Statistically, the winner of the Big One will come from either the Lexus or King George. It’s also very likely that it isn’t a horse that has been beaten in the race before. The one I’m interested in is Carlingford Lough. A fair comeback run last week, finishing 5th. He would have been a lot closer without been hampered by On His Own at the last. Big price currently, and if he contests the Irish Hennessy and runs well, I’d be even more confident.
Dynaste would be of interest too should the Pipes commit. Imperial Commander won the Ryanair the year before, and the way he plugged on at Kempton surely bodes well.
January 5, 2015 at 10:31 #500444Really like Carlingford Lough as well. Held off betting him, and missed the really big prices, but got a few quid on him anyway……..at much reduced odds
January 5, 2015 at 23:56 #500522I’m in for a great payout if Silviniaco Conti wins after taking 20s on him winning the King George & Gold Cup.
Straight after the King George I took 33/1 each-way about Dynaste.
I’m looking for one more bet in the race before the day and it’s between: Many Clouds (16/1), Lord Windemere (16/1) and Smad Place (25/1).
My thinking is that if either Many Clouds or Smad Place put in a good performance in their trials that the prices will collapse. Both Sherwood and King are quietly hopeful that their horses are in with a shout. I worry about good ground for Many Clouds and plainly whether Smad Place is good enough. Lord Windemere seems a better horse this time around than last by this stage of the season and comes alive in the spring so a saver at 16s might not be the worst bet in the world.
January 13, 2015 at 17:44 #501414It’s too early to write off Bob’s Worth. If you watch a rerun of last years Gold Cup you will see he was within half a length of the leader at the final fence and was only beaten 4 lengths at the finish. Last season he ran a stinker on his reappearance and followed up with a fine victory in typical style in his next race. He was a dissapointment in his opening race this season but was not beaten far at the finish. I hope he has his next run in the Gold Cup, a repetition of his second outing last season would be good enough to beat this field. 16/1 or better are very attractive odds as is the 16/1 about Holywell. These are my two against the field.
January 22, 2015 at 18:08 #502474Djakadam now looks like a live outsider; carrying top=weight in the Thyestes is a serious challenge, and he’s young and improving. Heard him quoted at 20-1 immediately after the race, can’t see that that lasting long

The 20/1 is gone now, generally 16/1 and 14/1 with a few firms.
I have Djakadam in my Ten To Follow as a dark horse for The Gold Cup and he was 33/1 for the race at one stage. Impressive as he was today, it’s a big ask to see him take the Gold Cup this year. He still needs to find more and he fell at the Festival last year. Long Run won aged 6 in 2011 but you have to go right back to Mill House in 1963 to find another winner as young as that.
The same price or shorter in the betting than the last two winners of the race is a bit tight in my opinion. Maybe next season will be a better opportunity for Djakadam, with some of the top chasers getting on a bit now and him having youth on his side.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 23, 2015 at 00:51 #502498Didn’t look a particularly good renewal and conditions were poor.
He’ll need to come in on the second lap to win a Gold Cup, i reckon
January 24, 2015 at 13:37 #502724I was all over
Smad Place
for the Hennessey but it would appear Alan King ran him short of full fitness.Today he is weighted to beat his Newbury conqueror
Mamy Clouds
but I hope the Sherwood horse confirms the form as the Gold cup closes in as
Holywell
has solid form with him and ‘Many Clouds’ has the looks and profile of a Gold cup sort…Sorry but I cant see the Greys ‘Dynaste’ and ‘Smad Place’ beating Mr Hemmings big fine chaser….9/2 on the machine is too big.
Interesting comments from
Smad Place
Owner there blaming her Husband for runing the horse short in the Hennessey…..Apologies to the Trainer who should know best.
January 24, 2015 at 14:07 #502731Game over, folks. Grab the 10s about Many Clouds because he’ll win the Gold Cup

Joe you are beginning to sound like Ginge…..You cant back everything. He’s 12’s on the machine….Still too big now when you look at the form figures.
January 24, 2015 at 14:57 #502741Ha! I’ll end up backing everything. Took 33s about him this morning winning today and at Cheltenham, but really surprised to see such big prices still available after that. Jumped, stayed, battled, followed up a fine Hennessy performance, and really believe now he’ll be very hard to beat.
Can only imagine his smattering of form on good ground hasn’t been great and that’s keeping his price up. The 10s is with Paddy NRNB.
Am still happy to have BW and Road to Riches onside, but I’ll be selling some of those back on the day. Many Clouds is wonderful value as long as that 10s lasts and I won’t be selling any of him except in running at 1.01!
January 24, 2015 at 14:58 #502742Good luck Joe, with your 33’s double

I doubt that was Dynaste’s best form today. The horse just isn’t a Gold Cup animal and perhaps the stable will accept that and get on with training him for the Ryanair.
Many Clouds is clearly going places and he appeals to me more than Bobs Worth or Lord Windermere. I’m not sure he’ll be quite good enough to lift the Gold Cup though.
He’s 12/1 with Hills as I write. 8/1 in other places looks skinny to my eyes.

Not knowing how he’ll come out of this race (injury-free, hopefully), I prefer the NRNB at 10s. He’s building a perfect profile for one of the old style GC winners. A solid improver who jumps and stays, has class, a fine Hennessy win behind him, and has probably won with a bit in hand today.
January 25, 2015 at 07:00 #502831Many Clouds has a huge chance against a lot of "decent" but nothing better horses and a favourite who has failed to win the race twice when fancied and doesn’t really get up the hill.
I’ve backed him at 10/1.
Young horse, second season chaser, improving everything in his favour. Different horse this year. He’ll start easily a single figure price at Cheltenham and there is nothing at all to be scared of.
January 25, 2015 at 09:57 #502846Steeplechasing, I am very jealous of that 33-1. I am not sure why I didn’t do the same, before the race i mopped up plenty of 16-1 for the GC.
I usually nip on a few of these doubles but slipped my mind this year. Annoyingly was convinced 4-1 was far to big yesterday yet didn’t bet. Had a mare.
Conti is too short for me.It makes the GC a race to go at. A few weeks ago it was even better, the field was largely 16-1 bar from Conti and R2R.
Go on the clouds.
