Off topic but I wonder if this could be extended to human athletes.
Is there something in Justin Gatlin’s DNA that would say he doesn’t ‘stay’ 5000m?
As Louise said, you’d think specialised training could help a horse stay further than the genetic optimum. Gatlin could run a marathon in a high-class time if he had 6-12 months of training. Why are horses such specialists in comparison?
