Take 2
Entries out for this, and let’s just hope we get a race this year.
http://www.ayrgoldcup.co.uk/gold-cup-entries/
My early fancy is, as per, Justanotherbottle, and I’ll be very interested to see how he fares off of his new mark. I’ll definitely have an early go, but there’s the slight problem with him having options at York next week, as well as The Portland.
Very Early Shortlist
Justanotherbottle
Hey Jonesy
Ice Age
Growl
Teruntum Star
Bengali Boys
Brian The Snail
Tanasoq
Spanish City
Holmeswood
ShaheenI want to have an early go, but looks worth waiting on the weights, and a proper early Market.

August 15, 2018 at 14:48 #1363076Take 2 for me also Venture.
I’m getting treated to hospitality this year, so I really hope no mishaps this year. This will be my first visit to Ayr so I would love to get the winner.
I like Spring Loaded + Naadir but I will have to wait until Ripon to decide if ism going to bet Antepost.
August 15, 2018 at 14:59 #1363077One of my favourites Bob, and like you I’m going to wait until things are a little
clearer as to who is heading there. I’d be interested in Spring Loaded if he makes
the trip north. He was a bit unlucky in the Stewards cup, he finished very strongly
in 7th, just over 2L behind the winner, and was found lame behind after the race. He’s
on his highest rating (107) at the moment, but I think there’s more to come. I’ve had a
punt on him in the Great St Wilfred, if he does well there he will shorten in the market.
At this stage only the sponsor have priced it up and have him at 16s, but I’ll leave it at
this time as so much can go wrong and I’d need to be convinced D’Arcy has this as a target
for him. Lets hope the racing Gods don’t turn on the sprinklers again this year, an Ayr Gold
Cup at Haydock just isn’t an Ayr Gold Cup
August 15, 2018 at 15:09 #1363078I didn’t see your post buckers until after I had posted mine. We’re both like minded
with Spring Loaded. He’s still 14s with Paddy Power for the Great St Wilfred on Saturday,
I think that’s quite decent value. I’m not sure about the booking of Willie Carson, although
to be fair to him he has sat on him once, and won the race at Wolverhampton back in 2015.
If he does well on Saturday, and if Ryan Moore were to be back on him if he appears at
Ayr, he wouldn’t be far off favourite.August 16, 2018 at 01:21 #1363119Yeah Graham, so many “ifs and buts” at this stage, it seems sensible to leave for now.
August 18, 2018 at 15:51 #1363433Obviously a few positives and negatives after Ripon.
From my original shortlist, Ice Age looks very interesting now, and the fact you can get 33’s is very appealing, as is the 16’s for (shock horror) Growl. Growl will continue to have serious each way appeal.
Still looking forward to Justanotherbottle this week, but pushing him for my #1, after having a proper look at them the last few days, is Bengali Boys.
August 22, 2018 at 01:26 #1363688I can safely write off Shaheen from that early shortlist after his flop at Windsor, but in the opener at York today is Holmeswood, and very interested in how he fares.
Think he has a live chance today, and I’d love to see him score at York, so that he could sneak in here.
August 29, 2018 at 15:28 #1364918Holmeswood ran well, but not enough I’d say to sneak in here, and he’s maybe one for The Silver Cup.
Another couple to throw into the mix for me, are Get Knotted, and Major Jumbo, both ideal for this, and been in decent form this term.
For now though, Justanotherbottle remains my #1, but with that other potential engagement, my first play will be Bengali Boys. I’m not mad keen on 3yo’s for this, but I do like him, and Fahey has pulled it off before. Hoping for some rain the next few weeks.
Bengali Boys 40’s Each Way
September 2, 2018 at 11:39 #1368361NORMANDY BARRIEDE 33/1 only bet so far since won at Ascot last year felt a big prize in this horse could be here
September 17, 2018 at 13:53 #1375219George Bowen 25/1
Been aimed at this race and think the C & D will suit him. Biblical rain on Thursday has me a bit worried but such is life.
September 17, 2018 at 14:19 #1375220Son Of Rest has been a confirmed runner.
Technically 10Ib well in on his run yesterday, he’s now favourite.
Something about the horse for me though, the amount of times he’s been favourite, he’s only won 2 from 14….Will make the market for some bigger priced ones i suspect!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!September 18, 2018 at 00:09 #1375249Weather Watch for me this week, and hoping that Bengali Boy sneaks in, as I think that if the forecast is right, then it would be ideal for him.
The flipside of that, is that I’m not convinced it’ll suit Justanotherbottle. Still tempted though, if only for the fact that he’s 33’s, but he is very risky before Final Decs. No concerns with last run, or the 4lb rise from Goodwood.
Not really looking at anything else until those final decs, but Ice Age, Get Knotted, and Major Jumbo, are all still high on the list.
September 18, 2018 at 17:50 #1375297Had a quick look Bobby and at first glance I like G FORCE 25/1 fourth in the race two years ago and BARON BOLT who I think looks made for this at 33/1 !!
If Al Qahwa gets in he shall be backed too but I doubt he will get in and may be the Silver Cup is the one for himSeptember 18, 2018 at 23:11 #1375305Second bullet added, couldn’t resist the price.
Tommy Taylor 33/1
Listed winner last season and now runs here off 97. Second first run of his life on heavy so at least coped with it and won on GS. Prominent run style suits this race also.
Can’t have Son Of Rest, wants a fast stiff 5F on soft I think not a heavy ground 6F.
September 20, 2018 at 17:49 #1375409Having seen the racing today it looks like you may need a middle draw unless they chew it up that much over the next two days but my two are both drawn high which may not be good so have added another couple in the form of GET KNOTTED at 20/1 drawn sixteen and gets seven furlongs which in this weather could be a good thing. And SUMMERGHAND at 33/1 drawn 11 which I think is bang on where you want to be!!
Good Luck
September 20, 2018 at 18:18 #1375413I like Get Knotted as well Raymo, looks too big a price, but I can’t bet em all.
Took the 33’s for Justanotherbottle last night, but win only, as waiting on the place concessions for the each way.
With Bengali Boys balloted out, in a race like this, definitely adding another couple.
I had a long long look at Ice Age last night as well. Ran very well at The Curragh last week, and having bet him, I was cursing the draw, as I think he’d have won if on the other side. Missed the 33’s, but took the 25’s to seven places.
I’m sorely tempted to back Growl to Cover stakes, should he win, and I’ll watch the market, but small go on the stablemate of Ice Age, Goring, for now. Took 40’s ew seven places, but will hopefully top up at much better odds. Ran well in The Bronze Cup two years ago, and I think he’s a better horse now.
Justanotherbottle the main hope though, and I’ve had a decent go on him, and will definitely cover him at those seven places as well.
Justanotherbottle 33’s Win
Ice Age 25’s EW 7 Places
Goring 40’s EW 7 PlacesSeptember 21, 2018 at 15:44 #1375480I am still getting over the disappointment of Spring Loaded not running here, but I did bet one on Monday and that’s Naadir at 33-1 ew but that is only with 4 places. I will bet one more tomorrow
