I am sure Darley would make good use of him. He was a smart 2yo wasn’t he ?

He’ll be welcome at stud in Austrsalia i’d imagine.

I don’t understand these comments as evidence the race should be increased back to 2400m ?

Carlos Laffon-Parias trained dual Group 1-winner Laverock to finish sixth behind Shamardal in the inaugural running over the shorter trip, and he suggested on Monday that the "best horse" no longer wins.

While Shamardal went on to win the St James’s Palace Stakes at York before being retired to stud after a training setback, runner-up Hurricane Run made his name over 1m4f by taking the Irish Derby and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and then landing the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot as a four-year-old.

Last year Montmartre, who posted a career high Racing Post Rating of 127 when taking the Grand Prix de Paris, was only 15th to Vision d’Etat in the Jockey-Club with the winner achieving an RPR of 122.

Laffon-Parias said: "Look what happened with Hurricane Run and Montmartre. The best horse doesn’t win the Jockey-Club any more and I don’t consider it a Classic."

I maybe wrong but that seems a nonsense arguement.

Just out of curiosity – where does New Approach finish on Saturday?

Its an interesting question, would he have settled well enough to play apart ?

I’d have him amongst the ballydoyle mob.

How can people say the breed is weeker than previous when horses are not asked to perform the same tasks ?

I would say its more likely the sport has gone out of the sport rather than the breed itself being any weeker.

I doubt any series of races will capture the imagination of racegoers if it made winning it easy and is won every other year ?

The aura of such races is the difficulty of it all, the rarity.

No matter what manufactured triple crown is put up for contest it will never replace the Guineas – Derby – Leger, at least not in our life time, it would take numerous runnings and FAILURES for it to build any kind of aura about it.

If the American Triple crown was won every year for a decade, it would lose its mystic before that decade was out.

Will the Irish Derby be run in manner that allows those on the speed to be in the finish ?

Was it really a slow pace, to my eye it was a pace that gave every horse, wether up contesting the pace or back in the field their chance to win IF they were good enough ?

Perhaps, just perhaps the very best horse in the race won the race ?

As per the heading of this thread if you change one bit of the triple crown than it is as good as dead as we know it, nothing particularly wrong with that.

It should not however be changed to make whatever the triple crown was to become any easier. How long had it been before Nijinsky won the final leg that a horse had completed the crown ?

In the fair dinkum department unless the St Leger is changed to either an open age race or changed in distance or done away with altogether ( and i doubt that would happen), than the triple crown will always be the Guineas – The Derby and and the Leger no matter what others may want as the final leg.

If for example the final leg was to be the King George as somebody i think suggested, the triple crown as we know it will still for historical purposes end with the Leger.

The best site for form is without doubt –

    http://www.racingvictoria.net.au/default.aspx
    http://horseform.racingandsports.com.au/

Form with video from Sydney and Victoria –

    https://www.bestbets.com.au/web/

Of the 6 you have mentioned there i would say Divine Rebel and Mr Tipsy are the most likely to head to the Melbourne Cup but i doubt any of them have the quality to win a Melbourne Cup

Of the others i would imagine Theseo will be aimed at the Cox Plate, Fiumicino would possibly be up to a Caulfield Cup if its run on a damp track.

Has it been totally dismissed the chances of Sea The Stars going on to the St.Leger ?

If you go to the link below and in the big box at the top Media Centre click on the Racing Post Television tab, and then click on The Triple Crown? video, you’ll hear what trainer and jockey said about it yesterday.

Oxx says he fears that if he suggested it, Michael would be worried he was finally losing his marbles:

Thanks wit, having listened i am going to take it as a doubtful rather then totally ruling it out.

If anybody is interested in watching and if the link takes you to the race, can you tell me what you think of the jumping please ?

The winner is back last in running, to my mind he jumps very very poorly.

This is a steeple race as we have come to know them.

Should Scenic Blast arrive safe and well in your neck of the woods, he’ll win with something to spare.

It is certainly not wide ranging but Lee Freedman is one that certainly comes straight to mind.
