Racing would be a sadder place without Frankie and his flying dismounts and infectious love of the sport and I hope he goes on for a good few years yet.

Don’t forget that some years back he nearly lost his life in a fatal light aircraft crash at Newmarket and who can dislike a jockey for celebrating after a win, especially one who has given his all to the sport without a touch of scandal or sleaze like many of his counterparts.

Frankie Dettori is the reason a lot of people go racing and they remember his Magnificent 7 at Royal Ascot and which of the horses they backed on that day.

Even Sheik Mohammed was waving his arms about in the air after Rewildings fantastic win and I’ve never seen him look so happy, that has to be good for racing.

Every jockey is different in how they cope with the big race win, I particularly loved the way that Jamie Spencer threw his arms around Fame and Glory’s neck and hugged him today after he had won the Gold Cup.

I’m really enjoying the BBC’s coverage this year, and have forgiven Willie Carson for advising we all put our house on So You Think and constantly calling Fame and Glory

    Flaming Glory

, he did it so many times before the Gold Cup that Clare Balding & Rishi just raised a tired eyebrow to camera.

However, I would like to see more of the horses in the paddock as there is such a short space between races and the bell for jockeys to mount has gone off long before they start to show us the runners parading in the paddock.

Makes me smile just how many times Aiden O’Brien says ‘Listen’ when he is giving an interview.
We are listening Aiden, very very hard.

Isn’t the Queen looking for a new Racing Manager? Well if not,she should and pop down to Warren Place soon for a nice cuppa and a Rich Tea with her newest Knight to discuss some useful yearlings she may have obtained courtesy of Sheik Mohammed.

Watch this space the Knighthood is just the beginning, the Queen could be planning some changes in her 60th Jubilee Year and Sir Michael Stoute might be a tad worried this morning..

WELL DONE SIR HENRY and heres to the best Royal Ascot you have ever known and many more to come. :)

So many horses have lost their lives this week, heartbreaking for all concerned.
Here in Memorials at least we can pay respects for all the brave horses that have sadly passed on, whether on the racecourse, point to point or much loved pets. RIP

Can’t see what all the fuss is about, Johnny Murtagh is
as good if not a better jockey than Kieran Fallon.
Fallon is a free agent and should be able to choose which horse he wishes to ride. He did give fair warning of his intentions, it’s not as if he jumped off at the last minute.
The owner rightly feels let down, but let the horse do the talking..Kieran could have made the worse decision of his career.

SOBEA STAR…Chestnut Filly by Soviet Star – trained by Pam Sly

Sadly broke down and fatally injured in the 8.40 at Ripon tonight.
RIP sweet girl, you gave your all tonight for the sport that we love and some call cruel, but we know that you were loved and never ill treated, hopes and dreams were with you tonight but they were not to be.

They are running on UK courses, in UK races for UK racegoers, they should be named in English. If they are going to be campaigned at Meydan or Abu Dhabi then call them something in Arabic.

It’s a disgrace, these Arabs come over here and buy our horses and take our prize money and can’t even give them proper English names. Send ’em back to their own country if they want to choose names in their own language I say. Lets hope ‘Er Majesty, gawd bless her, wins the Derby with a good old English horse this year.

That good old English horse was gifted to ‘Er Maj’ by Sheik Mohammed who a few years back was ill advised and sold the Dam of Derby Winner Nashwan (Height of Fashion) to Sheik Hamdam for £1,000,000.
Now I think the Sheik (Mohammed), by way of a thank you, has gifted The Queen with a possible Derby winner who’s dam sire is none other than Bustino the Sire of Height of Fashion.

    Funny old world

I love the Arab names and trying to figure out what they might mean in English.
The Arab naming of two fillies a couple of years back caused some confusion when the fillies Habaayib and Hibaayeb were running, one trained by Ed Dunlop and the other by Clive Brittain.

My only real gripe is with owners, obviously with more money than sense, giving beautiful thoroughbreds stupid names.

There can’t be a worse name for a filly than the 2yo as yet unraced trained by Richard Hannon (see Steve Taplin’s 2yo book) that has been named MANMANMANMAN now I’m looking forward to Richard Hoyles calling that one home.

Gaelic names are sometimes just as hard to prounonce such as
    SAOIRSE ABU – Freedom Forever
    FINSCEAL BEO – Living Legend

TEOFILO (an Italian boy’s name meaning Friend of God)

HALICARNASSUS – An ancient Greek City

but they have all have meaning as do the Arab horses, the quirky names can seem fun at the time, but beautiful thoroughbreds deserve much better..Jac
