Unfortunately Cormack I really do have to go – the plane won’t wait – even for me.

I will return to debate this futher but must say that your analogy with motor racing is strained at best. Not least because the drivers have a choice whether or not they get in a car – horses don’t have that same choice.

Well Jiminy, I’m off for a well earned rest. Just changing jobs and got a few days off in between so you’ll all have a more peaceful time of it…………for now!

Jiminy, it was directed at you because you ask a question earlier in the thread but I now realise you were just asking about dogs.

Enjoy your break from me and remember, just like Arnie, I’ll be back!

As far as the £100 is concerned I would like to make the donation to the Injured Jockeys Fund (primarily because I care a damn sight more for people than horses). If you could approve the same Carvills, I will be happy to send my cheque today.

If you’re not happy with that then I’ll send it to the Horses Rehabilitation doodaa. Just let me know.

    Right then boys!

Firstly I abhor greyhound racing for all sorts of reasons. So I’ll not be getting involved in that.

Secondly, I said gambling was a means to an end. I did not say that the "end" was money. Indeed I didn’t say what the end was. So rather than jumping to conclusions and judging me by your own standards, THINK before you make the comments.

Finally, two horses are coming to the last in the champion hurdle neck and neck, going at it hammer and tongs and one of them falls. You have backed the one that stays on its feet and it goes on to win.

When the horse falls you do not think about the pain or discomfort the horse is in you think………..Yeeeeeeees, I’m on the winner and for a few bob too!" That’s human nature and I wouldn’t berate anyone for it.

Now all this cr@p that’s spouted by connections about "we just hope the horse comes back safely". If connections were that concerned thay wouldn’t race it at all.

Everybody knows the risks of racing horses but still the game continues yet so many people have this holier than thou attitude – they care for horses – yeah right, that’s why we’re running it in the Grand National over 4 and a half miles on heavy ground over 30 of the biggest fences the horse is ever likely to encounter.

The truth is that anybody at all involved in horse racing does not give a monkey’s about the horses, just the pleasure they derive from the racing. This includes bookies, trainers, punters, owners, stable staff et al.

The trouble with you "holy" brigade is that you just don’t want to admit it.

Ask yourself this – what is the safest way to ensure a thoroughbred does not have to endure pain? There’s only one answer – don’t bloody race it.

This debate is an all or nothing one. There’s no questions of degree here. If you support horseracing in whatever guise, then you too don’t give a rats ass.

However unsavoury that may appear to you it’s an incontrovertible fact.

    How’s that Jiminy?

This is absolutely true and is my once a year habit.

I have 2 children, their birthdays are within 3 weeks of each other – the middle of December and beginning of January.

When I get back from Cheltenham, my wife has missed me sooooooo much! Just count back 9 months from December and you got it.

However, I lost this year so I think it may turn biennial as punishment!

Christmas could be busy this year!

    Aston, cool your jets man!

It was alliteration and nothing else. The 4 horses mentioned were either favourite or 2nd favourite when I started the thread.

2 of them didn’t have a cat in hell’s chance (MF and HE) and the other two were overhyped and underpriced. None of them had finished 1st or 2nd lto and this is a trend I’d been battered for talking about.

The reference to the fab4 was because of their artificially high position in the market and the fact that MF and HE especially were sentimental punts.

Now please put that soap box away Aston. I’m not trying to knock particular horses, just putting their chances into proper perspective.

As for blowing my own trumpet – BO!!OCKS!

I lost at Cheltenham and am happy to admit it so the only thing I was blowing were my freezing effing fingers!<br>

Here we go again – this is not an anti Irish thread! I started a thread entitled "Trends knock out……….some fancied horses"

The four horses I highlighted as not likely to win at Cheltenham were Our Ben, Acc Etoile, MF and HE. I took plenty of flak at the time I posted and now I was explaining how that specific point of view had been vindicated.

I don’t give a rats ass if Irish are better than English or vice versa. Gambling is a means to an end.

I also don’t give a rats ass about how many horses died at the festival. So what?

