Somerset have been docked 12 points for the start of next season for producing a pitch that was deemed too excessive for spin. Won’t be winning the title next season then..
I wonder had Somerset won the league last season whether or not the points would have been taken there and then. Probably would have been as Essex would have pushed for it.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
September 24, 2020 at 12:04 #1503071Would it be considered job done if Somerset win this
or does it go down as a “covid cup” only..??Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
September 26, 2020 at 09:28 #1503472Essex have not hit many runs this year
step up Alastair Cook….
If the game ends in a draw it goes on 1st innings score so Somerset need the next 4 wickets quickGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 20, 2023 at 11:37 #1655940I’ve lost count of the virgin years

September 13, 2024 at 17:32 #1706889And you have got Lancashire next. Given the way the Red Rose are playing, it looks like a certain Somerset win and Division 2 cricket at Old Trafford next season.
I will be there on Tuesday but it has been a season to forget.
September 13, 2024 at 18:10 #1706891Both teams need a win so unless the weather plays a big part I can’t see the draw coming into it with sides declaring, setting targets etc

September 13, 2024 at 18:23 #1706892The forecast (if you can trust it) is for a good week.
The other problem for Lancashire is Nottinghamshire, their only relegation rivals, are playing Kent (as good as already relegated). A Lancashire defeat and a Nottinghamshire victory and it’s goodbye to the top division.
September 17, 2024 at 11:42 #1707956Jennings looks in good nick
on the bright side Durham have started well vs Surrey

September 17, 2024 at 17:29 #1707961Zero batting points won’t help either Lancs or Somerset

September 18, 2024 at 15:36 #170800121 wickets on the first day alone. Not surprising given the wicket looked almost as green as the outfield.
It was quite a good day there. Even better when the cask beer in the Members Pavilion was marked down to just £3 a pint. Although I left early to avoid the football supporters heading to the other Old Trafford just up the road.
At least Lancashire have managed to put on a bit of a score today and will have something to bowl at, although Nottinghamshire look like they will beat Kent. That means even if Lancashire win, they will have to defeat Worcestershire in the final match and hope Nottinghamshire lose in order to stay up. It doesn’t look likely.
September 18, 2024 at 18:29 #1708006Lancashire will have runs on the board
Somerset need to win but Surrey are in a good position and look nailed on for the title at the moment although another game to goGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
September 20, 2024 at 11:48 #1708085Sorry Nathan, the wait goes on.
A great win for Lancashire but unfortunately it is probably in a lost cause.
Both Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire are not safe – and they play each other next week. Warwickshire should be OK as long as they get all their bowling points.
To stay up, Lancashire need to win and Nottinghamshire have to lose. I never like relying on other results. The fact is Lancashire dug themselves into a hole in the previous three matches and are depending on others to dig them out of it.
September 20, 2024 at 12:02 #1708086Yes another year in the wilderness
one day final the last hope of a trophy this year.. its turned from a treble chance to a triple runners up possibility
Looking likely too little to late for Lancashire but they will have momentum at least going into the final gameGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

September 20, 2024 at 19:52 #1708125Bloody hell Nathan I wasn’t even 40 when you started this thread. Mind you a 40 year old starting to watch Somerset in their first season would now be a 173 and still waiting for them to win the title.
I can’t really believe they have come close so many times in the last few years without getting it done. Next year could be the year eh Nathan.
Surrey catching up with Yorkshire but can’t see them overtaking them in my lifetime.
September 28, 2024 at 17:33 #1708725At least you still have Division One cricket next season. Not so for Lancashire, as relegation is confirmed.

No one can have any complaints. It has been dismal all season.
