1. Katchit
2. Katchit
3. Katchit…. OK I’ll stop, you get the pointOn a serious note…
1. Katchit – tough season in with the bigger boys but still never out of the first 3 in a hurdle race and all those other great stats about 5 yr old CH
2. Denman – brilliant underdog… relentless!
3. Tidal Bay – another brilliant horse, written off earlier in the season as a poor jumper but he’s seriously game and pretty quick too!
4. Inglis Drever – lovely horse, genuine and talented
5. voy por ustedes – what a great way to finish a season of 2nds…
There were some nearly’s…
Kauto Star – just a shade off this year but still great
Halcon Genelardais – great great runs in the welsh national and the gold cup
Souffleur – looked awesone early in the season and then just went a bit flat.. hopefully one for the futureHe didn’t – Katchit won because the jockey cheated with excessive use of the whip.quote]
interesting view… somewhat childish but interesting all the same
are all of those other ratings your own or RPR?
Katchit’s RPR was 169 which granted isn’t exceptional but it isn’t bad… not sure if you noticed but none of those other horses were racing in the CH and by the way didn’t Istabraq only run to 174 in his best year (which would make him average against your Denman comparison)?
Oh.. and yes I do have a pretty perfect existence, thanks!
what could it be other than literal?
he didn’t win the CH, has shown that he is probably good enough but wasn’t on the day
sorry, but I am more than mildly offended with the assertion that Katchit didn’t win on merit despite crossing the line first in front of very good horses and may I remind you the first 5 year old for 23 years and the first Triumph to Champion hurdle winner in 40 years – must be a rubbish year and an average horse!
What a load of nonsense – Flash… show me the money you won on SE in the CH and compare it to mine on Katchit – think that answers who the real Champion Hurdler is!
Anybody that doesn’t get hooked on horseracing by watching 2 thoroughbreds go neck and neck over the last 3 fences at Sandown or by watching a cavalry charge like the stewards cup isn’t going to get into it by watching some buffoon with whiskers shouting sexist clap trap or by some other imbecile calling everyone ‘Big Fella ho ho ho’ Surely ‘the masses’ should be credited with more intelligence.
Totally agree!
Time for the industry to startt thinking about helping popularise racing and the quality of it, not just an old public school tramp demonstrating ‘tic tac’!
I quite like Tommo though because he’s harmless (and witless)
Perhaps someone might enlighten the debate then – what specifically is the rule on whip use?
By how much did Choc ‘cheat’?
John Mc is a disgusting individual – his claims to be man of the people are completely contradicted by his sexist and pompous views
Regardless of what you think about the whip debate it is just plain rude to invite Choc onto the show and then call him a cheat after he’d just won the biggest race of his career – for that alone I would’ve fired him, it wasn’t good TV just cringeworthy and embarrassing for Choc (only the decency of Ted Walsh stepping in to deflect the debate from Choc saved him further embarrassment)
Mac is a failed bookmaker (bankrupt I believe) who has become a celebrity in the same way that TV allows the modern day freakshow to replace the old circus version
… on the whole though I don’t have a strong opinion about him!
Far be it from me to encourage anyone away from crabbing this race but I thought I’d share with you the conversation with Choc after the race
He felt that two things had changed dramatically between the first and third races – the rain that had come in before racing began had got into the ground to make it testing and in his opinion genuine soft ground… also the wind had picked up to the extent that it had become a factor
It can’t have been a slow race because K was ‘flat to the boards’ for the entire second circuit (and he isn’t a slow horse)
I guess all that is left is for him to come back and run well again next year… remember that Katchit’s time in the Triumph only two seconds off the record for the race on worse ground compared to Detroit City’s
I could go on but I don’t care that much – WE WON!!!
From a wholly selfish perspective – I was having to miss today to work but having been yesterday (did I mention that we won the Champion Hurdle yesterday
)… I am going tomorrow and FridayI won’t miss a single race AND what racing as well… 10 races tomorrow and I’ll get to see Choc get wins 3,4 and 5 in Group Captain, MWDS and Voy Por… hooray!!!!
When I get home I’ll turn off the fans in the garden!
to those interested in my connection to Katchit – I’m part of the syndicate that you saw screaming and jumping around yesterday
Apparently there is nothing wrong with SE… but the going was properly soft according to the jockey’s yesterday hence why they were going so slowly and I think the race just ran the finish out of most
I can type again this morning as I could barely see last night when posting
Katchit’s fine and almost certain to take a few months off… we’re elated and watching the race back he won in exactly the way you’d have expected him to, just not letting others past. The RPR suggests it wasn’t a poor renewal.
Osana and SE may come back next year but there is every reason to expect Katchit to come back stronger and fitter again next year as a 6 yo
I’ve posted on this subject before but today it seems real – Choc worked hard on Katchit but not excessively in our opinion – new whips are softer than the old type and we trust Choc to look after Katchit – disappointed with the decision to ban him!
BTW for those who are interested – he’s 15 hands (pr thereabouts)… but please be sensitive with this info cos Katchit doesn’t know ( he thinks he’s the biggest in town!)
I’ll post tomorrow when I know more about Katchit – he’s never been so tired as he was today – but I guess that’s waht you’d expect – thanks for your support…. we LOVE HIM!!!!
Sorry Gaz – you’re right – I did warn you I was drunk!
I’ve already made my point in other threads but I want to say thanks t Katchit supporters, we’re delighted with him (as yu’d imagine) he’s fab – but will rest until next year… CMON Katchit (I cried when we won today!)
