I thought this site made for amusing reading:

Granted, things have come off for him today, but he’s still put up 5/2 and 11/4 chances each-way, picked two (including the second favourite) in an eight-runner race and selected five of six favourites.

His message lasted 4 minutes 05 seconds – if such an ‘insight’ is worth over £6 every day then we really are in trouble.

We don’t know if it’s true in this case but many of these telephone tipster ads are on a revenue-share basis these days – ie the newspaper gets XXp per call so gives the advertising space as their side of the deal
You’ll notice that the trade papers put them in where there are awkward gaps in the form etc and often repeat the same ads in an issue.
At least one mainstream national paper has a revenue share system for their tipster ads.

On another note, there is no hard and fast rule to say that a tipster couldn’t start a tipping line and, on day one before it has any callers to upset/complain, tip every horse in every race at a particular meeting and then run an advert boasting "5,900-1 stunner – we gave ALL SEVEN winners at Course X on March 5, 2009".
This would technically be true and would get you a rap over the knuckles at the very worst from the Advertising Standards Authority.

This subject has been debated on this site on a number of occasions.

For the record one has to register a name with the Racing Post.

So lets call the name Win win win.

The R.P. provide a fax number and faxes on the proofing service cost £3.00each to send so Mirror Group Newspapers make a profit out of this as well.

‘Win win win’ could well select an odds on winner and then a week or so another odds on winner at the end of the trial period which is 1 month they can portray them selves as a service that provides very few selections but have shown a level stakes profit thats all one has to do to be able to claim ‘all selections proofed to the Racing Post’.

If Win win win failed to show a L.S.P. and even if every tip lost there is nothing to stop Win win win having another go by registering under a different name and having another go under Win,came 2nd ,win win win!

Once a service is excepted as a ‘proofed service’ there is no further requirement to fax any more selections.

It’s all about advertisng revenue that is why Brimadon used to be able to dictate to The Racing Post that the Saturday advertising they provided used to have to go opposite the Pricewise selections. For the record Brimadon do not class themselves as a tipping service and complaints against them with the A.S.A. were not normally upheld as they claimed they are providing a ‘system’ and not just a tipping service.

A full page 3 colour ad on a Saturday costs over 8k although there is a generous discount for a run of ads that they do not have to ammend.

Many ex jockeys have seen that setting up a tipping service as a legitimate way to make a living current trainers such as David Pipe make good money by providing a tipping service no one is forcing anyone to join.

Many ex jounalists such as Henry Rix, Mel Collier have also found that it pays better than sitting in Canary Wharf writing copy.

Yes I have had a tipping line and proud of it and made a l.s.p.

Dave opened today’s message (again approximately 4 minutes) with ‘in the first race at Sandown Marchand Dargent is stones well-in…and was the final leg of the Super7 last week, which I fortunately won’.

To be honest, Dave, I couldn’t give a monkey’s left nut.

He does say that he won’t put Marchand Dargent up as an account bet because it’s too short, but proceeds to recommend backing three horses at 11/8, 6/5 and even-money. For the second day running he has made six selections, four of them deemed worthy of the sainted ‘account bet’ tag.

Equitrack clearly has an inquisitive mind we saw that in the Elite Racing thread, nothing wrong with that.

If you read what I said earlier, carvillshill, you will notice that (for research purposes) I occasionally test certain tipsters’ claims. In previous years the results have been quite frightening, especially with regard to how certain lines advertise their supposed successes (one napped a 4/11 favourite who only just scraped home and promoted it as an 11/4 coup the next day).

With Dave Nevison being the subject of this thread I thought I would see how he operates and report back. I’m afraid I don’t want, or indeed need, to follow the thoughts of anyone but myself, but given the public interest in this particular ‘service’ I thought I’d see what’s what.

My comments in relation to his opening line for today’s message are more of a reflection of the fact that, as usual, Nevison is living on past glories and that what he achieved last week means absolutely nothing now. His advice was as follows (account bets in bold):

    2.10 Sandown Marchand Dargent

    2.45 Sandown Busy Isit

    3.20 Sandown Bannister Lane
    3.55 Sandown Impossible
    4.30 Sandown Impossible

    5.05 Sandown Cracboumwiz

    3.05 Leicester Come Out Fighting
    4.50 Leicester Ballyvodan

As for the Elite Racing Club thread, my responses had little to do with my inquisitive nature and everything to do with my severe dislike of their operation (based on experience, deduction and their general philosophy).
