Back to the weather . . . it rained heavily here on Friday afternoon/evening and constantly tipping it down all day today. I’m a stone’s throw from the track.
Think it would be soft by the end of today – the Mildmay course drains pretty quickly. The National course is another matter though.
Hope that helps.March 29, 2008 at 23:25 #154512Aintree going remains unchanged despite rain
SHOWERY rain fell at Aintree on Saturday morning, but the ground was unchanged as officials at the course prepared for the 2008 John Smith’s Grand National meeting that starts onThursday.
Clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch was expecting more rain overnight into this morning, with perhaps another 3-4mm falling on Monday and Tuesday, but the weather forecast then indicates a warmer spell leading up to the fixtures opening card.
Tulloch said on Saturday afternoon: "We had a 9mm in total on Friday, plus a little more in the form of showers this morning, and the ground on the National course remains good to soft, soft in places.
"On the Mildmay course it’s good to soft, good in places, and the forecast is for rising temperatures as the week progresses."
Tulloch added: "We’re told that we might get 3-4mm of rain on Monday and Tuesday, but that any rain is likely to be showery, rather than in prolonged bands over the next couple of days, before the weather turns brighter and warmer by midweek."
March 30, 2008 at 21:34 #154644Well it rained virtually all day Saturday, but today has been sunny with a freshening wind.
Anyway I remember 1990 – on the Monday it rained, Tuesday it snowed – yet by Saturday it was Fast ground – hence they set the track record. I reckon the ground will be Soft Good in places.
As for the scouse girls – look but don’t talk to them. And I’m from up the locality!!March 31, 2008 at 10:15 #154685Well having backed Chelsea Harbour at 20/1 and Mr Pointment at ethe same odds I think after hearing that the ground is likely to be perefct I have to hope thee former goes on good ground

Mr Pointment will have to break all sorts of records to win

My biggest bet was Butler’s Cabin months ago but he’s mad and likely to fall asleep on the way to the start….Why AP want’s to ride him I have no idea and I don’t care if Jonjo thinks he’s back to his best or not
……I’m stuffed
March 31, 2008 at 10:40 #154690A few mm of rain tonight, then dry through much of tomorrow, Weds & Thurs – although a few spots of light rain or drizzle may turn up later tomorrow night / Weds morning. Some light rain moving down from the north-west later on Friday morning or in the afternoon. A few showers possible Friday night into Saturday.
It should feel quite pleasant on Thursday afternoon, temperatures around 13C, the mid-50’s F and with mainly light winds. A fresher breeze on Friday, just taking the edge off the temperatures and for Saturday, unfortunately, a noticeably colder day – albeit with some sunshine – goosebumps aplenty on that bare scouse flesh!

March 31, 2008 at 15:42 #154754Re: Philson Run – the going last year wasn’t exactly bottomless, but he still seemed to act on it alright. Conversely, it wasn’t so easy that those favouring a sounder surface such as McKelvey were exactly put out, either.
Could it simply have been that the lush, ancient turf – through accident or design – had been cultivated in such a way as to produce an ultra-fair surface that genuinely didn’t appear to hinder horses of any ground persuasion? If so, may the same be attainable this year?
I genuinely don’t know the answer to that, btw.

I doubt that any more – it rained all night – and heavy!!
April 1, 2008 at 12:03 #154901No change from the forecast that I posted on this thread yesterday.
Some rain at Aintree between now and Saturday but amounts will be small.
Saturday itself looks set to be dry with spells of sunshine but a cold & blustery north to north-west wind. Good drying conditions during the day itself but will this serve to make the ground tacky? Looks like Liverpool’s finest bare-armed young ladies might need the wintergreen this year – or an extra Bacardi Breezer or 2 to numb the pain.
April 3, 2008 at 09:30 #155345Look back on this thread for future reference lads- they watered the Mildmay course yesterday and are considering watering the National course later today.
