Someone once said to me that in addition to a weight-for-age scale there should be a weight-for-experience scale: a horse could be allowed, say, 7 lb on its debut, 4 lb on its next run…and so on. ÂÂÂ
Discuss.
Surely experience? would depend on how ready a horse was to race when it gets to a racecourse, some are more ready than others. How would you differentiate.
Colourful characters are OK but you have to abide by the rules, especially when specifically asked to do so. Shame it had to go that far, surely forcing them to read one of J24’s Articles would have been enough punishment.

Pru, i’m still bemused. most of the races use a large part of the straight @Southwell and in the longer races they are travelling wide’ish around the bend.
If there is a discrepancy in the distance lets get onto HQ and give them some grief, it’s not good enough, we put up with enough **** as it is.
I had wondered about the Southwell timings @ 5 but i only started using their figures more recently.

Why?
Best i can come up with with is windy miller from camberwick green. :)
I’ve just had a horrible thought that would devastate racing as we know it, Ascot may have produced the PERFECT FLAT RACING SURFACE.
At Doncaster a couple of years ago when course records were appearing one after the other on suposedly good ground. It was explained as a springy effect if i remember correctly, occurring after rain. If Ascot is draining extremely fast maybe just enough moisture is being left behind to produce such an effect?
More plausible than Alien interference or the stalls being placed in the wrong place! ;)
The inability of the officials to give a correct assesment of the going is my main hates in racing. That’s why i thought the aw would rectify this being a constant surface. Now this has been interfered with as well. There are enough imponderables in racing without the COURSE Officials not knowing what’s happening.
Thats my point the course has been used more now than at the royal meeting.
Would the racing have compacted the soil with racing, quickening it further? Its not as if the the pace wasn’t there at the royal meeting.
Not officially as quick as brighton, from good 1&2 to GS after race 2 yet back to good by race 6 & 7
Tilsworth Charlie B.530
Oooops! that theories dead, 1st race was one of the quick ones, what about York last year when then the top was flying off yet still excellent times. It’s all a bit wierd.:o
So, i must assume it was wet or had just rained before race 1, water was still in the ground, hence soft. After that the water drained away and nobody noticed?
Agreed totally different now. Amazing looking track IMO. drainage should take away extremes of ground. I’m still using the old times adjusted (to the magic FORMULA:biggrin: )untill i have enough data.
