It’s not a trick question is it ?

E.g. an Irish horse already raced in Ireland and who’s first race in the UK was the Coventry.
Did Dante race before he won the Coventry?
March 18, 2014 at 08:56 #472370Not a trick question. I found the answer in an old Timeform book.
Dante had won before the Coventry in 1944, yes.
March 18, 2014 at 16:45 #472428I see that this has many of you stumped. Surely someone must have a copy of Racehorses of 1983 in their collection?
March 18, 2014 at 16:54 #472429Am I missing something here? Hasn’t the answer already been given

Not the correct one. D’oh!
March 18, 2014 at 19:12 #472451My guess is Whip it Quick.
March 18, 2014 at 19:45 #472461Is it Pretty Polly’s younger brother, Admiral Hawke?

1983 was Chief Singer. We’ve already come up with that one.
I still say Rock Sand.

I still say Rock Sand.
The essay on Chief Singer reveals the answer to this question. And Rock Sand won the Coventry in 1902, the year before St Amant, so it couldn’t be him anyway!
March 19, 2014 at 10:25 #472520Damn, I have nearly all the ’80s but 1983!
March 20, 2014 at 17:17 #472699This question has been up for a week now and nobody has the correct answer.
According to the essay on Chief Singer in
Racehorses of 1983
, the last debutant to win the Coventry before Ron Sheather’s strapping colt was Messmate, in 1956.
Here’s an easier one: name Henry Cecil’s "Magnificent Seven" from Royal Ascot in 1987… in the correct order.

There is a sire running in the UK this weekend. What is his name?
March 22, 2014 at 18:45 #472915Is it Premio Loco? Did he have a spell at stud, was gelded and put back into training?

Good answer, albeit incorrect.
March 23, 2014 at 21:00 #473041In an unfortunate turn of events, the horse in question became the first to join the dreaded "Memorials" page whilst being the subject of this thread
