Isn’t the Queen looking for a new Racing Manager? Well if not,she should and pop down to Warren Place soon for a nice cuppa and a Rich Tea with her newest Knight to discuss some useful yearlings she may have obtained courtesy of Sheik Mohammed.
Watch this space the Knighthood is just the beginning, the Queen could be planning some changes in her 60th Jubilee Year and Sir Michael Stoute might be a tad worried this morning..

WELL DONE SIR HENRY and heres to the best Royal Ascot you have ever known and many more to come.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 11, 2011 at 11:41 #360093I can only echo the sentiments expressed above. I am thoroughly delighted that a true ambassador for the sport has finally been recognised. He is the master trainer of his generation and a truly self effacing genius.
Welld one Sir, you thoroughly deserve it.
On another point wasn’t Sir Peter O’Sullevan knighted for his services to racing ?June 11, 2011 at 12:01 #360098

Most certainly Sir Peter was, Coggy. How could I have forgotten him?!
June 11, 2011 at 12:09 #360099Cav – I’m sure this will be a very popular post and I’m sure it tells us a lot more about you than it does about SIR Henry.
At least it speaks the truth and says a lot more of substance than the fawning crap that you posted above.

– David – you must be missing the football season. This is not really the forum for the likes of you is it? Funny though!!!"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
June 11, 2011 at 13:02 #360113Just seen next Friday’s entries – great to see the name "Sir Henry Cecil" there!

– David – you must be missing the football season. This is not really the forum for the likes of you is it? Funny though!!!Not sure what the football season has anything to do with this thread. But sure if you can’t take criticism or come up with a decent response then by all means throw in a personal insult or 2.
June 11, 2011 at 13:44 #360122The insults began with your post David. Lets leave it as this should be a positive thread.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
June 11, 2011 at 13:49 #360125Actually if you care to read it again, my post attacked what you posted and not you
In addition, the points raised by Cav merit discussion, particularly in the context of this thread.
June 11, 2011 at 14:01 #360126You said it was "fawning crap" which is actually highly insulting as it implies I am some sort of backside licker who talks rubbish.
It was SO insulting that I can only assume you are a young man of very low intelligence hence the reference to football which I actually thought was a rather good response.
As for not being able to take criticism – well I’m not sure how one can be criticised for praising someone who has just received a knighthood on a thread meant just for that. In fact I am not even sure it can constitute as criticism, but the world is full of strange people….
Anyway I am too old for silly arguments so thats me done with you.

June 11, 2011 at 16:42 #360144Cecil, a great trainer yes, a great man, no. Flawed and human like the rest of us.
p.s. the hooker and drink driving are already in the public domain
Have not many flawed men become great? Surely being human and flawed is the lot of us all, everyone on the planet. Cannot some of those six billion be described as great. I know that being stupid or deranged enough to drink and drive and injure people is not great behaviour, but cannot someone rise above that episode to redeem themselves in the public conscience? Or are we all condemned forever for our human stupidities and frailties?
June 11, 2011 at 16:48 #360145Not a supporter of the honours system myself but if it means something to Henry Cecil then I’m delighted for him. No-one in our sport deserves it more.
A truly great trainer, an interesting personality and a gentleman.
June 11, 2011 at 16:54 #360146P.S. Unbelievable that even a thread such as this should attract arguments and sniping.
June 11, 2011 at 17:09 #360149No disrespect to anyone including Henry Cecil butslightly bewildering meaningless nonsense with an undeniable whiff of class structure to it for to me I’m afraid but fascinating nonetheless.
The whole honours thing is a bit odd in lots of respects isn’t it….why do some people have to go through the ‘ranks’ before they get knighted ( Bruce Forsyth and Peter O’Sullevan for example) yet Henry Cecil appears to have been knighted first time out?
As for Sir Michael Stoute’s ‘services to Barbadian tourism’ and Mark Prescott using a title that he hasn’t even earned himself I’m afraid on balance I have more respect for people who politely decline titles or don’t use them and who just quietly get on with it……..don’t even get me started on spouses who call themselves Lady this or that because of their partner’s achievements ( where is your pride and where is the meaning in that?)
As for Cecil the man I am squarely in the Cav camp when it comes to everyone saying what a gent he is etc etc and for me all of the joy being expressed about this much deserved honour has a whiff of the master and servant classism about it that underpins the sport…….because Cecil has more than a hint of toff about him Sir Henry has the right ring to it for so many racing fans.
Why has there been no knighthood for Martin Pipe whose contribution to racing has been the equal of arguably any in the sports history…..only a CBE for him……clearly not posh enough it seems and meanwhile McCoy is making his way through the ranks.
On balance in 2011 we’d all be better off without the lot of it.
June 11, 2011 at 17:35 #360154Henry Cecil knighted first time out – get a grip man or break out the happy pills.
A totally deserving recipient, in my humble opinionJune 11, 2011 at 17:39 #360155Delighted for him. We’ve all done things we aren’t proud of, but he’s done plenty worth being proud of, and is very deserving of this recognition.
June 11, 2011 at 18:12 #360164A much-deserved knighthood for a fine trainer and man.
Well done, Sir Henry!
