A hefty each way double on Master Oats (Welsh National), and Barton Bank (King George) in the mid 90s.

Master Oats of course won, and Barton Bank had his infamous last fence ‘unseated rider’ when clear.

Still hurts to this day. It would have been my biggest win of all time.

Clearly the correct decision today, however I’m a little dissapointed that the 2 days won’t start with their ‘traditional’ opening races, the Ballymore (Sun Alliance) Novices Hurdle tomorrow, and the Triumph Hurdle on Friday.

The 4m plodders race on Thursday, and the new mares only race on Friday don’t really have the same ‘oomph’ about them. A muted roar?

Maybe that’s the old-fart traditionalist in me. :)

Fist, the Gallagher Gold Cup victory of Arkle’s has been shown. It also appears on the Arkle Video "Portrait of a Legend" although not in its entirety.

Unfortunately in the 60s Tape was very expensive so the broadcasters used to tape over programmes they thought had no historical value rather than but new tape for every broadcast.

The worst example of this is Flyingbolt – a few seconds of his Massey Ferguson victory are all that remain of his Chasing exploits on film. And these few seconds dont even show the finish!

The exploits of Flyingbolt in the Champion Chase and Champion Hurdle on consecutive days are both on the DVD I mentioned earlier in this thread.

There is a Cheltenham Hall of Fame 3 pack DVD, that covers all the festivals going way back to the Arkle era, and upto recent years.

    Very good indeed.

I think I got it from either the Racing Post shop or Amazon.

Certainly his creditability as a betting expert is fair game. However, I’m not sure why, on the day when a man is declared bankrupt, comments such as these are necessary:

Thought he lived with his mum too? Not saying theres anything wrong with that…but have the police taken away his computer?

There are rumours that a remake of Psycho is being made, with Angus as Norman Bates

Childish, unnecessary and in pretty poor taste.

As I’ve stated before, this place has recently turned into the refugee forum for all those banned from Betfair’s forum.

You can watch ATR live online for £10 per month via their website.

RUK don’t allow overseas users to use their online service live as of yet. So your best option is listen to live commentary on William Hill Radio via the web, and watch the RUK race replays via the Racing Post website for 20 pence per race, or £15 per month unlimited (useful, if like me you use race replays as part of your form studying). The replays are usually available within an hour of the race being run.

    Hope that helps.

What a truly abysmal idea for a game.

Darts, fence bombs, and stun guns. Nice.

The game is on a Cheltenham Festival website, so why not instead make the game one in which you can race in all the races at the festival (against the real horses entered), instead of this brainless nonsense?

Newmill has plenty of form to suggest he is effective on soft/heavy ground. I think your outburst against Charlie D is OTT there Pegwell Bay.

    DJ,

I do not dispute that Newmill is effective on soft/heavy, but he has always been below his best form on it, by some way.

Didn’t Newmill (comprehensively) beat Macs Joy over hurdles, and run a close third to Nickname/Kicking, on heavy ground, brainbox?

If you think Newmill’s defeat of (a below form) Mac’s Joy on heavy ground was Newmill’s best hurdles run, then you are about as deluded as Charlie D, by around 8lbs – brainbox.

And if you think the race won by Nickname was anything to get excited about, see above. Again, it was way below Newmill’s best, over fences.

I suppose you think Kicking King put up a performance equalling his Gold Cup and King George wins in the same race too?

Newmill beaten before he was brought down – THEY knew

    Who ‘knew’ brainbox?

I ‘knew’ he showed by far his best form in the past on good ground.

Why on earth should he have done so again on heavy today?

He drifted because of the ground. It is all in the form book, if you know how to read it. I am sick and tired of idiots like you trying to make out every race is bent, because a favourite (backed by mugs) loses, under conditions that do not suit it!

It isn’t rocket science, Charlie D (minus).

Yes, why doesn’t the scroll bar work in these situations? (It should do, and does on other forums I frequent, when the same problem arises).

Yet another stupid and unnecessary race title change for today:

The Gr.1 Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase is now…

The Gr.1 totesport.com Challengers Novices’ Chase.

    :x

As far as I know, this race has been named the ‘Scilly Isles’ for at least the past 15 to 20 years (as long as I’ve been betting on horses), so why change it now – especially with it being a Grade 1 race? Why couldn’t it simply be named:

The Gr.1 totesport.com Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase

    :?:

    Bunch of idiots!

When you go to the toilet for a King Richard III (with the turtle’s head about to pop out), and whoever was in there last used the last of the toilet roll….
