Is it ‘This Is A Low’ by Blur?
A corking race!
Bang on Mr Pilsen, as part of their Jobs for the Boys series. Gareth Hale did the paddock and Norman Pace did the commentary. Not sure I’ve ever seen a bloke look so scared!
Thanks Pompete, let’s go back to racing. I think you either know this or you don’t, but I’m sure someone on here will remember…
On 21 November 1998, who provided the BBC’s commentary on the 1.40 from Aintree?
4. Desert Orchid

No takers. Was thinking of Trevor Hockey and Stan Bowles. Open floor.
OK, I’ll move away from racing.
Name two British football internationals whose surname is another sport. I’m allowing a touch of spelling licence with one of them.
Sorry, love GN questions. I think those jocks have all fallen at the first three times.
Spot on VtC, he’d been stood down following a concussion
(I originally thought he’d been down to ride Belmont King who was withdrawn after the Saturday shenanigans. Then I remembered I’d got his autobiography, and on checking that, it proved me totally wrong!)
Sorry VtC. Bit of goalpoaching there…
On a similar theme, AP McCoy has ridden in every Grand National since 1995 bar one. Which one did he miss and why? (I should add that while I am fairly sure about the second part, I am finding it difficult to find documentary evidence and am going on my memory!)
I think VtC is probably right with Johnson and Thornton, and I reckon Jeff King has the most rides overall without winning.
No idea. But will try Shawnigan.
That is a wonderful selection of videos on Youtube. I think the person responsible put a lot of them up a couple of years ago, but they were taken down soon after. Here’s hoping they stay up this time.
Some great memories there from the likes of Galway Blaze, Ra Nova and Little Bay.
Best shut up now, lest my fondness for nostalgia lead to accusations of being boring.

One that sticks in the memory is Tom Malone (I think) on Quick at Cheltenham circa 2003. The classic case of being ‘given too much rope’, and he made the most of it!
Didn’t think I’d ever say this, ut I’ll be quite happy if the National goes to Channel 4 now. At least they give a flying one about jump racing. The Beeb can’t even be arsed to show the one trial over the National course? If McCoy somehow does win SPOTY, he should tell them where to stick it.
I wouldn’t trust the outcome of anything that depends on the whim of a Great British public that voted Ryan Giggs into this award last year.
