Is this a request for a (VERY) late supplementary entry?
Wasn’t intended that way at all to be honest
August 20, 2023 at 20:02 #1660300I think there should be a revote minus ‘The Whip’.
August 20, 2023 at 21:27 #1660305“The Whip” fighting back with over 40% of the popular vote now – I am glad to see that votes are still coming in along with further ongoing comment on the subject.
There’s life in this thread and poll yet, I think.

August 21, 2023 at 13:13 #1660331Just read Lydia Hislop’s article about the whip debate on the “Sporting Life” site. She mentions how she recently attended a race meeting in Sweden, where the whip is banned. Hislop observed:
“The races themselves were strangely sterile, with the running order scarcely changing from start to finish unless a rival weakened. Whether this was primarily due to the depth of surface, the quality of horses or the absence of a tool for encouragement, it’s hard to say…More than once, however, I was left with the impression that a horse produced to challenge did not find as much as I expected.”
I believe this is what racing will be like if the whip or whatever you want to call it is banned. Yes, the animal rights crowd will be pleased for a few seconds before they find something else to be outraged about and racing might win a few brownie points from the media. But all we will be left with is a poor quality spectacle that is not really racing.
That is assuming anyone still wants to bet on racing after the affordability checks become law!
September 14, 2023 at 15:18 #1662939I don’t want to rush you on this Ian, but the whipmaster is waiting to run in the jump jockeys derby at Epsom in ten mins or so and wonders what you’ve come up with….
