Whilst I’m in the mood for a Story I’ll share this one from today.
I’ve been meaning to take my youngest Daughter (4yo) Swimming for sometime now but have always thought better of it.Anyway I popped down to the local Decathlon sports shop last weekend for our gear,Little un got a Sports bag full of Swimsuit,Goggles,Cap and towel, sorted! I plumped for a pair of Swimming trunks that said ‘Large’ on them, just a plain Blue pair,my Leopard Skin Speedoes got ripped off me on a beach in Kefalonia by a freak……..Wave!! Anyway we get to our local pool through 3 inches of snow and voila we’re the only ones there.I get little un sorted for her first venture into a Public Pool and she takes to it like a duck to Water,my experience was not so pleasurable, these trunks I’ve brought are seriously too small, now I’m no Errol flynn but I’m packin a lunch box with more than just a Shrimp Salad so in I plop. One hour later we’ve still got the pool to ourselves and I’m thinkin Thank **** for that as I’ve shrivelled like a Mealworm in a Walnut Tree.We decide to get out and before we reach the steps I notice a dozen or so Women standing by my exit point, its only time for the young Learners lesson and before they make their way to the viewing area they obviously wanted a view at me.Every bloke knows that as soon as you exit a pool your trunks cling round your Schlong like clingfilm round a party sausage and mine being 2 sizes too small made me look like I was halfway through a Gender swap as I passed 24 eyes all staring at my weener I thought I’ll laugh at myself even more and stood there and just came out with……….’You’re thinkin Daniel Craig Gals I know’……..’Daniella’ quipped some smart ass!!

I see Ladbrokes have reacted yet again to market forces surrounding my ‘Supreme’ horse

    My Tent or Yours

albeit about as quick as Razor Ruddock shaving his chinny chin chins! They now go 12/1 about what will be 6/1 on the day so again there’s e/w value in the price and I can see him putting it down to his owners new purchase ‘Jezki’.(7/2fav). Its a race I love and always have and it looks like being a cracking start to the festival if these pair turn up!

A race and a horse I’ve been waiting for for a wee while on Saturday Gord, with Tatenen pencilled in for a crack at a third consecutive win in the 2 and a half miler round Ascot. He seems to have relished the race(clearly) for the last couple of years, and is only up a pound from last years’ win. With regards to shear spectacle there may be bigger fish to fry on Saturday, but from a punting point of view this is one I’ve been after for a while. Now I’m just hoping the card gets the green light as the vibes haven’t been too positive :?

Let’s hope it runs better than Dursey Sound,

    if

, it runs in The Supreme.

Boz those cynics amongst us that suggest the game is crooked will hit you with

    Tatenen

as their biggest weapon for proving just that. This French import came over with a bit of a reputation to match his looks some 6 yrs ago now,so much so that he went off the Fav for the Arkle only to fall at the 3rd.I remember it vividly as I was all over ‘Forpadydeplasterer’ at 20’s! From that point on you can safely say he was a dissapointing horse.Richard Rowe took charge and gets 3 runs into him in the space of several weeks and then enters him in this very race you mention.By now those heady numbers of 150/155 ratings have taken an almighty tumble and he gets in off 137 and duly bolts in,excuses can be made but at the end of the day he was what you would describe as a very well handicapped horse and proved the ability was there so long as his mark was!! ‘Incredibly’ though he has another 3 runs and dissapoints again! But he had been raised back to 150.A year passes and miraculously ‘Tatenen’ is back down to 143 he again gets entered for the very same race, repeats the tactics and scrapes home by the skin of his teeth,I had backed him at 16/1 so my voice was hoarse but he did the job.Of course the handicapper looks again and guess what….Back to 150,ah but hold on another 3 runs down the field and de de de le de de der! He’s back down to 144 a mere 1lb up from winning last years race for the 2nd time like you say! Can he do it again on Saturday and throw fire on the flames of those cynics who think the game is twisted? Of course he can as thats what the game is all about! These horses who have the ability to do something under a given set of circumstances can certainly repeat their feats under the same set of circumstances given the opportunity, thats a diplomatic way of putting it! Good Luck Boz,I hope he wins too!

