One minute before the off and ginger is spotted spitting into the open air to see the strength of the wind

“Hold on a moment” he shouts to starter

“If my calculations are correct, which they always are, the wind direction is a tail wind at just over 0.8 miles per furlong, which will die out to zero wind just past the bushes

Good to go chief. Sorry for the slight delay but we need precision at this late stage”

    “I’d add Night Raider though”

Having watched the footage of him absolutely cantering all over 113 rated group 2 winner flight plan at the newmarket gallops he has been added to the shortlist

“So prominent runners can have a big disadvantage with a strong headwind; as well as the opposite.”

Last years craven meeting iirc there was a strong headwind and the pace collapsed in most races

This years meeting there was a medium tailwind and the pace held up in every race

It was probably more than a “medium tailwind” at this year’s Newmarket Craven meeting, FF.

    Newmarket Wind Power

What I meant by “as well as the opposite” is:
Prominent runners are at a disadvantage with a strong headwind AND Prominent runners are at an advantage with a strong tailwind. :good:

I know I was agreeing with you and using the last 2 years craven meeting as an example

Gingertipster, I’ve really got to cover myself now, and I’ve taken two horses you’re keen on. Both at 16-1, Night Raider and Ghostwriter

I’m just hoping that it’s misplaced nerves though

I would definitely be in The Ghostwriter camp, and I’ve bet him 16-1 each way

Only in there in case something goes wrong with City Of Try this week is my take on it.

Why have oddschecker still got Henry Adams in the market, with the charges in full flow you’d think they might be able to provide an up to date services

If the LongFellow was an intended runner on Saturday he would not be available @ 55 on the machine. As Mike rightly says, in all probability he’s only in there in case something happens to City Of Troy between now and final declaration time.

What price would Henry be NRNB if the NRNB did not include a R4 deduction? ie If HL ran and COT didn’t…
    He’d probably be disputing favouritism.

    He’d be 2/1 clear fav I’d imagine

Really think he could be a proper miler

With how poor the mile division is away from big rock on soft ground these 3yos have very good chances of winning races like the Sussex stakes later in the year

He’s definitely going in my 10 to follow

Rosallion is generally 4/1 with bookmakers and 8.4 betfair.
    Seems a big difference.
Is something wrong with the horse?

Or is something wrong with the greedy bookmakers offering awful prices?

Newmarket is a cashless venue so you will need your bank card with you for buying your tickets and in all the bars and restaurants on the course but not for betting on the Tote and with the bookies they all take cash.

If you are hoping to get into the Premier Enclosure to buy a ticket on the day I would suggest you get there early, gates open 2 hours before the 1st race and there are 9 races on Saturday. The Premier (Members) Enclosure sell out very quickly on 2000 Guineas day but you should be okay for the Grandstand/Paddock although it’s not worth chancing.

    Have a brilliant day…Jac :rose:
