Bad news for Pretty Pollyanna fans I feel.
Michael Bell is keen to let her take her chance in the Prix Morny and while she could take that race in her stride, it’s a race that has got a pretty awful record for throwing up Guineas winners.
Zafonic is the only horse I can recall going on to win a Guineas and the list of previous winners of the Morny is littered with sprinters and/or horses who didn’t find their form the following season.
Last year’s winner Unfortunately went into a few notebooks as a possible good sprinter but he never came forward at all this year. It is interesting to note though, that if you take Unfortunately’s two wins in France out of the equation, the remainder of his form is at about a stone lower level.
With Pretty Pollyanna the form looks sound but having only raced at 6F on fast ground, there is a concern for me over her prospects of the Guineas mile in the spring. We see them coming into their 3YO careers all too often and then failing to see it out when upped from 6F.
The next couple of months should see a performance at 7F or a mile that will make us sit up and take note of a filly with a blend of class, speed and stamina which may snag the first Classic.
I did So Perfect for the Guineas at 33/1 and while it was pleasing to see her get as close as she did to Advertise, I am a bit wary about trusting that form and it’s also taken her longer to get to the level she is at now than I had hoped for.
If I felt there was a chance of Tasleya coming over I would take the 40/1 and I would expect those odds to contract markedly if she lands the Prix Calvados. The trouble is that Rouget seems much more likely to stay at home for their own Guineas.
An open race at the moment but I am against Pretty Pollyanna with the news that she’s being “Mornyed”
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 15, 2018 at 19:29 #1363090I also like Zagitova . She looks the type tailor made for the fillies’ middle distance races next year . Good temperament and a likeable attitude . I was really taken by her .

August 19, 2018 at 11:47 #1363501Pretty Polyanna is bred to be better over further than 6f so have taken an antepost punt at 12s in case she wins well again today.
August 19, 2018 at 11:52 #1363502Thoroughbred racing article I came across..
Pretty Pollyanna gallops like a miler, and is also bred like one, with her unraced dam Unex Mona Lisa (GB) (Shamardal) being a half to the nine-furlong GIII Robert J. Frankel S. winner Gender Agenda (GB) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}). That smart runner, who was also third in the GII Goldikova S. and fifth in the GI Matriarch S. over eight panels, is a full-sister to Unex El Greco (GB) who won a handicap over a mile and a quarter at this track and was later listed-placed at that trip in Bahrain. The second dam Friendlier (GB) (Zafonic) is a half to the owner-breeder’s stand-out runner User Friendly (GB) (Slip Anchor {GB}), the 1992 European Horse of the year courtesy of her trio of victories in the G1 English and Irish Oaks and G1 St Leger. Unex Mona Lisa’s yearling colt is by Nathaniel (Ire).
August 19, 2018 at 18:49 #1363528The two pulled clear of the field pulled away today and Pretty Pollyanna stayed better than Signora Cabello but that was to be expected as the filly who had won at 6F over the filly with 5F form.
There’s no doubt she is good but the extra distance in the Guineas and the record of Morny winners just puts me off, having been burnt too many times before.
There will likely be a 7F D-Day in the spring and we will all wait, some clutching nice vouchers, others not and there will be euphoria or dismay five minutes later.
The pleasure is the play, as Motorhead once sang. Born to lose, live to win
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 20, 2018 at 02:50 #1363539Hate to disagree with you and that article Mike, but to my mind it’s likely Polly will not get any further than 7f.
She’s a half sister to two 7f winners which would give some hope. However, they were both by greater stamina influences (miler sires) than Pretty Pollyanna’s sire – Champion Sprinter Oasis Dream. So being by a speedier sire means imo she’s unlikely to stay quite as far as her siblings. And the way PP runs through her races at 6f… It’s not that she’s ever pushed along to go the pace, travels with ease through her races at 6f. Not at all crying out for 7. I’d say no more than 50/50 to get 7f, a mile looks too far to me.
