Not for the first time it’s Justanotherbottle who jumps out at me straight away. I knows he’s flying high in the weights, but he’s as good as ever, and I’m itching to take that 33’s. Unfortunately though he’s unpredictable at the start, and big price or not, all academic if he doesn’t play ball on the day. I’ll consider him after Final Decs.

The one I’m going to bet early is Bielsa. Ayr Gold Cup winner last term, and nothing wrong with his efforts so far this year. I thought 25’s really fair for a consistent type like him, who’s used to big fields like this, and on a fair mark too.

    Bielsa 25’s

The best-price over-round on the Stewards’ Cup today is 140%, 1.42% a runner.

Individual firms’ margins will be far higher.

Extended place terms are killing the win odds.

At Betfair Exchange it’s currently 103.9%.

No Best Odds Guaranteed, but the win value is considerably better.

Agree ID, this is getting ridiculous. Hills is paying 8 places each way on this race. That is inevitably going to mean punters will be ripped off in the win market.

I like betting each way, especially in big field handicaps. However, I would much rather see the bookmakers bet to conventional place terms.

I can possibly understand 5 places – but 8 is far too much and is not in the best interests of punters.

CAS- I’d rather have a horse I fancy e/w finish eighth at 20-1 and collect something than fifth at 33-1 under conventional terms and win sod all.

    Mob handed here.
Only bets today, in this race, no other bets today, as away in Spain with fam.
Summerghand, Tabdeed and Saint Lawrence all win only.
Best of luck to all :good:

Glad – if it won you would be paid at 20/1 when you know it should have been a 33/1 chance.

Each to their own, but bookmakers set each-way terms and they set them in their favour.

I’ve just seen a horse 18/1 eight places which is 46 to win on the exchange.

Win only so much better value in the long run, and in these big handicaps there is massive win value on the machine compared to the books.

Which is why you place a separate win bet on at best odds. 😉

I believe ID’s hit the nail on the head as with extended places bookies are sneakily reducing their liabilities overall while giving the impression of doing the average punter a favour by increasing the chance of a return but at reduced odds.
    good luck to all

My Glorious Goodwood performance this year has been woeful.

    Inver Park 9-1

Impressive at Ascot over 7f, led a furlong out, won at 6f before that. Give it a go.
