After 22 years of living & breathing racing, I was prepared to give up on Flat racing if this appeal had succeeded.
November 8, 2007 at 09:38 #123574I quite agree, WW, to me it was a straightforward decision and the objectors should have lost their deposit.

November 8, 2007 at 10:15 #123580Pity the two ride for trainers who run horses at the wrong distance etc (and other sculduggery) who brought Spencer here form Ireland and is known to have a punt?…….Go Figure!
November 8, 2007 at 10:42 #123587Shirley, you’re not referring to Mr. B.Curley!!!!!

November 8, 2007 at 11:12 #123592Does anyone think, like me, that the 4/5 about winning the title for Spencer looks massive.
He has some very strong rides today, including 4 or 5 at short odds. Sanders only has 3 rides, and while they are fav or close to fav, I will be amazed if he is not trailing after today.
Spencer could easily have 2, or even 3 or 4 winners today – and if that’s the case, then 4/5 will quickly turn into 1/6.
As much as I would love Seb to win, from a financial point of view, I think Spencer is overpriced at 4/5.
On a seperate note, did anyone understand where Eddery was coming form today. He said that he thinks Spencer will win because he is more experienced. More experienced at what? Riding in the last 3 days of the season! I’m sure Seb has done that also. I hardly think, after 227 days or whatever it is, and 185 wins a piece, that experience will be the deciding factor – more the book of rides they have, with Spencer arguably having the stronger.

November 8, 2007 at 11:46 #123596I’d wait until you know for sure he’s arrived at Musselburgh before having a bet – high winds and rain may not be ideal for a light plane landing!

November 8, 2007 at 11:51 #123598Spencer’s been trading at around 1/2 on Betfair since the result of the appeal was known…..where is this 4/5 Mike???

It ws quoted on Sky Sports News about an hour ago, but as they repeat the stories every hour I dare say the graphic with the 4/5 was before the result of the appeal because you’re right, the 4/5 has well gone. Though it looked good

I won’t be going in at 1/2 now, and I can turn my attentions back to cheering on Seb.
Sorry if I misinformed anyone.

November 8, 2007 at 19:44 #123652Glad I missed the 4/5 because I could have well got my fingers burnt the way things are going.
It’s a toin coss now in my opinion. Something to watch and not have a bet on.

November 9, 2007 at 10:26 #123734Would tend to agree Jim, but this is what I thought yesterday
.I’m sticking by my guns, I’m not going to have a bet despite being very tempted to weigh in on Spencer. My heart would like to see Sanders win so it would be foolish of me to back against him.

November 9, 2007 at 11:07 #123744One things for certain, all those those horses will know they were racing today.
November 9, 2007 at 11:15 #123749Be interesting to see what happens in the M 4.00.
Spencer gets off Spinning (now Seb’s mount) who we won on last time out to ride Crocodile Bay who he has not ridden this season. We’ll see if he’s made the right choice later.
I’d love the Championship to be a tie. Neither deserves to lose in my book.
November 9, 2007 at 11:17 #123750It certainly adds some interest to the end of the flat season and provides an interesting distraction from the "real" racing

Like Mikky I would like to see Seb win the title – it would make a change for one of the "lesser" jockeys to win it. Before anyone shoots me down I do not mean "lesser" in any derogatory manner, I mean it in the context that he is not one of the household name riders.
November 9, 2007 at 11:45 #123755I’d love the Championship to be a tie. Neither deserves to lose in my book.
It can’t end in a tie as it would then go onto who has ridden the most 2nd’s.
I’d like to see Spencer win it to be honest.

I must admit that I don’t know the rules regarding ties in the title these days, I just remember the Scudamore/Francome 81/82 title which was officially a tie and I would like to see the same again, but in these ultra-competitive times….
November 9, 2007 at 12:26 #123768If they ride the same number of winners, they share the title.
Seconds don’t count, prize money doesn’t count, strike rate doesn’t count, there’s no tie breaker.
