If there turns out to be a bumper entry for the Southwell farce, could he be balloted out ?

Given they wouldn’t have to wait a lot longer for the turf flat season, the Champion Hurdle must still be the intention.

I agree that Peso was badly outpaced early but had got back to a deficit that didn’t warrant pulling up at the stage he went lame.

Marsh Wren who did well in mares’ chases for Stuart Edmunds has been retired after picking up an injury.

He’s been down from the pinnacle for a fair while. Since the Gold Cup years he had enough horses to sustain him at the premier end of things. Horses like Silviniaco Conti , Clan Des Obeaux, Frodon.

That flow of good horses has come to an abrupt halt with once good prospects like Stay Away Fay, Gellino Bello etc barely able to complete a race anymore.

Obviously he’s had rotten luck with two of the leading lights this season but he doesn’t seem to have much ammunition at a middling level either.
A protege, Anthony Honeyball seems to have a lot more runners in feature handicap chases for instance.

Perhaps trying to vie with the best from Ireland has ripped out the underbelly of developing good handicappers.

I enjoy some of his bellicose nature and hope he does enjoy some success for a while. I think having slipped a bit he is unlikely to regather pre eminence.

Good to see Andrew Brooks staying loyal though🙂.

Fashions change and it seems many want younger trainers hence a lot of this dual licence nonsense.

The west country took over the mantle of leading jumps yards from Lambourn some decades back. It seems to be gravitating to Warwickshire now. I wonder if Ditcheat, possibly not the most attractive of yards is appealing enough for prospective owners. Henderson has a big advantage over Paul with Seven Barrows there. That said, Henderson has been on the skids for years apart from a few wayward and bizarrely campaigned superstars.

I’ve not been completely sold on Cobden but he’s done enough to suggest he is better than most. He seems to have a lot of self belief and the ability to get over what might be thought a poor ride or a disappointment. Clearly the loss of Kalif du Berlais did get to him but that would have been a gut wrencher for the whole team.

He could end up riding a lot of moderate horses in the job but plenty of opportunities on the big days which he’s been a bit short of lately.

Didn’t seem a race to form any strong opinions about the outcome. Road Exile looked three hands taller than Free Spirit.

The name should be Brixson. Hadn’t seen today’s racing and sorry to see this. He was one I intended to follow. Half brother to some useful horses, O’Connell, Terresita and Tara’s Halls who was second in the race following Brixson’s sad demise.

I think Aintree has proved itself an unsuitable venue for a premier meeting at this time of year.

I’d quite like to have made a trip there in recent years but I’m not going to do weekends or Christmas. After sorting through their fixtures that leaves Mondays only for jumping. Shameful and probably deliberate.

A subject area which most UC teams seem to struggle with is British Geography. Hopeless in the main.

A repeat of The Chase the other day had a multi option question on top weight now carried in the Grand National. Both the contestant and Jenny Ryan chose wrongly. Jenny chose 10-10 and aired her knowledge further by saying a punter friend of hers advised always to go for a horse carrying a single figure weight. (Less than 10 stone). Ignorance is not limited to air heads.
