I had a weird dream last night.
All I saw were the words Iknowhatimeanharry followed by the words dead.
I took that to mean that the aforementioned horse might win so backed it.
Didn’t understand what the second part meant though but now I do.
January 28, 2017 at 20:23 #1284319Very, very sad. I think we saw today what made him such a very, very good horse. His ability and willingness to give everything. He achieved plenty and will long be remembered. This was him at Aintree 2015 after winning the greatest steeplechase in the world.
January 28, 2017 at 20:27 #1284321Deeply saddened and upset by the loss of Many Clouds in this way … from now on every time I see the past winners of the National parading at Aintree I will think of him … he should have been there proudly parading with them for many years to come. RIP Many Clouds … a very special racehorse X
January 28, 2017 at 22:13 #1284360RIP Many clouds such a battler he gave everything. Very nearly collapsed after the grand national win if anybody remembers?
January 29, 2017 at 00:04 #1284404It’s hard to comprehend the outcome of this terrific race split down the middle with a black streak of sadness. Never seen anything quite like it. Thistlecrack is such a formidable, powerful horse that I always got the impression, to beat him, any other horse would have to run his heart out to triumph. Many Clouds did exactly that … but God, what a warrior he was.
God bless your soul Many Clouds!
January 29, 2017 at 08:32 #1284418Very sad indeed, what a tough and brave horse he was.
January 29, 2017 at 09:04 #1284421These things don’t normally get to me. I’m a Saturday watcher, rarely bet and am not as emotionally tied to the horses as many on here. And yet..
As usual, I recorded the racing to watch on Saturday night. During the afternoon, I inadvertently found out that Many Clouds had died but there was nothing about the circumstances.
As the race came on, I was braced and kept expecting it at one of the fences. It never came.
They came round the home turn. Oh, surely not as he’s challenging for the lead? Surely not at the last? Surely not on the flat???
And then he won, in the gamest possible way. That was unexpected. I only hoped it was back in the stables and off camera. Thankfully, the second part was right.
Thanks to MC for the memories and condolences to those who looked after him. And plaudits to the ITV team who handled the situation very well.
January 29, 2017 at 11:29 #1284454Three articles about Many Clouds in the Scottish based Sunday Mail, a sympathetically written article by Norman Silvester in the news section and two by Joe Reilly (aka Joe Punter) showing great respect for a fine steeplechaser. Reilly has a good feel for the sport, the horses in particular.
January 29, 2017 at 11:35 #1284456This is such sad news. We all feel it when we lose a racehorse, but I think in this particular circumstance where they’ve just won a race it’s even more upsetting. Thankfully, it doesn’t happen often, but the shock and disbelief to owners, friends and fans when it does happen makes it more sad.
RIP.
January 29, 2017 at 15:45 #1284538Can’t add to what’s already been said in this thread. My most sincere condolences to all involved with “Clouds”. He was a true warrior.
January 29, 2017 at 16:43 #1284562Was stood right next to the finish post yesterday, absolutely shocking. Incredibly brave horse, feelings go out to connections who must be absolutely devastated.
January 29, 2017 at 16:53 #1284571The best and worst of NH racing in such a short space of time , poor Many Clouds RIP
January 29, 2017 at 17:17 #1284581Many Clouds was one of the best but also one of the bravest.
Winning both the “Hennessy” and the Grand National in the same season is one of the greatest facts I’ve ever seen.
I’m not sure we will ever seen anything like that in the future.January 29, 2017 at 17:58 #1284584I’ve just heard that his death will be investigated by the BHA, as he has experienced heart problems before in his career (e.g. after his GN win) and the yard was advised not to run him in big races as a result as it increases his heart rate over an acceptable limit. If this is true, then he should have been retired as soon as it came to light…
January 29, 2017 at 18:49 #1284600Just to add my condolences to the connections of this courageous horse.

A story emanating from that down market bog roll the Daily Mail in its role as mouthpiece for the odious Animal Aid. The ‘warning’ apparently came from the fully qualified veterinary practitioner (not) Dean Stansall.

Also in that well known bastion of journalistic excellence, The Sun. Tells you all you need to know really.
Good to see the BHA coming out fighting on this one.