I bet for a certain reason and try not to get sentimental. I didn’t delight in any of the above 4 getting beaten – and I didn’t say in my post that I did.

    Get off your soap box.

No! They can be described as worthy if they come back next year and repeat the dose.

The only one capable of that I suspect is War of Attrition. Brave Inca was lucky – Macs Joy, and Al Eile make his form look no better than last year to me and both Feathard Lady and Harchie could be back next year. There will also be some interesting competition from this years novices.

My Way won possibly the dullest Stayers I have ever witnessed and was lucky in much the same way as BI – the competition was sub-standard.

In fact all the Championship races were a light of former years with little strength in depth.

The Gospel according to Saint Slooch – here endeth the lesson.

Afternoon Jiminy – he still hasn’t contacted me so I’ll just have to wait and see what he comes up with.

Credibility was both lost and gained – specifically on the trends front.

5yo winning the Coral Cup was a dagger through my heart as was the 7yo novice winning the WH Trophy.

On the plus side none of the Irish Fab 4 came close to winning – Our Ben, Accordion Etoile, Hardy and Moscow.

Unfortunately my laying of MF did not cover my total losses which were nothing short of horrendous with only Nicanor saving me from a total whitewash. Oh and my generous bookie paid me e/w on Sublimity at 50s which was unexpected. (Get on this one if it goes to Aintree – it really is a good un but was very unlucky).

There’s no trouble Cormack, I’m liable and will pay. I’m just p!ssed off that Carvills came on here giving forth when he could quite easily have rung me to find out the score.

It’s all too easy for him to call into question my integrity behind the cyberspace veil when clearly he had another option but chose not to exercise it.

furthermore, he chose not to PM me about what happened but rather he gives out to the whole forum first. As far as I’m concerned it appears to be a cheap shot but I’ll wait and see what he has to say.

b/f – I just want this thread to stay on page one until Carvills responds and my credibility is restored – sorry for any inconvenience!!

Sky’s the Limit won the Coral Cup doing absolute handsprings – and the first 5yo ever to do it. This horse has form lines with Feathard Lady which make FL look better than what we have seen.

Hardy can’t win next year tho I don’t agree that he was past it this. The prep did him imo.

I’m a perennial Harchie knocker but I think he’s better than BI. I also think the County hurdle winner and one or two of this years novices could put Inca in his place.

All in all next years CH could be the mutz nutz of a race and I certainly wouldn’t be touching BI befor Xmas in the AP markets

Well Brave Inca has got to be the luckiest Champion Hurdle winner ever. No Feathard Lady, no Harchibald and an undercooked Hardy Eustace? BI wouldn’t have made the frame if all his opponents had been there fit and ready.

    LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY!!!!!

I have sent you a PM and explained precisely what happened.

Before you post this rubbish and denigrate my reputation get your facts straight.

I PMd you my mobile telephone number if there were any problems – you chose not to reciprocate so I was unable to contact you.

For all you posters out there that think I’m a welcher here are the facts:

I arrived at the course on Tuesday at about 12.10 with the sole purpose of finding the bookie chosen by Carvills to hold the money. I spent 90 mins or so looking for him and couldn’t find him. I asked several other bookies in Tatts if they knew him – most of them did but didn’t know where he was.

As far as I was concerned the bet stood – and I lost.

I now get back to my computer and have a PM from Carvills saying that If I have not matched his bet with his bookie then as far as he is concerned the bet was off. This was PMd to me on the day of the Arkle.

I only read Carvills’ PM today as I’ve only just returned from my trip. I immediaterly responded and told him that as far as I was concerned the bet stood and I’m more than happy to pay if he gives me the appropriate details.

Technically speaking I don’t have to because he changed the terms of the bet but when the Demon set off against Missed That my understanding was that we had a bet and if I’d won I would expect to be paid.

So Carvills, I gotta say I’m disappointed in your posting this thread without speaking to me first but perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised.

I don’t regard German G3s and G1s as equivalent to the British version – more like decent listed class. Just an opinion before you shout me down! :cheesy:
