According to her Trainer’s twitter feed, Tarakona is very much alive.
She suffered a fractured pelvis at Yarmouth, but she’s back home and they are hopeful that she will recover. Finger crossed!

The problem is that the punishment (such as it is) doesn’t seem to fit the crime. The Turf Club, having faffed around for a week has tried to brush the whole thing under the carpet by seeming to do something, but actually ending up doing nothing.
Davy Russell is a high profile, senior jockey. What kind of message does this send out to young conditionals, starting out in their careers, who probably look up to him and want to emulate him? That it’s fine to knock your horse around it it doesn’t do what you want?
A pretty gutless decision from the Turf Club and a bad day for Racing, which has once again managed to shoot itself in the foot.
The Turf Club are investigating according to the Racing Post.
The angle isn’t great but it certainly looks pretty damning, you can see the horse jerk her head when he appears to strike her.
Hopefully a hefty ban will follow, disgraceful behaviour.
Thank you for the tip MissCavie, I’ll do that.
As a matter of interest do you keep cavies?I did, several years ago when I still lived with my parents. Unfortunately I don’t have the space or time these days to devote to them, so have to content myself with a solitary hamster. Fascinating little creatures though – they make fabulous pets

Hope you get the series link sorted

Yes I do have the Tivo box, it might be part of the problem, but it wasn’t recognising anything, because as Grey Dolphin says they keep changing the titles of the shows and Tivo or what device you use can’t recognise it. I have set up all the Craven Meeting, so I hope it records, great it’s on again.
I have also contacted ITV and told them it’s a shabby service.I have a Tivo box and I originally set up the series link on ITV 4, and then under the manage series links option amended the ITV 4 link to record on all channels. It seems to work just fine – records both ITV1 and ITV4.
Absolutely brilliant meeting from start to finish. Enjoyed it much more than Cheltenham this year.
Looking back at the results, there were only 4 fallers in total on the Mildmay course (hurdles and fences) over the whole 3 days. Quite extraordinary, especially considering the quickish ground. Whether that’s down to pure luck or something else, Aintree deserve a huge amount of credit for all the work they’ve done in terms of horse welfare and safety.
I’ve just heard that his death will be investigated by the BHA, as he has experienced heart problems before in his career (e.g. after his GN win) and the yard was advised not to run him in big races as a result as it increases his heart rate over an acceptable limit. If this is true, then he should have been retired as soon as it came to light…
A story emanating from that down market bog roll the Daily Mail in its role as mouthpiece for the odious Animal Aid. The ‘warning’ apparently came from the fully qualified veterinary practitioner (not) Dean Stansall.
Also in that well known bastion of journalistic excellence, The Sun. Tells you all you need to know really.
Good to see the BHA coming out fighting on this one.
The bubble certainly hasn’t burst, that was probably Thistlecrack’s best chasing performance yet.
It’s not inconceivable that poor Many Clouds had improved following his wind op – he certainly looked the business at Aintree last time. Smad Place was beaten 17 lengths back in 3rd, with no indication that he didn’t run his race, then you’ve got Conti beaten a total of 44 lengths (roughly the same as Cue Card beat him at Haydock). I pay little attention to times, but I came across one report that described it as a “monstrous” performance on the clock.
I think it was the jumping that cost Thistlecrack yesterday. He was scruffy at his fences, no major alarming errors, but several small ones which all add up. The crucial error came at three out, which is normally the point in the race where that big engine kicks into gear and he motors away from them. He couldn’t do that yesterday, losing ground and momentum at a crucial time, as Smad and Clouds got away from him.
Ultimately he was only just outstayed on holding ground, by an exceptionally brave horse who literally ran his heart out. Phenomenal performance from both, and so very sad that we won’t see them renew that rivalry in March.
Desperate news.
I’m in tears here. He went out on his shield in the race of the season.
RIP Many Clouds
Far more bothered about the American Tom ride.
Yet again he just allowed it drop away without making any visible effort. If it is injured pull it up, but if not, this sort of ride which appears to becoming commonplace for Walsh should be totally unacceptable. Had the Navan Steward’s nailed the Battleford ride it might have been a different story but it appears Walsh has his own set of Rules.
My guess is Augusta Kate would have done well to have run the winner to three lengths. He has powered away from the last.
Said this to the girlfriend at the time. He seemed to struggle at the fence and was going backwards, after being close up in second. Losing ground and thought was going to pull him up. Strange that nothing has been said whatsoever.
Came up on twitter during the afternoon that American Tom was coughing after the race and apparently has a lung infection.
Doesn’t explain why a) Ruby didn’t pull him up after it was clear all wasn’t well and b) why he got straight back on the horse and cantered him back – American Tom could easily have sustained an injury in what looked like a pretty nasty fall.
Much improved effort yesterday, though the weather probably helped (at least at Sandown!).
The pub table in the paddock worked much better, as there were actually people and horses visible around them, so you really did get the sense that they were in the thick of the action. Still think they need to come inside when it’s raining though.
They seem to have done something to the graphics, as they were much easier to read this week. Chapman appears to have listened to the criticism, as he’d calmed down a lot this week. They need to make more use of Alice – love the interviews with the stable staff, but get her in there with the winning connections. Chapman’s (I think) unplanned interview with Charlie Longsdon was great.
Thought the Opening Show was a big improvement on its Channel 4 predecessor.
The best part – not a bookie’s rep in sight!
A quick update on the market movers is all that is needed, so hopefully that will remain the case.Good mix of features and chat about the day’s racing. Tom Scu was a great guest, always engaging and well spoken.
Loved VP’s piece at Andrew Balding’s yard. This is where her enthusiasm for the sport really shines through – looking forward to the rest of the series.
Very pleased to hear this news yesterday.
Dynaste has been a big favourite of mine over the years, but it was clearly time to call it a day. Glad connections have done the right thing by him and he’s come out the game in one piece.
Happy retirement old boy!

For a first attempt I thought it was a pretty decent effort. Sure there are plenty of wrinkles to iron out, but they’ve got a good run on ITV4 before the big test that is the festival, so hopefully they can get it right.
Things didn’t get off to the greatest of starts with the soggy camera – if you’re gong to film in the pouring rain at least make sure that the camera is under some kind of cover so it stays relatively dry!
I think they’d be better of losing the table and let the anchor and his side kicks roam free around the paddock. Rooted to the spot as they were, they may as well have been in the studio.
There was the usual issue of too many presenters and not enough horses, but that seems to the same no matter what the channel. The stable cam and the horse weighing were interesting ideas to help with that.
Chamberlin will be fine once he’s found his feet. Harvey surprised me, as I’ve always found him a little irritating on ATR, but his relentless cheerfulness worked well as a counterpoint to McCoy’s Victor Meldrew impression. Chapman is a problem – some of the stuff from the betting ring was just cringeworthy. He’s trying way too hard and just needs to calm down (could also use a couple of minders to intercept the drunken idiots who want to “be on telly”)
Was surprised they didn’t do more with the winning connections. Apart from the jockey walk back interviews we had about 30 seconds Rebecca Curtis joining them at the table and that was it. Virtually no shots from the winners enclosure – who wouldn’t want proud, smiling connections on the TV? The National Hunt fraternity in particular seem a pretty accommodating and interesting lot, the likes of Nicholls, Henderson, Tizzard etc generally give good interview so step away from the table and talk to them.
