I’d be a bit surprised if Timeform rate Katchit better than Sizing Europe in the next Chasers And Hurdlers. Katchit deserves credit for winning th Champion though.
Clivex, what do you mean "that far out" it was only 2 out and he looked to be running away. Nothing in his previous runs suggested he would not find plenty when asked.
Ginge

In fact quite the opposite. When given a slap after the last in the Greatwood he found plenty quickly putting three lengths or so between himself and the placed horses.
Horses do stop at the festival because its a tough track, fast gallop – not all horses get up the hill but there’s stopping and stopping isn’t there? Sizing Europe went out like a light, from full tank to seemingy empty one in a few strides. It was obvious something wasn’t right.
March 20, 2008 at 04:21 #152736I’d like to know the source that confirmed SE would have won had he not injured his back.
I’ve been waiting to meet these type of people for years

2 out is far enough out at Cheltenham. You must have been there? The run in is huge and chellenging
March 20, 2008 at 10:51 #152785There is no concrete evidence to suggest that Sizing Europe would have gone onto win the race had he not been puuled up.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think he would have won.
Katchit was a worthy winner.

If that was aimed at me – yes, guilty m’lud. However, quite what Sublimity has do with Sizing Europe’s demise is beyond even me.
Incidentally, I had a pound each way on Sublimity. Hardly rash like.

March 20, 2008 at 16:13 #152846I would have thought Katchit is the real Champion Hurdler considering he won. The fact is Sizing Europe got injured Katchit didn’t maybe Sizing Europe would have won but it’s one of those things we’ll never know.
March 20, 2008 at 16:41 #152849What a load of nonsense – Flash… show me the money you won on SE in the CH and compare it to mine on Katchit – think that answers who the real Champion Hurdler is!

My point wasn’t a litteral one. Either you don’t understand that or ……….. no scrub the "or".
March 20, 2008 at 16:58 #152853what could it be other than literal?
he didn’t win the CH, has shown that he is probably good enough but wasn’t on the day
sorry, but I am more than mildly offended with the assertion that Katchit didn’t win on merit despite crossing the line first in front of very good horses and may I remind you the first 5 year old for 23 years and the first Triumph to Champion hurdle winner in 40 years – must be a rubbish year and an average horse!
March 20, 2008 at 17:03 #152857sorry, but I am more than mildly offended with the assertion that Katchit didn’t win on merit
He didn’t – Katchit won because the jockey cheated with excessive use of the whip.
However, that isn’t to say Sizing Europe is the true Champion Hurdle winner, as that is not the case in any sense.
March 20, 2008 at 17:06 #152858I was going to point that out David but din’t want to rub it in

Absolutely nuts IMO but I am not complaining as I backed Binocular the other day at huge odds.
I intended backing Sizing Europe as well but he drifted from 14/1 to 20/1 with one firm that started the alarm bells rining.
I’m just wonder who they think they are going to be taking on over fences. Sure he could win the Arkle but what then? Take on Denman Kauto Star or Master Minded…….be as well trying to win the Derby with him

Nothing crazier than folks as they say.

Correct on both counts.
If you are "offended" by someones opinion on horse racing you must be extremely sensitive. There are way more important things to get "offended" about. Maybe you just have a perfect existance, I dunno??
Back to Katchit – he’ a tough little horse but he won an awful renewal of the CH. I have him running to 163. Now contrast Katchit’s 163 with Master Minded 182, Denman 179, Inglis Drever 171 and you see just what a weak division the 2m hurdling one is at the moment.
March 20, 2008 at 17:28 #152867are all of those other ratings your own or RPR?
Katchit’s RPR was 169 which granted isn’t exceptional but it isn’t bad… not sure if you noticed but none of those other horses were racing in the CH and by the way didn’t Istabraq only run to 174 in his best year (which would make him average against your Denman comparison)?
Oh.. and yes I do have a pretty perfect existence, thanks!

interesting view… somewhat childish but interesting all the same
March 20, 2008 at 17:34 #152873Well done!
Chuck a few rough estimations in, totally discount a million other factors, add to that a losing punt on Sizzing Europe and WHOLLOP!! …..
A poor race! - AuthorPosts
