Telling the BHA how to do their job is a recurring theme both here and elsewhere.

And surely rightly so on many occasions.

Here’s a one-off chance for TRF (or the closest TRF can come to a consensus) to point the way forward on a topical issue.

What, if anything else, should “The Whip be called?

    Here are the runners –

    “The Whip” (no change)

    “The Collector”

    “The Magic Wand”

    “The Motivator”

    “The Cush”

    “The Communicator”

    “The Prompt”

I’ve decided to get this up and running now, as the functionality gives scope to add further options if required (proposer and seconder please).

    Let the voting commence!

It should be noted that you may struggle to get equestrians (people who ride/ work with horses) to call the whip something else.

The only one that might work is to call it a “stick”. As it’s regularly called that already. But then I am not sure that word helps with the perception issue.

You’ve misssed one off your list.
Roger Moore and Tony Curtis would not be impressed.

Madam Cushlash doesn’t sound right to me!

If memory serves one of the race-callers (Stewart Machin?) has on occasions used ‘The Persuader’ in commentary

    purwell nailed it

I voted for “the whip” it is what it is although not as brutal as before but that’s what I call it and will always call it. Even if it gets changed I’m still calling it the whip.

    “Just sort it fella”

I have done – and ZERO votes for it so far!

The Persuaders, sensational theme tune from my all-time favourite composer, the actual Series, though?

Early doors and it’s The Whip and The Cush disputing the lead – none of the outcomes seems to have had a reminder as yet!

Pro-cush seems to be what some commentators are settling on.

Touching on Archipenko’s point about how difficult it will be to get people to change from “whip” or “stick”, how about “guide”? This still works in combination with stick, and guide stick doesn’t sound as harsh as stick by itself.

It also emphasises the control elements as well as the encouragement ones.

I think it was Aussie Jim McGrath who started using “the persuader” in his commentaries on the Beeb.

The SSR presenter at Bangor has just used “the pro kush”.

Persuader for me all day long.

    “how about “guide”?”

And where was this suggestion yesterday?

    Or the day before?

As in before the poll was started!

    Added – grumpily!

Jason Weaver has just referred to it as the shillelagh.

The more I know the less I understand.

Mr Grumpy Davies, “guide” was only PROMPTed (pun intended) by posts made today! :-)

Interesting to see “persuader” doing well in the poll.
