This horse must show something on the Newmarket gallops. I know he’s had his problems, one of the being a chipped bone I believe but you’d think he must be showing up to be brought back as a 5YO. Not only that he has been given entries in Grp1s over the past few months. Admittedly he’s not taken any of them up.

I’ll give him that run, he should come on for it, but I can’t help but remember that run back on the Lingfield AW which was pretty dire.

Hoping that winning Express can improve for the extra furlong and come on for that run in the Nell Gwyn. Was beaten far enough but didn’t get the clearest of runs. Seemed to be going on at the finish although admittedly Hot Snap and Sky Lantern were both eased.

I’ve backed one that makes plenty of jumping mistakes. Don’t ask me why, wasn’t my greatest idea ever.

Hadrians Approach – I thought could have gone closer in the RSA but for jumping errors. Just as many obstacles to be jumped in front of him here so I hope he’s been spending plenty of time in the schooling field.

I’m not even sure he’s going to go for it, he’s in a Novice Chase at Cheltenham this week and also got an entry at Punchestown.

Love this race and been very lucky with my wagers in it too. Always Waining is a star and I’ve backed him each time to do the business. With him defecting to the National I spotted up the Nicky Henderson plot job.

My run has to end. I just wish I had as much luck with the big one itself!

I’ve taken a nice price on Winning Express. Impressed over sprint trips as a 2YO and think she was unlucky to only find Rhosdhu Queen too good on her final start.

The stamina is a question mark but I think she will definitely get 7f, just a question of what happens coming out of that dip at HQ.

I’d be laying Silviniaco Conti, Hurricane Fly and My Tent or Yours. Think 2 of the 3 will definitely get beat.

I’m interested to see Peddlers Cross over this 3m. Not saying he will win but it is wide open. Won the Neptune back in 2010. Maybe he’s a stayer and 2m was a bit on the sharp side??

Not really given this a great deal of thought yet, but, Spirit Son for a start.

I don’t know you so you may be being clever but if your not then…

Its very doubtful Spirit Son will race again after the illness he’s had. Its not really been very well reported apart from a couple of pieces in the RP so you may not be aware but he was struck down with a virus that attacks the nervous system. He was found lying in his box unable to get up and when xrayed was found to have fractured vertebrae

I hadn’t heard anything bad regarding the horse.

However, thank you for your information, I have now just been brought up to speed regarding the virus he had any also the fractures to his vertebrae.

As you have stated, not sure if he will race again, but an amazing story of human care and determination, in addition to strength and courage from the horse.

I wish him all the best, and well done to connections for their amazing efforts with the horse.

    I agree.

Its a shame because Spirit Son although a talking horse I think was going straight to the top. I fancied him for this seasons Champion Hurdle if NH was able to get him there in 1 piece. This news pretty much rules that out although I will be keeping a close eye on things because connections aren’t ruling anything in or out, and Spirit Son has proved to be a fighter so far, so who knows how far the recovery can go.

Its a load of old balls as usual Last week at Stratford we lost the race with Catch The Fire for weighing in at the exact same differential of one and a half pound. There was no weightcloth. Donal had lost the difference during the race having had a very tough ride . We lost the EW bets, the place money, Bowen was fined £500 and poor old Donal punished as well. You couldnt make it up
Did you hear the steward admitting the scales are not exactly correct anyway on At the Races. Only to the neares half pound

    Absolute disgrace Roddy.

Punishment has to be consistent across the board. Catch The Fire needed a lot of riding and easy to envisage Donal losing 1.5 lb during the race. Was a warm day. Hard work for Donal and he didn’t give up the ghost, ended up with Catch The Fire finishing very well.

Based on the punishment handed out to Catch The Fire and connections, the same had to be given to Green To Gold and connections. Not really a question of stewards discretion in my opinion. This is coming from a Manchester United supporter who follows Peter Bowens horses with interest!

Frankels stablemate World Domination turned out to be not very good after all the talk and the hype. I didn’t think the Dante run was that bad but what has happened since hard to explain.

Looking on Sir Henry’s website I can’t see the horse listed. Probably been retired as a maiden winner.

For you, Rich… i shall reveal all.

Now, before we get started i wanna just say that there MIGHT be a chance that one or two horses might slip through the net. Maybe i didn’t check their form properly or misread something etc, but this very formula has produced the winner for me for the last two years and after doing further revision found that it fits the bill almost perfectly for every winner since 1989! I say almost perfectly, but on one or two instances there is just one thing missing (i.e Miinnehoma having only two runs in the season or Red Marauder not winning a 25f chase – but considering the ground, these are anomaly years anyway  )

Chuck everything that hasn’t won a chase of at least 25f.
Chuck everything that hasn’t had at least 3 runs during the season.
Take out horses under 8 years old

Chuck anything that hasn’t placed in the first three at least once in their last 3 runs

Must have had a run in Feburary or March.
Look for a horse who has less than 5 falls in their career
Chuck anything that didn’t win a chase as a novice
Look for a horse with 10 or more chase starts

Yeah i know it’s all a big stat rage, but hey… facts don’t lie. And i’m a stats person anyway. I’ll probably go back over the entries at the end of the month just to make sure 8)

Nothing wrong with trends Peter if they help you narrow the field down to a shortlist. The only one I’d query I have bolded. Trainers now often run over inadequate trips or over hurdles to protect the chase mark and keep the horse on the go.

I think the National may go to a Welsh trainer this year. I think Cappa Bleu has an outstanding chance. I like Always Waining (backed him for the Topham)but worry about the 4 1/2 miles and just hope he gets home safe.

I have been impressed by Sir Johnson, particularly that weight carrying performance in the Aintree bumper. The form of that race has worked out well but I can’t help but feel that the horse will need the race on Wednesday. Saying all that, I’ve been surprised with the recent support. I thought 25s was fair and wouldn’t go in at 16s.

Personally I’m going to be looking at having a decent bet on it in the Aintree bumper should the horse go there. There will be much more in Sir Johnsons favour in a few weeks time.

Domination of Ffos Las tonight with that 4 timer. Aintree seems a long time ago now.

Congrats Roddy on the double. Got some nice young horses in Call Me Bill, Whereveryougoigo and Mike Towey. Quattrocento jumping much better now too. Hope to see that one win more races off the sort of mark now.

Some tasty bets landed on the bumper horse too
