    Well done Wit.

Mr P hit the post getting part A right. But with part A and part B (‘Sailing By’ – the introduction to the Shipping Forecast on Radio 4.) it’s over to you 8)

to move it on a bit more:

OD = omne in die = "once a day"

bid = bis in die = "twice a day"

tds = ter die sumendus = "three times a day"

QDS = Quater in Dies = "four times a day"

you’ll see these used by doctors to describe dosages on prescriptions and medical records, and it seems to matter whether its upper-case or lower:

there is typically one more in the series, hence to restate the original question:

    [what?] = [what?] = "as needed" ?

remembering that one of the answers offered above got 2/3rds of the way there.

Got the Latin Wit, hence my NPO –

    nil per ossa

    , but can’t fathom your 2/3 clue

    OPD –

    octo per diem

    maybe?

please forgive the vulgar latin if the case inflection is wrong

Don’t know my ablative from my accusative :)

    hi drone,

the 2/3 just meant that in NPO you have two of the three letters in the answer.

    forget both "O" and "per".

Ah, got it after much unnecessary fiddling about with night/

    nocte

    as the N

    as needed =

    pro re nata

= prn, or PRN dunno which

Perhaps O Level (or was it A Level?) Latin and Greek should still be compulsory for those wishing to enter Medical School? :)

hmmm, it being october i reckon the last word is "Arc".

pretty sure the first word isn’t Alleged, so lets say the 3yo filly prior to Zarkava – Akiyda beating Ardross and Awaasif in 1982.
