When it comes to trainers whether it’s PN, Jonjo, or Nicky Henderson if the horse is right and the race is right there’s nothing between them

    .

Maybe not, but its getting them right thats the key

would also judge a trainer by how long he keeps horses interested and how well primed they are early in their career. For me PN and NH beat JJ hands down on both counts

As for thr jockeys, i tend a little towards glodikovas view (badly expressed as ever  ) that the influence of a jockey is a little overrated at times. Its natural to focus on them because they are ..well…there. But its the behind the scenes stuff that really wins races, just not so visible is it?

Its a strange time to pick for backhanded compliments towards PN given the superb recovery mission he performed on Denman and the seeming rejuvenation of Twist Magic (wasnt just the tactics and course wot won it i believe) Can name a few trainers who would have had the (awful) "genius" tag thrown over them for such feats

Ruby is superb though…must be said

Totally agree there with the best trainers in Nicholls & Henderson, the stats speak for themselves.

John Jo’s horses don’t seem to be performing the way
they did in the past & I’m always wary of backing horses trained by him, unless ofcourse McCoy’s on board.

When it comes to trainers whether it’s PN, Jonjo, or Nicky Henderson if the horse is right and the race is right there’s nothing between them. my friend says he’s not a fan of Jonjo but I’m damn sure if he can win a race at Cheltnham with the likes of Butler’s Cabin then he sure as hell could win a Gold Cup with a horse like Kauto Star.

I happen to think Ruby is the best jockey I’ve ever laid eyes on but I wouldn’t give a hoot if AP replaced him on a horse I had backed. If someone says they think AP is better I’m not going to argue with them as there simply isn’t enough between them and no one could win that argument.

If Denman had moved to Jonjo’s or Nicky Henderson’s before the Hennessy I’d still have backed him to win.

My fav trainer happens to be Nicky Henderson but PN is the man who has ruled the roost for the past few years.

Damn sure anything he trains would do just as well at Nicky’s though.

Nicky has always had the knack of getting good horses and keeping them that way and will always be in the top drawer.

Jonjo has had a fair bit less to work with than Nicky over the years but give the man a dog and he’ll win a race with it and it’s a lot harder to win a race with bad one than it is with a good .one

PN is a mystery he just keeps coming up with the best best of the best. Much of it is down to his early successes and him making the best of it by buying the right stock He’ll be a hard man to displace as Martin Pipe was. Once you have then cuing up to give you money to spend it makes the job much easier. Keeping them is the hard bit but PN gets results and for now can’t be faulted.

To be honest they are all excellent at what they do and none of the names mentioned would put me off backing a horse if I fancied him with the exception of Alan King who I can never seem to catch at the right tome. At least not since Katchit won the CH. But that’s not him it’s me.

So for me it’s not who installs confidence that counts as all mentioned do, it’s the ones you look at and when you see their names next to a horse you start worrying.

    Very informative indeed Fist.

Apparently Denman & Kauto Star eat a ton of carrots & could be one of the reasons why, Paul Nicholls has had so much success with these two great horses.

I’m very wary about John Jo’s horses at the present moment ………

    Todays win & place selection.

    13:40 FONTWELL CLASS 3 SELL. HURDLE 2M 4F SOFT

    ORCHARD KING 10.0 BACK | 2.56 E/WAY (3 PLACES)

Win & Place Adv. – Class
    Jockey Booking
    Stamina

Win & Place Disadv. – Weight
    Ground Conditions

Whilst I think the surface might be unsuitable I think the
selected horse has the stamina to cope & I expect the horse
to fight it out with Classic Chic. Reasonable odds of 10.0 to back
    & 2.56 e/way for Orchard King.

RED HOT DESERT 5.2 BACK (WIN ONLY)

    Win Adv. – Distance

I think the selected horse will fight it out with Sircozy &
5.2 to back offers reasonable value.

Same thinking as myself but I’m afraid this slog belonged to the older stayers with Present M’Lord and Newbay Bob fighting it out.

I was swaying whether or not to go with Newbay Bob ! It was quite clear that, Notabotheronme could’nt be bothered & Johnson new that, after 3 miles in the fog.

    Todays win & place selection.

    14:10 EXETER CLASS 3 H’CAP CHASE 4M HEAVY

    NOTABOTHERONME 8.2 BACK | 2.9 E.WAY (3 PLACES)

This is a real stamina test in the mist & I expect
the selected horse to fight it out with Peut Etre Sivola & Dancing Mist.

Today’s win only selection & not the
most original bet I’ve ever recommended.

    13:25 AYR CLASS 3 H’CAP CHASE 2M 4F SOFT

SKIPPERS BRIG BACK 2.44 (WIN ONLY)

    Win Adv. – Distance
    Ground Conditions
    Class
    Trainer Chase Win Record

    Win Disadv. – Weight

I think this is the stand out horse in this race & offers
good value at 2.44 to back. The only other horse that
will put in a serious challenge is Extalar.

    Today’s win & place selection.

    14:40 HEREFORD CLASS 4 H’CAP HURDLE 2M 4F SOFT

    HEARTY DOVE 13.0 BACK | 3.25 E/WAY (4 PLACES)

Win & Place Adv. – Ground Conditions
    Distance
    Weight
    Jockey Booking

Win & Place Disadv. – Days since last race
    Trainer e/way record

Very tricky race to dissect, but I think with certain
things in the horse’s favour, I think 13.0 to back &
    3.25 e/way represent’s good value.

    Today’s win only selection.

    16:10 WOLVERHAMPTON CLASS 5 2M STD

FOLLOW THE DREAM BACK 3.25 (WIN ONLY)

    Win Adv. – Weight
    Distance
    Recent Form

    Win Disadv. – Class ?
    Trainer Course Form
    " " " Overall Win Form

I think the odds should be less than what they
are for Follow The Dream, so at 3.25 win only,
    Is today’s value bet.

This guy is an absolute gem of a man
& a top trainer to boot.

He certainly is emerging as a top trainer,
to be mentioned alongide the Nicholl, Henderson,
King, O’Neill & Hobbs of the jumping world &
    the pride of wales.

    Mark :D

Are you his father or brother?

Promising young trainer he may be, but as yet his achievements do not entitle him to be mentioned alongside any of these names.

I do an 80/20 bet when Tim Vaughan’s horse
is in a chase & especially when it appears
at Fakenham or Bangor & know I’m
not related to him & never met the bloke.

    14:30 UTTOXETER CLASS 5 H’CAP CHASE 2M 6F HEAVY

Win & Place Adv. – Class

I think this horse represents a reasonable value bet
at 7.8 to back & 2.44 e/way. My only concern is the
    extra weight on heavy ground.

    15:55 CHEPSTOW 2M NHF CLASS 6 HEAVY

    MIST CHANCES BACK 14.5 | 3.7 E/WAY (3 PLACES)

Although my selected horse has’nt had a ride for
    247 days, I think 14.5 to back & 3.7 e/way
    represents good value.
