Back to the drawing board with this horse then? ? ?
What do you guys think will be the next step.
Has come way down the classes recently, and going off at 1/4 yesterday and getting beaten by a 13/2 horse was ridiculous.
Seems to have gone from hero to zero fairly rapidly.
June 23, 2007 at 19:43 #2191After watching Gerodieland finishing a gallant 2nd on Thursdays Ascot Gold Cup to Yeats. I think Geordieland could make a good hurdler. Wouldnt it be funny if a Geordieland was owned by a geordie. I am talking about Graham Wylie buying him and maybe running him in the Champion Hurdle. After seeing his runnign style on Thursday – running at the back of the pack and making a charge late on is very reminicsant of most top horses in jump racing. So come on Wylie or McManus please purchase Geordieland and lets see him in the Champion Hurdle!
June 23, 2007 at 19:54 #66359Hello,
Welcome to the Forum.
Just to let you know, we are excellent spellers on ‘ere :)
Except when we are drinking. :)
It would be insane to let Geordieland go hurdling yet, if at all, there are plenty of good 1.4 to 2.5 races out there for such a talented animal.
Bear in mind, it has just finished a good second to the probable triple Gold Cup winner and Melbourne Cup winner.
So, don’t get excited and plasea pllels teh mnem of the HoRsnm properly!
regards,
doyley

June 23, 2007 at 20:18 #66362Agree, don’t think Geordieland will ever be sent over hurdles as he can pick up nice money for current owners in staying races. He is a very quirky animal and he showed this at nottingham when he was travelling like a dream and just emptied and fell back to 5th in a mteer of strides.
June 23, 2007 at 20:49 #66363I have a feeling that Geordieland’s propensity to travel strongly and sometimes find little is more physical than mental. Worth noting he bled in the Melbourne Cup. I think he’d be a risky purchase as a hurdler.
June 23, 2007 at 20:57 #66364Add me to the list of those who wouldn’t send him hurdling because he’s doing just fine in his current career. Also, it is anyone’s guess how he’d take to hurdles ; classy flat stayers often don’t make the transition.
The saying "if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it " springs to mind.
June 23, 2007 at 21:05 #66365Definitely not if I owned him but if someone wanted to give me half a million and try themselves, Yes!
June 24, 2007 at 19:19 #66366If he was sent hurdling he would surely need further than two miles thus the champion hurdle wouldn`t come in question,i have him down as a bridal horse and not many of them win at Cheltenham,i`m first and foremost a national hunt freak and i can honestly say i have no desire to see him jumping hurdles, theirs plenty for this horse on the flat,if he was mine i would be travelling abroad with him for some easier options!!
June 24, 2007 at 22:54 #66367For now, he seems to be doing pretty well where he is. I would say that he would probably make a good hurdler (although I’d be thinking more Ballymore or Brit Insurance for next year if he were to go over the obstacles), and I’d love to see more flat horses make the transition in codes, but really it wouldn’t make financial sense. I for one wouldn’t be up for removing a lot of money from his undercarriage just to stick him over some timber!
You’re possibly right but Royal Gate won as Ascot Gold Cup (well sort of lol) then went and won a Champion Hurdle so its not impossible for a stayer on the flat to triumph over two miles over hurdles.
I personally would love to see Geordieland go hurdling, I get the feeling he’s one of those horses who will always find one too good on the flat.

Good grief I understand every word straight off !
June 25, 2007 at 08:51 #66370Geordieland looks a Harchibald Mk 2 in waiting. I wouldn’t bother.
October 9, 2007 at 15:04 #118702I’d prescribe 10 rows of timber and 2m4f myself.

October 9, 2007 at 16:21 #118722Wouldn’t like to see him go over hurdles, he looked a very tired and depressed horse in the unsaddling enclosure after the race yesterday. As someone said he could have internal problems. Might be best to have a fresh start next season and possibly keep him fresher and run him less.
October 9, 2007 at 16:29 #118725ooh , id like to see him have a break then the owners(Mountgrange , i believe) send him over some hurdles to see if that amazing cruising speed can help him get his head in front in that sphere which would give him his confidence back.
As this horse is indeed abit of a rogue at the business end i’d personally love to see the likes of Ruby or possibly even better still Timmy try do a cheeky number on him , which im sure they could.
so if your reading Mountgrange – c’mon lets see it !!
(or do i actually know less about racing than i think) hmmm
October 9, 2007 at 16:39 #118728Didn’t see the race yesterday [can someone tell me what happened?] the horse did bleed last season and Jamie Osborne keeps him fully turned out doesn’t he because of it. Maybe he’s a Milton Bradley horse [isn’t he the trainer who specialises in horses with this problem].
