Really can’t believe that keeping the status quo was dragging down Haydock.
Look at some of the things that Haydock has going for it.
A huge potential customer base, terrific road access, good viewing facilities, high quality racing at some NH meetings.
An innovative Racecourse Management Team should have been able to develop those factors into something that the public would want to see but they took the lazy (IMO) option and cut costs at the expense of the good of NH racing.Very sad.
"there’s a light on…"
Classic.

It’s like with Thommo.
The lights are on but nobody’s home.
But that’s my point Pete, Mayweather can make 147 easy, so to me it’s all the more impressive that he could stop De La Hoya in his tracks at 154 and make him do a little dance.
But I have to admit after watching the press conferences and the start of the program 24/7 I’m starting to have a bit more hope in Hatton, Mayweather is a great fighter but very immature and wears his heart on his sleeve, he also has a lot of baggage with his father and uncle and one day that will catch up with him in the ring, hopefully against Hatton

Not disagreeing with you RT. Mayweather fought a couple of weights above his recent minimum vs. De La Hoya and was able to punch the weight, tho’ he wouldn’t have got the decision every time with different judges.
My point is that Ricky also CAN be effective at 147 or even 154 if his training is right and he fears the opponent enough to be at his best. We just don’t have the proof in the ring yet.
It’s rare that a Brit can be fancied to beat a technically superior Yank with ringcraft and smarts but this could just be the time for that to happen.I have a slight connection with the Hatton camp as I sometimes bring in the wheelie-bin for the mother of Ricky’s trainer Billy Graham. She lives next door but one from me. Fame at last

Its at 147 and Mayweather rocked De La Hoya at 154

Agreed, but Mayweather is no more a natural 154 than Hatton is. I think that 147 suits both men as both can do the weight comfortably.
I know that Hatton was not too impressive in his only other 147 outing (Collazo) but he was not mentally as sharp as he will be for this one and I think that he will surprise many. Whether it’s enough to win the fight against a class act like Mayweather, time will tell.
It’s not unthinkable that can do it, though. Nobody is unbeatable. Remember Curry v Honeyghan?
It will be interesting to see how Ricky handles the build up to his first Super Fight in the USA.
All being equal I think this will be an intriguing fight with the clash in styles making for a great spectacle. Mayweather is not just going to be able to run and pick Ricky off as he gets tired and frustrated.
Ricky is a master of cornering his prey and forcing them into a duel. Hatton is a pretty dirty fighter and will use any and every trick to get the initiative.I think that it’s likely to go to the scorecards but it will be a war of attrition and whoever wins will deserve it.
I imagine Cotto will be waiting in the wings hoping to knock over the shell of whoever triumphs, as it will greatly age both of these fighters.I’ve not bought a PPV for many years but will get this one.
My favourite Thommo moment was when he was calling a race at Redcar (or could have Newcastle) for C4 and a bemused old man ducked under the rails and started to very slowly walk across the course in front of the advancing group of runners.
Thommo said something like "What’s that Old Codger doing? He’s gonna get…Oh, that was close" as the man realised the danger at the last moment and took evasive action.
Could have been a tragic incident but luckily all ended well.
I also hate when Jim (Timeform) McGrath demeans horses with "he beat trees" and "he beat rubbish".
Ah. You’ll not have liked me commiting "he beat zombies / camels" (but never "zombie camels", curiously) to print many times either, then…

If there’s some humour in it then no problem, but I don’t detect that in Jim’s comments.
Some GG irritations (I normally like him BTW).
As mentioned before
"he’s gone 5-6-7-8-9 lengths clear". Is this to prove that he successfully completed his 4 years old Maths Test? Also, "sitting chilly".
OK when Tom Durkin says it but sounds naff in an English accent.and at one time he decided to replace "they’re off" with "race away".

Yep, a 6 match ban was the verdict, harsh but thats Uefa for you these days.
Some people were crying out for a 10 game ban and a months wages docked…

Brown trained with the Scotland squad yesterday too, the tackle didn’t seem to have any lasting effect.
I’m wondering now if Binya would’ve have got a jail sentence had he broken Brown’s leg

It will be interesting to watch tackles in future games now, this could get out of hand.
I thought a harsher sentence was appropriate, you thought that the sentence was plenty harsh enough. We’ll have to agree to differ there.
Surely given what has happened in the rugby world and also I think in Scottish football in the past the day a custodial sentence is handed out to a "successful" tackle of that type is not far away?BTW
I resisted gloating when Spencer/Sanders TIED the J Champ.Did not spot any acknowledgement of your error there
RIP to this beautiful horse.
I always watch big chases from Cheltenham through my fingers, especially from the top of the hill on the last circuit onwards. So many high speed falls and tiring horses.
I’d like to be a stallion in my prime rolling in the hay with Lydia Hislop on hand, the TV cameras rolling and the film shown late night on Racing UK the next day.
However, I’m more like a leggy gelding who has his moments but will never amount to very much

Yeah, I agree that Cotto on points is most likely, but I’m not really a short odds punter. Not rich enough to make it fun

I’m giving Haye the swerve as I lost a few quid the last time I took on Mormeck (with Wayne Braithwaite) and I fear DH may have a glass jaw
I’d love the Championship to be a tie. Neither deserves to lose in my book.
It can’t end in a tie as it would then go onto who has ridden the most 2nd’s.
I’d like to see Spencer win it to be honest.
I must admit that I don’t know the rules regarding ties in the title these days, I just remember the Scudamore/Francome 81/82 title which was officially a tie and I would like to see the same again, but in these ultra-competitive times….

Seems a little odd to me to revert a champion chaser back to timber permanantly, possibly even unprecedented?
Hi PC and welcome to TRF from another relative noob.
I tried to think of another champion chaser who went back to hurdling. I think that there probably are a few but one that comes to mind for me is 78 Gold Cup winner Midnight Court.
from memory I think he missed some time after the race and when he returned it was mostly as a long distance hurdler. I think he won the Long Walk at Ascot, so he had some success at it. He may have had a couple more Chases as well but he was mostly a hurdler after his absence.Be interesting to see what happens in the M 4.00.
Spencer gets off Spinning (now Seb’s mount) who we won on last time out to ride Crocodile Bay who he has not ridden this season. We’ll see if he’s made the right choice later.

, perhaps they thought the Americans wouldn’t fancy a punt?
They’d rather go for it on 4th.

Are there still jump races held at Belmont Park?
I remember seeing the fences while watching the BC meeting in the past but have never seen them in use.
Have seen a few races on satellite TV from Pau in France. I remember seeing Pak Jack running there before his transfer to UK and placings in National and Aintree Foxhunters.
