BetVictor’s Charlie McCann runs the rule over Thursday’s cards

BetVictor’s Charlie McCann runs the rule over Thursday’s cards last year’s Scottish National winner Vicente, recently bought privately by Trevor Hemmings, has been the best-backed horse in recent days for the Grand National and was cut from 20s from 33/1 at BetVictor for the Aintree spectacular. The entries, but not weights, came out yesterday for the Topham Chase on Ladies Day and at first glance, my two against the field would be Stellar Notion for Ireland and Warrior’s Tale representing Paul Nicholls. I presented the champion trainer with the prize after Warrior’s Tale jumped superbly to win a BetVictor sponsored race at Newbury earlier in the month and we both nominated the Topham as his next port of call. At Ludlow this afternoon Kerry Lee looks to have found a gilt-edged opportunity for Gino Trail […]

BetVictor’s Charlie McCann with Grand National update and Wednesday’s cards   Recently updated !

BetVictor’s Charlie McCann with Grand National update and Wednesday’s cards News yesterday that Gold Cup runner up and Grand National favourite Minella Rocco (10/1 favourite with BetVictor) would miss Aintree and be trained next season with Cheltenham again his primary target. The news came as something of a shock given stamina is the horse’s forte but no seven-year-old has won the race since Bogscar in 1940 and connections must feel now is not the right time. As a result, Haydock Trial winner Vieux Lion Rouge is the new 10/1 favourite with Cause Of Causes (12/1 from 14s) and Blaklion (12s from 14s) cut following the news of the favourite’s defection. A good card from Haydock to look forward to today and a cracking 2m 4f handicap chase with all five runners having finished first or […]

Charlie McCann of BetVictor.com previews Tuesday’s cards

Charlie McCann of BetVictor.com previews Tuesday’s cards Good ground is the order of the day at Wetherby this afternoon for their seven-race card and William Of Orange (3.25) will appreciate the underfoot conditions having had a two-month break since finishing fifth of fifteen at Catterick last time in first-time cheek-pieces. The selection was rated 90 on the flat for Sir Mark Prescott and did run his best race over timber to date when runner up at today’s west Yorkshire track over two miles back in December. This additional half mile should suit given he finished runner up over two miles on the flat at York less than two years ago and the hope is that he is freshened him up after his mini-break. I hope to see Powerful Symbol (4.00) improve for the return to […]

Jack Milner reflects on Cheltenham and digs a few out for Monday’s racing

Jack Milner reflects on Cheltenham and digs a few out for Monday’s racing The Cheltenham Festival was another brilliant week of National Hunt racing with the three novice chase successes of Altior, Yorkhill and Might Bite in particular proving memorable and likely to be competing for Championship honours at next year’s meeting. Might Bite won the RSA Chase despite hanging across the Cheltenham track in the closing stages, and is 4/1 with BetVictor for the King George on Boxing Day at Kempton. King George prices from BetVictor Thistlecrack 5/2 Might Bite 4/1 Sizing John 5/1 Douvan 6/1 Yorkhill 8/1 12/1 Bar The gelding famously fell at the last when clear in the G1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase in December but will likely head to the track in a bid to atone for that final fence […]

Tommy Sutton of Betway with the low-down on Friday’s Festival card

Tommy Sutton of Betway with the low-down on Friday’s Festival card Another tough day yesterday, given that I ignored everything Ruby Walsh was riding. Hopefully we can strike some gold and finish the week the way we started. Here’s another win double along with some each-way chances to have a flutter on. As ever, you’re covered if you lose the first and last race with our headline offer. Defi De Seuil looking for his fourth Cheltenham win in Triumph Hurdle We start with the 1.30pm Triumph Hurdle, where Phillip Hobbs’ unbeaten Defi Du Seuil (9/4) is eyeing a six-timer. The four-year-old has been a sensation so far, and already has three wins on this course. He won at both the Open and International meeting at the end of last year, while champion jockey Richard Johnson […]
