I can’t believe that Blue Monday is 40/1. Good enough last year to run 3rd in the Eclipse and Juddmonte and is sure to appreciate the going unlike at least half the field. It can’t be underestimated the importance of a good run in the Caulfield Cup, either – by my reckoning only Media Puzzle and Makybe Diva (once) in recent years have not run (and finished in the first six) at Caulfield prior to winning the Cup.
I’ve done that too! If memory serves there were a couple of 7/2 joint favourites and I must have accidentally ticked the wrong box. Fortunately though, the one I put the money on did actually win with the one I meant to back coming nowhere. Got a shock when I logged in a couple of weeks later and saw the balance I had sitting there.
Master Oats. Spent six months telling anyone who’d listen that he was nailed on for the ’95 Gold cup.
I quite fancy the chances of Supaseus in this. So far unbeaten when returning from a break, he’s a lightly-raced, generally progressive 4yo C&D winner who’s proven in big-field straight course handicaps.
