I for one won’t miss him, although he will probably walk into a nice TV job and be even more annoying. In his autobiography this guy admitted to inserting a piece of lead to the end of his whip as a young man in Italy.
Thank you.
Weekend special, that was it.
How long did it run.I think Lester was to racing
what Don Bradman was to cricket.
Head and shoulders above.Very sad, as a schoolboy he was
my racing hero.I could tell you at any point in
the season how many winners he had ridden. Listening to the radio sports report, glued to the racing results. In the days when libraries carried telephone directories
for all over the UK. I once looked up his address in Newmarket but wasn’t brave enough to write and ask for a autograph.Helps the jockey keep the horse running straight, with the whip in the correct hand.
Tired horses can sometimes wonder around, covering extra ground.Going to work on a cigar and a black coffee. Where as someone like Willie Carson could have a cooked breakfast.
Well said befair.
There is a lot to go wrong over
the sticks.
Having said that, I keep trying.I am also a member of the owners
group, along with 3,499 others,
in one horse.
Some years ago, I was a member
of a syndicate. Twenty in total
and the thrill isn’t any different.
The thought of making
any money doesn’t come in to it,
whether 20, or 3,500. It’s just
being involved.
Good luck.Nice to hear Bangor attracted a
good crowd. A lovely venue.Julian Wilson, in commentary mentioned the field passing the
grandstand. Quickly correcting
himself, pointing out there isn’t a grandstand. As Big Mac used to say “someone
knew”. Probably several in this
case.I didn’t have a bet but would of been worried when she
was fighting for her head early on. Once settled, she
looked the winner.
As for the Oaks my only concern would be how she handles
the prelims and the course.May 11, 2022 at 20:46 in reply to: When a horse doesn’t show a lot at home what does that mean exactly? #1597669Quite useful to have in a yard.
Not pulling your arms out in a morning. Good lead horse.
Then lights up when he or she sees the racecourse. My fear with the drop in attendances at racecourses, is the building developers start sniffing around.
Very interesting.
Looking forward to the others.
Thank you. What a story good for him.
Couldn’t agree more Rob.
There are those that sit on class horses in big races week after week and then Brian Hughes is traveling all over. Pushing and
shoving one over the line in low grade races. The owners
of such animals must love him. It also gives the race
goers the chance to see a very good jump jockey performing
at what some might call lesser courses. You know me so well.
