    I’d rather you didn’t!

Seriously, though, many thanks Cormack for running this competition and to all the other competitors (especially Grizzo and FHL) for taking it to down to the wire.

Looking at the results, I reckon that if Osana hadn’t finished in front of Fair Along in the finale then we’d have had a three-way dead-heat, which would have been a fitting result.

I’m keen on Jaunty Times for this. He split Wee Robbie and According To John in the Reynoldstown last month and both franked the form somewhat at the Festival. 7 year olds have a good record in this race (3 winners from only 10 runners. 11 stone is more than is usually carried by the winner of this race, but he’s only had 5 starts over fences and could still be improving.

I cannot convey in words the shock and sadness I felt when I heard of Craig’s passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to Debs and Luke.

    EC,

I didn’t spot anything untoward with the straight course times today. I gave Tante Rose 93 (previous wins 88 and 87)and Forever Phoenix 86 (86), both of which are very close to the sort of ratings I would expect to see on the going and for the class.

I’m going to double check my 10.5f standard time though (seems it may be a bit slack)!

I gave Goodbye Mr Bond a rating of 85 for his win on Friday, which on my scale equates to a solid 0-95 handicap winning time.

This was the fastest time of the day, by some way, but is on a par with what he has achieved in his previous couple of runs and I can see him winning again soon as long as the going is good or better.

I was actually more interested in the figure put up by Stephano in the last at Haydock today (85 coincidentally). This is exceptional for the grade, and he should follow up.

By the way, I have checked my Haydock standard times and I have the 6f time at 12.5 seconds more than the 5f time.

Heartfelt condolences to all connections of Doran’s Pride. Similarly I have fond memories of him as he provided me with my first ever Festival winner all those years ago. He was a wonderful racehorse, and will be sadly missed.

I’m pretty sure at the same time Julie Cecil had Mary Hinge she had another one called Joe Blob.

Yes, an excellent race – congratulations to Golan and his connections on a well-deserved (and poignant) victory. Even if it did cost me a packet!

I did get the impression from the times today that they had probably over-watered the course, but I don’t think this really detracted from what was a fine race, fought out between two genuine group one horses.

On some lines of form through Indian Creek, Nayef has as good a chance as Grandera, yet is available at nearly six times the price, and Grandera is far from certain to appreciate the extra quarter mile. Back on song, as he reportedly is, he has the beating of Boreal on their Dubai running (on good).

Sakhee hasn’t been seen since March, and will not win on firm going anyhow. I’d be surprised if he even runs.

Zindabad and Storming Home are simply not good enough.

The ones that interest me for the places are Millenary (better on a more galloping track, but on my figures the fastest middle distance horse seen so far this year) and Golan (but again I have my doubts about whether 12 furlongs is really his trip).

    Nice one Esc!

Hawk Wing proved absolutely squat today. The ground was tacky and that certainly inconvenienced Indian Creek – apart from that he beat his pacemaker, a handicapper and a frail mudlark. Oh, and the time of the race was a whole 1.5 seconds quicker than Football Crazy put up in the 0-85 handicap – big deal!

Hawk Wing is undoubtably better than this, and certainly looks the part, but I will be looking to oppose him whenever (if?) he meets decent oppostion in the future. He’s now had 3 chances to prove his greatness and I am still not convinced – hopefully I’ll be proved wrong!
