I think Reliable Man could be very interesting. Incredibly progressive, solid pedigree, will be a great 3yo contender.

Also it seems that Workforce connections are ducking a lot of clashes (first the Tatts Gold Cup, now the PoW). It could be the wisdom and nurturing genius of Stoute at work, but I feel like you shouldn’t need to nurture a Derby/Arc-winning horse who is now 4yo that much. I am cooling significantly on his KG/Arc chances.

the KG is the 2nd best 12f race in Europe

Don’t agree. Top 2 12f races in Europe are the Arc and the Derby. Unless you mean weight for age.

I am really not sure SYT will even make it to the Arc.

Coolmore already have 2 strong Arc contenders in SNA and Pour Moi. Fabre is a genius with the Arc, so I am sure Pour Moi will be greenlighted for the Arc. Since FAG has been chosen to go the stamina route (Gold Cup), you have to assume that SNA will stick to the mile-and-a-half route, and so also go for the Arc. And so it may be decided to keep SYT to 10f even in the autumn for the Irish Champion & Champion Stakes.

Not only does Coolmore have multiple options, so does the Aga Khan: Sarafina, Bekhabad and now Baraan (what a finish…if they can get him out of the stalls, 12f will be a cinch).

Reliable Man won the Jockey Club on this 3rd start (!!!!) and his pedigree is only going to improve him with time and distance. He has ARD feeling bullish enough to go for the King George.

And then the French fillies, with their weight allowances, are looking delicious, led by Galikova and Golden Lilac.

I certainly don’t think it is wise to start backing SYT from now.

I agree that SYT is a top horse, but the disparity in pricing between him and Planteur doesn’t seem right. Bookmakers often shorten a runner simply because it is an AOB horse, and are often absurdly long on quality French horses.

Personally can’t decide between SYT & Planteur, both seem excellent and spot-on for this race, but if I were betting on the race, only one of these horses has value.

Astounded that Indian Days is priced with Clowance. And 8/1 for Dandino? Both are value for e/w. SNA is WAY WAY too short.

It is quite unusual for the Aga Khan to keep a 4yo mare in training

Not really. There have been plenty, both G1 winners (Darjina, Mandesha, Shalanaya, Daryakana – latter 3 all kept with the idea of going for the Arc) as well as stakes performers (Shemima, Katiyra, Winkle, Shemiyla, Ashalanda). Even this season, there are a couple of other 4yo fillies in training (Zarebiya with Oxx, Shamanova with ARD).

It does seem that Sarafina has one of the best chances of landing the Arc out of all those older fillies, including Mandesha. On the other hand, this year is shaping up to have a very strong Arc field: last year’s 1234 (Workforce, Nakayama Festa, Sarafina, Behkabad) along with Snow Fairy, So You Think, Rewilding, St. Nicholas Abbey and whatever Derby/Oaks/GP de Paris winners emerge in the next few weeks. Just so many strong contenders even without the 3yos.

Behkabad makes his seasonal reappearance in a G2 on the Jockey Club card this Sunday. His odds for the King George could change dramatically after that run.

Zarkava, your findings on massive numbers of high-quality Darley mares with late folaing dates really suggests that operation doesn’t know the value of money. It’s really criminal the way they throw money at buying up quality horses and then let them fritter away without often even getting another run. HOW IN THE WORLD do they manage to injure SO MANY horses. Clearly they take the same lackadaisical approach to covers and breeding decisions.

On your puzzling over "Why Dr Fong?" you have to remember that there is a strong tendency towards sire diversity in that operation. Before Darjina and your namesake, there was only Zenda to recommend anyone sending their mares to Zamindar. Similarly, some of the best offspring of Lomitas, Refuse to Bend, Desert Style, Grand Lodge etc have come from this tendency. Dr Fong had shown promise to this operation by producing Shamdinan (3rd Jockey Club, 1st Secretariat), and the 2 mares you mention are actually his aunt and grand-dam so there was some clear evidence that Dr Fong worked well in that lineage. Plus Sarafina’s half-brother Sandagiyr just won a Listed race and looks to improve to Group level soon. Plus he is Northern Dancer free, and these days, adding that kind of outcross rigour adds a few pounds of appeal to any sire, I’d think.

I know her 2yo form doesn’t compare, but Emiyna’s Athasi win and Oxx connection give me a bit of a Ridgewood Pearl tingle. I do think Wild Wind is the best chance, and….I am wary of Misty for Me, but I would have Emiyna over LLashes.

Hopefully the trainers with multiple entries will have learned enough to keep a pacemaker in.

    Vermeer out.

While the 2 Hannon colts are worthy favourites, I am also keeping a beady eye on Worthadd. I think he could pull off a surprise.

    Actually his

    return

was fairly poor when 3rd to Unaccompanied and Cilium at the Curragh in early April.

And he didn’t really beat much today. Not to say he won’t go on to fulfill some of the promise shown, but to claim this could be the biggest race of the year is a little delusional. Do you know what happened at Newmarket last Saturday?

The French horse Gentoo has real volatility in his form, but if he fires on the day, he could win it.

Wonder of Wonders has an entry but Together doesn’t. Shows you the regard in which she’s held.

If Andre Fabre is entering an unraced filly in the Arc (Insoumise) then I reckon she is one to back whenever she makes her debut.

More difficult to discern trainer opinions for the 2 big yards (Ballyd & Godolph), since they have entered everything in their respective yards with 4 legs.

However, I can’t seem to be able to find any horse entered in the Prix D’Isphahan. Last years one two, Goldikova and Byword not entered? Unless…. do you know if the entries are out yet?

Entries for the Ispahan not out yet, supposed to happen on same day that Arc entries released: Wed 4th May.

To look up races, just go to main website then "Horseracing Professionals" then "Races" and "Races by date and by racecourse". Then choose the date in the top left and click search, and all meetings for that date show up. Click the track (e.g. Longchamp) and the races show up, click the race and see if there are horses entered yet.
