If he was “absolutely hyper” before the off to the point he needed washing off why wasn’t he scratched from the race?

Was a horrible fall, was instant from the clip I saw.

He was obviously a very fragile horse lots of very long breaks between races, 783 days off and a 12 year old who’s done quite well for his owner over the years might have earned him a nice retirement.

    “12 years old”
Yes…it was a veteran’s chase. Won last year by the 13 year old My Manekineko and the year before that by the 14 year old Kruzhlinen.

Both had shown decent form before the wins, I’m not against older horses racing that’s not what I’ve said.

You appear to make a judgement based on the fact that he hadn’t completed in it’s last four races………..does that mean any other horse that hasn’t completed in their last four races should also be denied a run?

What about a seven year old that hasn’t completed in their last four, no racing either?

No I don’t think 4 non finishes means that they shouldn’t be able to run. Each horse should be assessed on its own merits, but more consideration should be given to an older horse that has more letters than numbers in its form, Especially like the 2 I’ve already mentioned that have repeated poor efforts.

Regal Encore is one I’ve already mentioned in another thread, 15 years old and shown nothing for a long time, do you believe the right thing for the horse is to continue on?

Glencoe hadn’t completed a single race this season. PU, PU, PU….I didn’t read anything from you regarding him.

    Isn’t this thread about him?

For me him and Midnight Maestro, should have called it a day by now. You don’t have to agree but I’m sure there’s plenty that do.

12 years old, hadn’t completed in his last 4 races. Another one that could have been avoided

Clearly the 420 grand he’s won the owners isn’t enough, hasn’t shown a thing in 15 months but let’s send him out in a class 3 as a 40/1 shot.

The trainer and owners know best though :good:

All this talk about the whip not hurting by the tv presenters/pundits and I’m yet to see someone taking 7 strikes across the arse to prove it?

I know horses are much bigger and have thicker skin but it would go along way to proving this narrative that it doesn’t hurt the horse.

She’s 12 years old and shown absolutely nothing in the last year, no need to keep going on it’s a bad look for the sport.

What if the 15 year old Regal Encore (another horse who’s shown nothing for a year) was fatally injured in his fall on Saturday? The Daily mail and BBC would have had a field day, it’s only a matter of time before the end of national hunt racing in this country but things like this will accelerate it.

    From David Pipes website:

Al Roc pulled up at Doncaster on Friday and we made the decision after the race to retire him. We have only had the eleven year old a year but he has been fantastic for us and won four races and over £45,000 in prize money in that time. He has won twelve races in a brilliant career and over £430,000 in lifetime earnings. ‘Alan’ as he is affectionately known as in the yard is a lovely character with a great attitude and his owners, Fergus and Judith Wilson have gifted him to Bex who looks after him at Pond House and adores him. He will live not far from the yard and have a very happy forever home as a horse of leisure.
