2m4f is her bag and there is a G1 race for her at that trip at the festival and it is only against her sex, so why try for an outside chance of a place (at best) over a trip short of her best especially when the same connections already have a horse set out for the race.
The only downside I see is that she may have to face last year’s winner and/or Laurina but she would still have a better chance of beating them I think than BVD.
December 3, 2018 at 16:24 #1387930Nice performance from Buveur D’air there. Disappointed with Summerville Boy but hopefully improve for the run(will need too). After watching Apples Jade yesterday I’d like to see her take on BD at Cheltenham. She is getting better for me and more professional. I’d love them to go to the Champion Hurdle route and leave Samcro to tackle fences.
December 3, 2018 at 17:05 #1387933I suspect it’s far easier to say go for the Champion Hurdle with Apples Jade if you don’t actually own the horse. A no brainer for me to go for the Mares and although I agree with the majority regards Samcro not being a Champion Hurdler, it is possible we could be wrong and I can see exactly why they want to go for the race this season, as they don’t have another horse for it, while having multiple entries for the novice chases.
December 3, 2018 at 22:02 #1387963I totally get your point Yeats but not like they need the money and had plenty of winners at the Festival. Just think the Champion Hurdle would suit AJ over samcro. Suppose we would see a better samcro in a bigger field with race run at a faster pace.
December 4, 2018 at 01:23 #1387975I understand why people don’t believe Samcro is a Champion Hurdler in the making but I am not entirely sure what makes people think that AJ would be a better prospect, personally I would back him to beat AJ over both 2m and 2m4f as her front running style would be tailor made for him.
She hasn’t run over 2m since the 2016 Fighting Fifth and connections have never seemed interested in dropping her back to that trip even when for most of that time they didn’t even have a potential contender for a Champion Hurdle, in fact when the choice came they decided to go up to 3m instead.
If BVD turns up in March in the same form as he was Saturday then he simply becomes a triple champion but look at the bare form of his runs last year (you could argue it is nothing special) and some think he absolutely underperformed in the CH last year….a repeat of that run and I think that not only Samcro but more so Melon (who was only having his 7th run over hudles as a 6 yr old and is open to all sorts of improvement) could beat him.
December 4, 2018 at 09:31 #1387978I think for all the claims that AJ should be heading to the Champion, people need to remember that she performed close to this level this time last year, before falling off a cliff in the Spring. Elliot + Co are obviously keeping that in mind, and are keeping their targets sensible in the meantime. I hope they do give her a run at the Leopardstown and then we might know where we stand with her going forward. It wouldn’t be too late for them then to change their minds and go elsewhere come March.
