gamble, if you are really interested, there is a Ladbrokes just on Cambridge Heath Road (near to the health hazard that is the Salmon and Ball PH), then, both on the right hand side walking towards the city, a Tote (near the weird yoga place with the orange door) and a Corals (just past the building site and Natwest)…

Sir Galahad ran ok in fifth (some market interest and went off at 6/1) without setting the world alight.

Having been settled in rear, he moved up well to chase the leaders but was going nowhere in the last two furlongs (apart from backwards).

It’s possible that the combination of inexperience, soft ground and 10 furlongs were too much for him and he remains of interest for now, with a review after his next run!

(also, i managed to get 5 of 6 horses placed on monday @ 5/1, 9/2, 33/1, 16/1 and 4/1 – Sir Galahad let me down for about £600 so he owes me!!!)

eventually – had a couple of quid on it for old times sake, and 50p on the exacta!

the horse is a dog and might improve with experience but has thus far proved horribly inconsistent…

also, Quantica keeps being backed off the boards everytime it runs – or possibly both times it has run – even when clearly not fit as last week. someone somewhere seems certain this is very well in at the moment, so i’m still interested if it manages to turn up fit on soft ground…

the horse is due to run tomorrow in the 3:25 at Redcar.

the race is a weakish 3yo handicap over 10 furlongs, and Sir Galahad runs off a mark of 55.

i’d be very hopeful of a good run and anything approaching the 7/1 RP tissue would appear a very fair price…

Springfield Gilda finished third of eight (14/1) beaten a long way (admittedly by two quite decent performers) over 2 miles on soft ground at Towcester on Boxing Day.

Since then she has had a couple of entries but has never been declared to run, and the trail has gone cold in recent weeks.

Providing she is still in training, she remains one to watch when reappearing although may need a run to get fit again now.<br>

I’ve only quickly scanned the previous postings on this thread as my chicken is nearly cooked (!?!) so forgive me if this has already been said but…

Why don’t they just incorporate a couple of regional races into existing sand meetings, either in place of or in addition to normal races?

Surely this would avoid much of the ribbing and tiny crowds, whilst still catering for the moderate and sub-moderate horses that Regional Racing aims to support.

    Just a thought…

slightly bizarrely, following Quantica’s heavily gambled-on second on its first start since i mentioned it, RED MOOR was backed strongly for a low-key handicap at Newmarket (once again none of my money as the horse had been off for far too long) in which it finished well beaten.

no doubt coincidence, but slightly disconcerting none-the-less… are we being watched? the truth is out there (and the truth is probably no)!

just a quick update on the other two, Andy’s Elective has not been entered in anything for a while and seems unlikely to reappear shortly, while Simple Ideals has run a couple of times, performing slightly better than before but not really sparkling (as much as a veteran low-grade staying handicapper could be expected to anyway).

    no, not today deany…

i am pretty much convinced the horse is about 8-10lbs better on ground softer than good.

to be honest, given the number of times it has been pulled out recently, i thought it a probable non-runner!

still interesting if the ground comes up soft but i fear either that isn’t going to happen or if it does the horse has been ear-marked as one with a ‘job’ to do and will start at a silly price!

"tenayestelign" ian – i reckon you’re really, really wrong on this one!

maybe some people who own racehorses do so for reasons other than to provide nags for semi-illiterate uk-based betting shop punters to bet on.

we are absolutely awful as a nation when it comes to foreign languages, primarily due to the fact that we are lazy and arrogant on this issue and because, fortunately, almost every thom, dieter and enrico we happen to encounter tends to speak at least a spattering of understandable english (and often a lot more).

if someone is prepared to spend lots of money owning a thoroughbred racehorse, i think they are perfectly entitled to call it a name of their own choice, within reason, in a language of their own choice.

i always loved that occasionally incredibly-fast-finishing "Egg" – great name!

i quite like the less ‘popular’ courses just for the sake of quirkiness, but…

NEWMARKET (by all accounts soulless and, as is often said, needs a proper racecourse to be built)

BRIGHTON (nope, not for me, too many big-field 7 furlong apprentice handicaps and a ridiculous course layout)

BATH (lovely setting but funny course with strange results – well i can’t get winners there – and permanently fast going)

    NOTTINGHAM (harmless, featureless, totally missable)

LINGFIELD POLYTRACK (‘lovely’ surface which virtually all horses act on and which seems to give dodgy stayers magical extra stamina – the reason i lost interest in all-weather racing, and i hope wolverhampton doesn’t go the same way!)

    GD,

i had a few quid (literally a few quid, as opposed to the euphemistic few quid which alludes to a decent touch) on the tote this afternoon, and the horse ran really nicely. he seems to be still learning and may yet prove a decent staying type. (hard to imagine that he was sent off at odds-on in a 5 furlong maiden only a few weeks ago!)

i am still slightly smarting after the Hamilton debacle, but i’m getting there and it’s nice that he has developed into the kind of performer i’d hoped he might.

the softer ground seems to suit him well and i would say that he is probably going to prove more competitive on it than he will on fast ground. i wonder whether connections might look to a listed staying event in France some time this autumn?

put in a shocker next time out, trailing home last in a decent enough race but showing absolutely nothing.

it is possible she has had enough (for now? ever?) but also might be to do with something affecting the yard which had been pretty quiet just before and since.

i would still be quite interested in her come the autumn and some really soft ground so she isn’t completely discarded just yet!
