I read the newspaper article in today’s daily mail newspaper and if it were to be true this will be excellent news. If Aidan O’Brien were to Hebridean in next years Triumph Hurdle it will set up a intriguing clash with Paul Nicholls. Lets hope we see a top quality 3 year old horse go to Ditcheat and challenge Aidan O’Brien. I am already looking forward to seeing O’Brien v Nicholls at Cheltenham.

PS – Any chance we see Honolulu go hurdling as well?

Another O’Brien horse that I would like to see perhaps as a potential Triumph horse is The Bogberry he looks like a hurdles type and I think someone like Noel Meade or Edward O’Grady could do a good job with him. Another 3 y.o. that I like to see hurdling is a horse called Hasty Retreat which is trained by Ed Dunlop and owned my Susan Roy. Its about time Paul and Susan Roy had a horse running over jumps in thier colours and Hasty Retreat could do alright in a Triumph Hurdle. Does anyone think we might see a classy St Leger type flat horse going hurdling next winter maybe another Celestial Halo or Ashkazar perhaps?

Is there any chance that we could see Aidan O’Brien train horses over jumps again? I would love to see him send just one or two horses at Cheltenham once again. Its just a great shame he turned his back on NH and we never got to see his full potential in the winter code. Perhaps if he was training over jumps this year it could have given Paul Nicholls somthing to think about. When will JP McManus reliase that Jonjo O’Neill is no Aidan O’Brien and JP should try and persude Aidan to train 1 or 2 jumps with his chequebook and Tony McCoy will do the streeing off course. Imagine what a McManus/O’Brien/McCoy partnership will do to NH racing no doubt the winners at Cheltenham and Aintree will roll in!

I know its only June and I may be jumping the gun a little bit but does anyone think that we might see any classy flat recruits going hurdling next season and running in the novice races at next years festival. After we have seen the likes of Celestial Halo and Elusive Dream go hurdling with some success. I would personally love to see Soapy Danger run at Cheltenham next march perhaps carrying the wylie colours. What classy flat horses would you like to see run other hurdles at the festival next march?

It is a great pity Anthony Bromley failed to spot him while he was trained in France as a youngster. Its a sort of horse I like to see go hurdling under the Paul Nicholls/Clive Smith banner. I am sure he will make a good staying hurdler running in the world hurdle. I can only dream for now,

Whilst on this subject. Does anyone know what Voy Por Ustedes means when translated into english assuming that it is a french name anyway as a lot of French jumps imports have french names while others are named in english such as Mater Minded.

One of the things that has struck me over the last 2 years is that we are starting to see some classy flat recruits being trained by Paul Nichiolls to great success. The likes of Celestial Halo and Elusive Dream were both bought privately and both have been succesess at ditcheat. Will that trend continue next season. I would like to see the likes of The Last Drop, Salford Mill, Ask, Soapy Danger and Geordieland plying thier trade at ditcheat next winter.

Now the the end of the jumps season is nearly upon us. It is really staggering about the achivements of Paul Nicholls this season to win more than £3million in prize money which is amazing for NH racing and also to train the first 3 home in jumps racings premier steeplechase. What I want to know is what is he doing right that other trainers are doing wrong? He must have a the right formula to become champion trainer by a country mile. He must be doing something right. I am really suprised that some sections of the racing press dont give him the credit. If Aidan O’Brien trained the first 3 home in this years Derby everyone would hail him a genius. But I have heard of no journalist hail Paul Nicholls in the same breathe as Aidan O’Brien even though he won more prize money than him in the UK.

Not even if JP McManus purchased 2 or 3 of his horses and somehow persuaded him to send them hurdling? I can see him doing a better job than Jonjo O’Neill can.

I made this point earliar on but I have not had any feedback on is so I will make it again. It would be interesting to see Mark Johnston train maybe consider sending one of his middle distance horses or flat stayers over hurdles just like Micheal Bell is doing with Metorphoric or Micheal Stoute did with Kribensis. As long as he has the owners consent, I would love to see him have a runner at the Cheltenham Festival and he could book a northern based jump jockey to to the piloting (someone like Graham Lee, Dominic Elsworth or Tony Dobbin). Maybe he could train a horse like Soapy Danger or Linas Selection to run in next years Champion Hurdle.

    Any thoughts?

I would like to see Mark Johnston train a middle distance/flat stayer over hurdles. I think this would be insteresting to see him train a 3 year old 2 mile stayer over hurdles for the Triumph Hurdle the following year. If he has a slighty older middle distance listed/group 3 horse the why not train it for the Champion Hurlde perhaps. He could book a decent northern based jockey to do the steering (Graham Lee perhaps). Maybe JP McManus should buy a couple of his flat horse for him to train over hurdles like he does with James Fanshawe.

If Sizing Europe wins the Champion Hurdle in March then what are the chances of JP McManus writing out a cheque for £500k and buying him after all he has not had a decent 2 mile hurdler since the retirement of Istabraq. No doubt if he wins the March he will be the next champion hurlder to the compained to Istabraq just the we have every year.

Is Ashkal Way still owned by Godolphin in Amercia? I think he should be brought back to uk or Ireland to be sent novice hurdling. I saw him win a handicap at Beverley in 2005 and I thought he would make a Triumph Hurdle horse the following year this was before Godolphin got thier chequebooks. Lets hope someone like JP McManus snaps him up assuming he is still in training.

Nah, I personally think that Graham Wylie will surpass the 440,000 gunieas paid for Purple Moon last year and will snap up Yellowstone at the Newmarket sales. I think he will also purchase half a dozen former Sir Mark Prescott horses at the sales too.

The sales in October are my favorite time of the year as I like it when a lot of good flat horses are snapped up by jumping stables like Purple Moon did last year. I think Graham Wylie usually goes made with his chequebook. I wonder what flat horses going to the sales will end up going hurdling.

On another point, I read a feature in today’s daily express where they was a article about Jonjo O’Neill. It mentioned that Coolmore are planning to send one of their 3 year olds to be trained over hurdles by O’Neill just like they did with Mountain last year. Which 3-year old so you think Coolmore will send to Jackdaws Castle. My money is on Honolulu.

I wonder is the 2m listed race at Wetherby will mark Turbo Linn’s hurdling debut? Its interesting that betfair have her quoted for next year’s champion hurdle. Lets hope Graham Wylie makes an offer for Turbo Linn so we see her rightfully run over hurdles in preperation for next years Superme Novices Hurdle and then the Champion Hurdle in 2009. I think its sad that a horse that is unbeaten in bumpers can then have its back turned on the jumps game.
