Sadly, there were six, yes SIX, horses killed at Killarney yesterday.
Nick Luck may be a tad creepy for some tastes, but he made a good point on the Morning Line on Saturday about the danger to NH racing in this country from the public perception of the number of fatalities in the sport.
This is likely to become a bigger issue here in coming years, and it’s important that racing, and racing authorities, are ready to respond to the threat. It isn’t going to go away.
May 13, 2009 at 07:03 #227263Racing Victoria Limited will outline their landmark decision today.
There’s a throng of protestors at RVL headquarters today, and almost the entire Victorian trainer’s fraternity are also in attendance to support the NH community.
May 13, 2009 at 21:02 #227400They’ve now decided to postpone the decision until 3pm Monday (Melbourne time).
May 14, 2009 at 13:14 #227525Fantastic link.Have we worked out what those fences are made of?
Seems to me the winners jockey has been studying his course management from Patrick Veitch. Bringing him to the inside definitely won him the race. 20 lengths better I`d say.
May 18, 2009 at 21:36 #228513Jumps racing in Victoria will continue to the end of the current season (with various modifications, see link below), when a further review will be conducted.
May 20, 2009 at 09:38 #228896Dumb.
Further watering down of the sport to the point where the significance of actual jumping is non-existant.
June 3, 2009 at 08:01 #231682There’s just been an item on this on Up All Night on Radio Five Live. I missed the start, as I was running the bath. Something to do with a trainer’s ban being reduced to two weeks????????????
Then had an interview with some woman from Animals Australia or Victoria.
13 deaths from 90 races last season, and that is typical. I’m thinking that the mortality rate over here isn’t too far short of that, but we might have more horses running per race.I definitely think the watering policy at Cheltenham and Aintree is here to stay, and this is the reason.
June 4, 2009 at 05:28 #231865If anybody is interested in watching and if the link takes you to the race, can you tell me what you think of the jumping please ?
The winner is back last in running, to my mind he jumps very very poorly.
This is a steeple race as we have come to know them.
