Just read he broke down after the line.
The injury was sustained at the first fence, Which was the last in the back straight.
13 years old very sad, deserved a long and happy retirement.
Just seen it. Absolutely brutal fall, One of the worst I’ve seen in a while.
Completely agree, no need for them at all.
Article from 2008 with Jonjo O’Neill describing the fatal injury caused by these jumps which is exactly what happened today.
“It seems to me, the horse doesn’t know what he’s jumping until he’s taking off,” said O’Neill, “and then he has to stretch and puts extra strength into it, and that’s what leads to these broken backs. I lost a very good horse up at Ayr years ago, and another at Catterick. I’d fill ’em all in.”

Looked to have happened on the all weather bend as he was pulling up.
All we can do is compare him to other commentators, and for me he’s poor.
Thommo is another one, 17:35 at Newcastle last night not a single mention of insurplus breaking down mid race.
He is absolutely awful, Misses more than Aussie Jim.
It was announced on Itv that he injured himself while running loose I’m guessing from the fall
Entirely possible. But he was clearly fragile with plenty of long absences off the track. His latest runs very poor, Being asked to lug 10lb more than the next horse, I think he’s given all he had and deserved a happy retirement.
I’ll leave that one to the judge
Scherzando last night at Dundalk too
Thank you
Thanks for the info
At least they are transparent unlike the BHA or racecourses in GB, dread to think of the amount of deaths that are brushed under the carpet.
Example being Kaymar who fell this year at Fontwell or Thankq who “lost its action” at Newcastle in February. Both have not run since, been entered into races or appear on the trainer’s websites. Also nothing on the racing post database or anywhere else I can see. Both could be alive and well but I very much doubt it
Where do you get your information regarding the Irish deaths? Do HRI publish a list?
The race result for Jimmy’s sister must have been updated in the last few days as it wasn’t reported initially or when I checked around a week later.
