Meehan statesd today that if the ground is too firm, then delegator may not run.

Wasn’t the ground firm at Newmarket when the Craven was run ? Maybe Mr. Meehan is becoming less confident about Delegator’s chances as the big day ( and Rip Van Winkle ) approaches.

All he’s doing is sending out jungle drum messages to the clerk of the course. Rain forecast so it shouldn’t be an issue anyway.

And now Rip Van Winkle faces a nervous few days after suffering a bruised foot!

And now Ladbrokes have cut his price from 5/1 to 4/1.

Must be a bloody small bruise

He won’t handle the dip at newmarket. He will fall into it and change his lead at least twice before he is finished since he will be off balance.Go back and watch him if you don’t believe me.

If you read back my posts that’s the very reason I backed him Andy.
I would expect him to be a much stronger and better balanced horse than the gangly 2yo you are talking about.

I think you’ve got Cityscape mixed up with Jukebox Jury possibly OTS. Cityscape is brown with a big white face.

Well, you got the white face right.

You are both wrong, he is not grey or brown. I thought he was one of the easiest horses to identify but apparently not.

He’s a chestnut. Come on you ginger beauty!

    Where was the 40/1 Delegator?
Wow what a price, missed that one. Did take the 6’s immediately after the Craven, would not take as short as 4/1 now though.
Do have over 40/1 about Cityscape though. Still value at 20’s.
Did have 18/1 Evasive but got out of most of that one when he began to drift on the exchanges (unfortunately).
Think both the AOB horses have their chance (obviously), but although they both have a better chance than Cityscape, both look overbet. Especially considering the current form of Ballydoyle horses.
Arazan is the other "outsider" worth considering.

    From the Racehorse.com today

Michael Prosser, Director of Racing at Newmarket Racecourses, is planning to irrigate the course ahead of The stanjames.com Guineas Festival.

The ground remains good-to-firm after rain yesterday but today has been dry so far and Prosser is now preparing to irrigate to maintain the status quo.

Speaking at 4pm, he said: “We had approximately four millimetres of rainfall on Monday but thus far on Tuesday we haven’t received the expected showers.

“The remainder of the week promises to be largely dry with even the anticipated rainfall on Thursday looking to only be light in nature.

“With this in mind, we will look to irrigate the course on Wednesday and also, potentially, on Friday with a view to producing a decent fast surface for The stanjames.com Guineas Festival. Currently, the ground remains good-to-firm.”

Brown/Chestnut its all the same to me.

Delegator was actually 40-1 with quite a few firms Ginge, as I remember, and think he may also have been available at 50-1 with a few firms when I first looked at him. I backed delegator and Cityscape on the same day as soon as they became positives on the markets, however by the time I backed Delegator only VC were still 40s, almost everyone else had gone 33s or 25s.

I’m not 100% certain, after watching the Greenham that Cityscape has the turn of foot to win this but he likes gd-fm and if they go a decent pace, I think he’ll go very well. Long term however I’d like to see them perhaps having a stab at the eclipse with him. The 1m2f division looked pretty poor last year IMO and so this year it looks abissmal in terms of the returning horses, I’d fancy a 3yo to shake things up, and perhaps Cityscape could be one to do so, Crowded House, Shaweel, Rip Van Winkle and Delegator would also look like decent ones for a try at 1m2f too. Will be interesting to see how they are all campaigned.

The more I look at this race the more I think it looks like a great race for Mastercraftsman. The 12’s and 5’s ive got look nice I must say…..

Delegator was great in the Craven but with Meehan negative over the ground and the fact that he seems to want to be produced late he’s a poor favourite for me. If he has to be produced late Jamie will have him behind 19 or so runners. This is Jamie Spencer coming through a pack of horses from last to first and whilst I respect Jamie’s riding ability I cant see this happening.

The Dewhurst is a strong piece of form. It was a big field, similar to whats expected on Saturday, and with that in mind Intense Focus and Lord Shanakill have to come into play. I cant help but think Finjann is a sprinter!

If we think Intense Focus has a chance on that form then thats yet another plus point for Mastercraftsman. He’s beaten Intense Focus THREE times!

Rip Van Winkle and Evasive both have had scares in the last fortnight or so. We dont know how bad RVW’s bruise really is but the most interesting piece of news coming out of Coolmore is the contrasting stories that ‘Mastercraftsman is putting in seriously better work than RVW’ with other sources saying the complete opposite.

Evasive has been on and off for the Guineas more times than Peter Andre’s shirt in his hayday. I cant have Evasive winning.

Sea The Stars is interesting but he seems more like a Derby horse!

Everything points to the Master for me. If news from one angle is right and the Master really is putting in some outstanding work then thats the icing on the cake for me.

His massive stride was evident when winning the One Railway Stakes. He goes on extremes of ground condition (Heavy/Firm) and that is normally the sign of a quality horse in my eye – to be able to act on all kinds of ground.

I’m taking a massive gamble on this fella, just like I did with Halfway to Heaven in the Nassu last year, and I really believe he’s going to pull this off.

I’m a sucker for an O’Brien horse I really like the look of (Henrythenavigator especially!)

Where were these reports about Mastercraftsman HWTH?

I heard that Rip Van Winkle has been pleasing AOB but have never heard or read anything that suggest they fancy Mastercrafsman.

Not saying you are wrong I am just curious.

They have removed the poltice from Rip Van Winkles foot and it has drawn the puss out which is good news. He will have missed a gallop this week but I wouldn’t imagine it would make too much difference.

With the race on Saturday they can give him a good blow on Thursday a relaxing walk or an easy canter on Friday and he should be ok.

That said if he is even slightly lame on Thursday morning he is highly unlikely to run.

I’m surprised he hasn’t taken a walk on Betfair as it must be only 50/50 he will run.

Looks like Murtagh is swaying towards the Master if the betting on Betfair is anything to go by, very happy with the 20s I took last year, pity I only staked £3, that was accomanied by a bigger stake bet on Cuis Ghair for the 1000 at 8/1 after checking my Betfair accounts, haha ah well

Hardly think so Red he’s drifted a tiny fraction and that’s due to his injury and nothing else.

Make no mistake Rip Van Winkle as I said weeks ago is the horse Murtagh wants to be 100% and wants to ride.

If he wasn’t his first choice you would know by now and he is obviously waiting like everyone ro see if RVW pulls through this and can work in the morning without any problems.

I cant see why that is Fist. A fully fit MC would beat a fully fit RVW IMO, Johnny knows a lot more than me to say the least lol but I feel whatever the jockey bookings tur out to be MC will show his class and wi the 2000 guinees.

Well i hope you are wrong, because i value Johnny as the best in the business and i cant see any reason why he would desert the Master,
the horse with way more scope than Rip Van, but above all he has the form
in the book! i can see the Master galloping Rip vans speed out of him as
they climb the hill to the finish! Arazan would be my danger!