GDC,I used to worry about getting a run in around mid February before my Cheltenham horses turn up for the festival,it doesn’t bother me in the slightest these days as I know horses can be brought to Peak fitness at home, obviously the likes of Jon-Jo and Nicky Henderson along with Team Pipe have the facilities to do it.I dont know how Jessie Harrington will prepare ‘your’

    Jezki

but as I’ve said before there’s no doubt he showed the difference between a proper Grade 1 horse and those who are not the way he left them like only a Grade 1 horse can! I’m obviously wrong in saying he’s ‘Nothin special’ but I wouldn’t swap a home trained Mcmanus ‘Supreme’ horse for him! Game on there mate!

I stand to be corrected but I believe 21 of last years Festival winners had a ‘prep run’, still a big negative for me if they don’t which is why I’m glad they’ve decided to go straight to Chelts with Jezki as my colours are firmly nailed to the MTOY mast!

    Darren the horse was called

    Deauville

,I’m sure the race was called the ‘Centenary Cup’ it was in the late 90’s around February time,I remember the fav was called ‘Privelige’ and was owned by Ivan Allen. There were 70,000 racegoers there that day and the atmosphere was phenomenal, myself and a fellow Knight were invited by the late Royal Hong Kong Jockey club to attend after a fair bit of form study and a 13 hour flight into ‘Kaitak’ an Airport that you actually fly through the tower blocks to land which was an experience in itself,we booked into the Shangri la hotel on Kowloon, incredibly our TV set in the Hotel suite showed all the Horseracing and form for that days runners,it also showed the warm up trials of all runners as they have to do what looks like a pre-race gallop, very strange but fascinating.Having seen both ‘Privelige’ the 4/5fav do his work from the comfort of my sofa, who looked very stiff and choppy actioned I watched

    Deauville

4/1,absolutely breeze round,we gathered our Hong Kong dollars jumped on the Train and set off for the new Territorys and Sha Tin Racecourse,’Happy Valley’ is the course in the heart of Hong Kong whereas Sha Tins nearer bloody China. To cut a long story short ‘Deauville’ did the business.
Las Vegas is also a must see venue, its one of those places that is very difficult to explain if you have never been, its a Surreal town in the middle of the Desert, all Glitz and glam and the Casinos are the size of football pitches, its a Gamblers paradise.
Myself and again a fellow Knight had landed a fair touch on a horse at the Cheltenham festival,(Arcalis at 25/1) for the ‘Supreme’ and off we went,we booked into the ‘Michael Jackson’ suite at £5000 a night in the ‘Venetian Hotel’and stayed in there for a whole one night! We downgraded the following day.We then jumped on a Plane and flew out to the Grand Canyon, jumped on a Helicopter and listened to Space Oddysey through our headphones as we dropped over the edge and into oblivion. That night I tried my hand at several Card games and lost £200.Being the ‘ManinBlack’ a Stranglers thing Darren I put a £100 chip on Black and won half of it back,Crazy crazy experience but when you live hard you play hard mate!! Plenty more stories Darren, you only have to ask!
Tell me about something Wild you’ve done yourself mate,I’m guessing you are in your 20’s so surprise me!

Yes GDC I have studied the race many times and I’ll tell you now the Nicholls youngster wont be winning (‘Ulck du Lin’) 10/1 fav. ‘Kid Cassidy’ is still the Dark horse of the race and at 14/1 I wouldn’t put anyone off, particularly with the Henderson factor to consider, which brings me onto the horse and possibly the only well handicapped horse of the race and thats the rejuvenated

    Petit Robin

at 20/1……….Enough said on that for now though! 8)

He’d be 30 this year if his name is anything to go by! Arcalis (or ‘racialist’ according to auto correct!) brings back memories, HJ was such a revered trainer, always got one ready for the big occasion, never quite won the big one though Tidal Bay may win in his honour (if a bit tarnished).

    Both

    Tidal Bay

    and

    Inglis Drever

    did the business for Howard,Rich.

ID sure did but TB was a bit of a monkey despite him oozing class…Nicholls has rejuvenated him this season though and he’s my bet for the Gold Cup…Wylie deserves it IMO!

Had an interesting day trying to get a price for Pearl Swan to win Betfair and Champion Hurdle, now bear in mind he is 10s and 50s!!!

The first bookie offered 100s, then 66s and generally 100s all round and as always win only, now I was stunned to be offered 250s and a maximum of 20 ew from laddies, I’ve never been offered ew ante post for a double so have jumped in just in case :-)
