I dont think elliot is quite as poor with hurdlers as hes being made out, hes did better than ok in recent years with them, mick jazz, labaik, to name a couple, neither are superstars but hes got top notch results out of them

Still against samcro, but not for the reason that elliots training him.. thats always a positive for me

Not sure why theres this thing with elliot and mullins where ones better with hurdlers and the other with chasers, when in reality there top class in both aspects… equally

And why is davy russells booking a negative mark? Not quite sure i understand that angle, hes a better jockey over staying trips? Not true atall if thats what your saying…

I just want to see a big performance from Samcro, but I have little niggles of doubt over him.

For a bit of sport, I’ll go for Bleu Et Rouge at 150-1 ew.

I think Samcro will reverse places with Bedrock
Sharjah was beaten in 3rd in the same race as the above two and went on to win Morgiana Hurdle easily enough. I think Kennedy on Samcro perhaps underestimated Bedrock and may have been caught a little flat footed after seeing off Sharjah. The going is also different this time around and I’ve read the fractions were pretty hot which would of helped the closer.
If he goes down to Buveur D’air is it worth noting that Newcastle is not Cheltenham. The pace of these early season races is not Cheltenham pace either. I often look for a horse at Cheltenham that’s gets further than the distance running at of the race purely on the stamina required for the pace of the race and the stiff uphill finish. I think it’s still possible Samcro loses here and still goes to the Champion Hurdle.

Looking forward to seeing Summerville Boy here. No bet in the race as think Buveur D’air should beat them as the proven class horse but like last weekend nice to see top horses race against each other. Love NH!

Samcro is running so they know exactly where they stand with the current champion, Buveur D’Air. If he gets stuffed then I think they’ll switch to fences. Well Chief won an Arkle after one chase start so it’s not too late.
However, I think he’d go JLT, not Arkle.

Sending him to the Stayers would be a big mistake.

With the way a lot of Hendo’s horses have been needing their first run – I would be rather shocked if a race fit Samcro can’t beat BVD especially as the ground will have some cut in it, which I think is the bear minimum he needs.

Conversely the ground may not be soft enough for Summerville Boy and he will need to convince me that he can be a slick enough jumper at 2m championship pace before I will consider him a Champion Hurdle prospect.

Really poor turnout considering the scarcity of these top class 2 mile races.

    Pathetic, actually.

Bedrock is out and Samcro is already the same price as Buveur d’Air.

I think it is hard to split Buveur d’Air and Samcro. At the prices I’ve gone for an EW shot with Vision des Flos at 33/1. I think that is a nice price for a horse who in his last three starts over 2 miles has won a listed race with 34 lengts, finished second in a Grade 1 at Aintree behind Lalor and second in a Grade 1 at Punchestown behind Draconien, but in front of Mengli Kahn and Sjarhah. He had run over hurdles this season, finishing second between Wholestone and Unowhatimeanharry. That was over 2m4f and he was travelling very well, but lacked stamina.

If and it is a big if Buveir D’Air had a run he would be nailed on against these !!

Hendo’s horses have looked like they have needed their first run but he has a racecourse gallop.

I shan’t be having a bet in the race but Buveur D’Air is my selection and to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if he won it will!!

Bedrock missing this race is absolute agony for me (although I hadn’t got myself sorted in time to back him ante-post). Really felt his win over Samcro wasn’t a total fluke as he’d been hinting at a top-draw performance for years. I hope his new American owners re-consider the plans to race him abroad and have at least one crack at the 2 mile hurdle division. Will Bleu Et Rouge be a pacemaker for Buveur D’Air, might be worth a punt at 200/1 in case the tactics go wrong and he ends up lasting home. Seen it happen before on the flat once or twice.

After the first race that looks proper soft ground so there can be absolutely no excuses for Samcro as everything is in his favour, ground will also suit Summerville Boy and may not put as much emphasis on his jumping (not going to be travelling at championship pace in that ground).

Notable that BVD has had a wind operation and that will help in todays conditions but I still have it at the back of my mind that race fitness could be an issue, more so with the level of competition he faces today. He should be helped by having what looks to me a very decent pacemaker (who was second in last year’s Betfair Hurdle) that will hopefully ensure that we don’t get a silly buggers tactical 4F type race that leaves us with more questions than answers

I’ve backed Summerville Boy here at 11/2. Samcro has it to prove all of a sudden and Henderson’s aren’t exactly firing in.

Layed Samcro here, while he’s obviously top class I think the hype machine may have been cranked up a notch or two too far.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him finish 3rd here.

    Should be a cracker!