Value Is EverythingAugust 20, 2018 at 04:51 #1363542Looked like shed easily get 7 today, when she got headed then powered away, a good sign she had plenty left for me anyway, not sure about the mile yet, see how she does over 7 first.
August 20, 2018 at 11:01 #1363559Definitely agree Ham. Rockfel I presume with a penalty or maybe even the Dewhurst be spot on for her.
September 15, 2018 at 15:19 #1374151Draw against her here, but very interested in seeing Threthias again here. She probably won’t end up in the English equivalent, but i think she looked pretty smart.
Draw would be against her here though.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!September 15, 2018 at 18:59 #1374180Masssssive eye-catcher was Threthias, don’t get me wrong she a fair whack away from classic form currently, but she’s in my notebook going forward anyway.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 14, 2018 at 03:05 #1380461Having seen the voting for the 2yo fillies in the Cartier awards today I can’t help feeling that none of them really inspire me to back them for next years 1000 Guineas.
However there was a filly who won her Maiden at Newmarket on 3rd November who really took the eye.
FELICIANA DE VEGA trained by Ralph Beckett who has some lovely 2yo fillies in his yard including her half sister Dancing Vega who was paid a compliment by Blue Gardenia who ran 2nd to her and won next time out again at Newmarket on 3rd November.Feliciana De Vega is a filly who already looks like a 3yo, strong and athletic she could be mistaken for a colt and made mincemeat of the field pulling away by 6/7 lengths up the Rowley Mile and being eased at the finish.
Bred to be a distance horse The Oaks would also be a possibility for next season. An exciting prospect. Jac
Feliciana De Vega
33/1 CoralStill happy with my 33/1 on Royal Intervention and hope she comes back next season fitter and stronger to take her place in this race.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 10, 2018 at 19:00 #1388790Have to say the horses at top of betting here do not inspire me and could be a boilover next year or a horse who just won on AW I know will have stacks to find on form but this trainer runs top 2yos on AW just look at ENABLE
STRAVDIAVUIS and WITHOUT PAROLESHE GOT YOU 50/1 Hills gave me price
Gosden knows the type of horse to win a classic though as we seen Newmarket classics are hard for him with Kingman should of have won.Got fave for 2000 and while this filly got a lot to find there is no denying she look strong at finish same owner of WITHOUT PAROLE who develop into group one winner. won on AW every chance this filly can become a group one horse. When you think current 1000 guineas market at this moment do not look all that.
December 29, 2018 at 05:30 #1390630She is a half sister to Without Parole Darren and also to Tamarkuz the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile winner. Good luck with her
Late foal born May 3rd means she will only just be a 3yo around Guineas time but hopefully that will not hinder her chances…JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 29, 2018 at 05:32 #1390631Too busy Christmas shopping and kicking myself for missing my notebook filly FELICIANA DE VEGA winning a Listed Race at Deauville on 16th December at 11/10fav
So now she has her black type 1000 Guineas here we come (I hope) She is a stunning looking filly and already has the build of a 3yo, an exciting prospect for 2019…JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 24, 2019 at 09:31 #1403667The two I like are Just Wonderful. The Breeders cup race you can excuse as a long distance travel plus a poor start to the race and sharp track but even so she didn’t string two good runs in a row together. The thing in her favour though was she handled the course at Newmarket in the Rockfel and has run better at the 7f and mile opposed to shorter and she has the genius of a trainer. I think 10’s looks short enough though
and
I’d be incline to take Iridessa at 16’s here
more of an Oaks sort I guess but her stamina will be welcome early season
lightly raced enough to suggest improvement still to comeBlackbeard to conquer the World
March 30, 2019 at 23:21 #1415035Dipped my toe into the water with east at 20/1
Ran a very eye catching race to come second to newspaperofrecord in the breeders cup after being drawn 14 of 14 and sitting last much of the race
This race looks a complete puzzle at this stage
April 6, 2019 at 01:52 #1416428IRIDESSA running at Leopardstown today Nathan, she should win this on her way to Newmarket.
Also look out for Buckhurst in the 1.40 son of Australia (he holds a Derby entry)
Maybe a small double. JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out... -
