You can get 12s on Mo Farah as well. I’ll take that and the 10s on Ennis all day over McCoy.
Paul McCartney and Mel C are correct.
Never heard of it either, I got very lucky there.
This is a two parter and is a bit of a quiz chestnut, but it’s the best I can think of right now:
a) Who is the only person to have UK number one hits as a solo artist, in a duo, a trio, a quartet and a quintet
b) Who is the only
woman
to have UK number one hits as a solo artist, in a duo, a quartet and a quintet.
Is it anything to do with Patrick Allen, whose voice is used in Two Tribes? No idea why it might be him btw, possibly Orlando was a character he played?
Here are some the quizzes I posted on Sporcle, on Grand National Winners, National runners up, Gold Cup winners, Derby winners and champion jockeys. Apols they are not entirely up to date!

There’s plenty of US racing quizzes on there as well, if you seach for them. Enjoy!
Sporcle is a great site for quizzers and I’ve been using to revise for a TV quiz that I hope to record shortly…Anyhoo, I’ve posted a few racing quizzes on there under the name of Pearlyman. Will post the links up tomorrow for those interested.
Most prominent recycled name recently that I can think of is Crowded House – a decent Irish hurdler in the early 90s, came second in a Triumph, and of course its recent namesake. And a fine Kiwi music combo, of course.
Hellcatmudwrestler – I don’t know if the horse was around first, but I am sure it’s the name of a rather dodgy video series, that David Sullivan may have been involved in.
Think I’m giving away too much here…
No-one mentioned Pat and Paul Eddery? Both placed in the same Derby and must have competed together in three countries at least?
There are very few sports where first timers are asked to make their debut in a full blown arena with senior rules.
Did Wayne Rooney play his first ever football match in front of 60,000 people?
Did Tiger Woods play his first ever golf shot in front of 1000’s at Agusta?
Did Lenix Lewis step into the ring for the very first time at Wembley?
All these sports people started off out of the media and were given time to grow and more importantly learn their trade
Most other sports have a graduate system in place where rookies can gradually build up to the professional ranks.
Was her first ride in the Epsom Derby?
Of course it was! Thanks.
Quick question folks – during the coverage yesterday, there was a brief interview with Darren Owen and his spotter. As i was grappling with my 2 yr old at the time, I didn’t catch the spotter’s name but his voice was v. familiar. Anyone know the name? Thanks.
The Package, Big Fella Thanks, State of Play, Irish Raptor.
Welcome Adam. If you don’t mind me asking, whereabouts in West Brom do you hail from? I’m also from those parts.
I’m sure you’re not alone VtC. The hooves thing has never really registered with me, but I completely agree with you on everything else.
No complaints from me on the commentary. Could do without any scrolling banners saying what’s out of the race though! Btw, i don’t get to watch as much racing as most on here, so Darren Owen seems to only crop up in my life once a year. I assume he is a course commentator?
April 5, 2010 at 10:10 in reply to: Show dying horses, BBC told, as Aintree faces legal action #287617Grand national day will be full of dirt bags with green hair and rings coming out of every orifice. Ever notice these ,demonstrations on tv, none of look like they have ever worked a day in their life
Way to help us win the argument pal!
Don’t get me wrong, I agree with the thrust of what you’re saying and am 100% against Animal Aid’s stance, but making generalisations and insults like that make us as bad as them. Being reasoned and shooting down their arguments with pure fact is the best way to win the opinions of the neutrals, not indulging in a slanging match.
By the way, I don’t get the wording of the poll question. Should we see horses dying on TV coverage? Well, sometimes it is unavoidable and the only way to stop it altogether is to not show any races. If you mean the camera should cut away from races/whatever specifically to focus on suffering horses, then of course not. But we shouldn’t be shy and pretend it doesn’t happen. The media have a duty to report on injuries and fatalities as they occur, and by and large, the Beeb and C4 do this.
April 4, 2010 at 18:36 in reply to: Show dying horses, BBC told, as Aintree faces legal action #287531As far as I remember, the Beeb reported the deaths in their televised races, so it’s twaddle from Animal Aid. Plus, why single out Aintree for legal action (ha!) when it can happen at any course? It’s just emotive and opportunistic publicity seeking – and only to be expected of course.
