With Josses Hill entered in the Scilly Isles over 2m 4f this weekend, do we think Henderson has had a look at Un De Sceaux and thought ‘**** that’?

With Josses Hill’s jumping leaving a lot to be desired thus far, with the horse looking far from the finished article in that regard, a quick fire Arkle could be something they want to avoid.

Could he go for the JLT?

The JLT has no doubt taken from the Arkle and RSA in recent years, but it could be one of the races of the week this year. Vautour, Ptit Zig, Valseur Lido, Apache Stronghold, Gilgamboa, Josses Hill, Smashing, if half of these line up we’ll have some race.

I hope not!! Am on Josses Hill big time at decent prices. With the way they are all running scared and heading for the JLT he only has one horse to beat and would surely place given the current line up. The JLT is looking like a cracker already, so would have many more decent horses to beat. Doesn’t make sense to run scared from one horse and try and take on at least half a dozen that could easily win the JLT.
I’m probably talking through my pocket but still think the JLT could become the harder race.

No. They’re going to Sandown to guarantee another run. The intention is still very much the Arkle, although if he hacks up here on the bridle….

JLT looks pretty competitive, in my opinion. In the Arkle, they think they’ve one horse to beat.

    Vibrato Valtat

‘s form was made to look very flimsy indeed today.

    Champagne West

didn’t get the chance to pay Ptig Zig a compliment.

Vibrato Valtat was rated 140 over hurdles. Way below the average for an Arkle winner. I’ll be looking for my ew pickings elsewhere.

I don’t fancy him either. He’s been running in small fields and the form looks nothing special. In his career he’s been beaten fav six times and beaten joint fav once. He is 0/3 at Cheltenham.

Best priced 14/1, as low as 10/1. Not for me I’m afraid.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Oh Dear, Josses Hill turned over at odds on today and Henderson had another odds on shot beaten earlier.

Un De Sceaux as short as 1/2 now and Josses out to 14/1.

Says it all that Vautour is 2nd favourite for this now!!

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

    Nicky Henderson seems optimistic still:-

Nicky Henderson said the two-mile chase was still on the cards.

"Barry is definitely not ruling out the Arkle and he’s got to ride him. He does believe in the horse.

"We had to race somewhere and he’ll be better with a right good gallop over two miles and then we can let him go.

"Barry said if he’d won by a neck he’d have been delighted and we’ve only been beaten a length.

"He’s learning. What happened at the ditch [when he took off too early] unsettled him and it took him three or four fences to recover."

I am sure those who waded in at 1/2 today will take great comfort from this

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

JH obviously has a jump in him, but he seems afraid of getting himself on the floor. If he were mine, the Festival is the last place he’d be going at this stage; it could damage his already fragile confidence beyond repair.

They ought to find a few races over easy, soft fences and teach him there’s nothing to fear. Festival next would be like sending a nervous learner driver into the Rome rush hour.

I think Nicky Henderson is trying to take a positive from today’s race that just simply isn’t there.

All this nonsense about being delighted had Josses Hill won by a neck is smoke and mirrors in my opinion.

The horse was 1/2 and getting 11 lb from the winner. He had to go out there and blitz that field to be a realistic Arkle contender.

Trying to keep tabs with Un De Sceaux at Cheltenham could be a recipe for disaster as you say Joe.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

There’s way too many imponderables regarding both ‘Un Des Sceaux’ and ‘Vatour’ for me to commit to either as serious Ante-Post players for the Arkle so I’ve gone elsewhere. The Mullins horses trade at silly odds for this 5/2 and 5/1 respectively when we really dont know which will turn up and having seen both this year there’s a black mark against both.My selections been called a few names but not by me,he’s a horse I’ve always had a soft spot for and even though he finishes 2nd more times than he wins I believe he is a horse who just needed time mentally for the penny to drop. This fellow is a proper 2 miler,he travels jumps and now can battle.Ladbrokes have taken my £100 e/w at 20/1 this morning for the Arkle, they will wish they haven’t come March! 8)
Oh yeh the horse is called

    Vibrato Valtat

    by the way.

Bring on my pacemaker ‘Un des Sceaux’ to set it up for us…Lovely! My lad will sprint away from the Irish Wonder horse Oh Yeh!TAPK knows! 8)

The way they are falling like flies, this could be a small and uncompetitive affair. Decent bet win or lose Gord, I don’t really fancy him but the opposition is thin on the ground. Could be a nice bit of foresight there. Good luck with him.

TAPK still reigns – that’s a great bet. I think Warwick’s the trickiest track in the country for novice chasers. The fact that VV was far from perfect at a few and still won with his head in his chest says an awful lot. He’ll give the Irish horse a race for sure. Good luck, my friend.

Been doing a bit of study on the Arkle market this morning, and there’s huge value in the place book.

The over-round for the place book on the top 15 horses in the betting on Oddschecker (right down to Sizing Granite at 40/1) is almost exactly 300%.

However, there a number of horses who are unlikely to run, on the back of yesterday’s events.

Take out Vautour (surely goes JLT now), Gilgamboa (likewise), Ptit Zig, Apache Stronghold and one of Court Minstrel and Gitane Du Berlais and the place book stands at 213.5%. I think I’ve probably taken an optimistic view on the number of runners, and have no idea if the likes of Grumeti and Sizing Granite will run.

So what is going to run? Clarcam will probably go here regardless of yesterday’s thrashing as he looks best suited to this trip and and the Grand Annual won’t appeal off 156. Josses Hill another who should run, as will Vibratot Valtat and Sgt Reckless.

It’s the latter two who appeal each-way at 20/1 and 25/1 respectively.

Very happy with these after this weekend’s events. Vibrato Valtat looked good today and was more impressive than I hoped he’d be. Sgt Reckless still a good bet at 20/1 imo.

As others have said Un De Sceaux looks a star and the rest are running for second if he stands up, but a place from either of these two will do for me.

Knocking bet, TAPK. I was suitably impressed with him yesterday, but do you honestly believe he will even get UDS off the bridle? Vibrato Valtat was rated 21lbs interior to UDS over timber – but you would be happy if you’re holding a tasty ew voucher, as they’ll probably be no more than 7 runners in the Arkle.

Not wanting to piss on your chips but VV is fruitless from 3 trips to Prestbury. Best of luck with the bet though.
