"Naive? Yes, when someone reneges on contracts with you, maybe on a house deal or whatever, you’ll just put it down as naievity and move on, taking it on the chin and accepting it, after all, you wouldn’t want to be vindictive or spiteful."

I meant "naive" in signing anything in the first place. As to how I’d react, what makes you think you know? [deleted]

    Couple of queries :

1: Has anyone actually seen the "contract"? Was it produced in court and if so is there a published version anywhere in the public domain? I’d like to read it and see what it committed Fallon to.

2: What did Dunlop mean earlier in the week when he commented "He’s as committed to Native Khan as Mr Fallon is ever committed" (or words to that effect) Why didn’t he state at that point that there was a written contract? (if there was one)

3: Maybe AOB should have picked up the phone to ED (or vice versa)a week or so back and ascertained exactly what the position was regarding Fallon’s legitimate availability…or is that too simple!?

For what it’s worth, and from what I’ver read thus far, my opinion is that Fallon has been as naive as ever and the owners are being spiteful and vindictive. But I’d like to read the "contract" before I’d move from "opinion" to statement.

    A few quick suggestions

    1: The Druids Lodge Confederacy

    2: The Running Reain Derby

    http://www.777togo.com/Bets-and-Frauds.html

3: Hermit’s Derby (more a sad story than a rogue…but interesting in terms of the money involved)

4: You might be able to find a copy of a book called "Neck or Nothing". It’s about the life and times of Robert Sevier, owner of Sceptre.

Thanks for that summary Colin…I’d agree with your analysis. I’m sure there a win in the horse – just hope I can get the right race and a decent price!

I backed Desert Sea, e-w. Looked well drawn and ran a respectable enough race in last year’s Chester Cup.

I knew my fate after about half a furlomg – I feet the horse was too far back, and it seemed to run in fits and starts. When brought to make a challenge it was coming from a hopeless position, and then got (very) slightly squeezed, though by then it had no chance of even making 1,2,3,4.

Just wondering if anyone else who backed it had a view? To say that I was disappointed is putting it mildly!

Thanks for that, appreciated. Like I said in my original post, I’ve been into racing for over 40 years but had no real idea of the ins and outs of Flapping. Just goes to show that it’s never to late to learn!

    Thanks again, J

Ok, If UK Flapping is essentially "Unlicensed racing" with horses rather than ponies where do you get to hear about the events? I’m just wondering if it’s a "close community" thing in the Uk,or if it’s openly advertised.

The only thing I miss is the post-Race Analysis. However there’s an upside to this in that I am now able to resist the temptation to try to find the winner of the Class 5 Handicap for No Hopers at Lord-knows-what-track, and can retain my focus on the better class races where I know the horses and the form withoit having to read it up.

I think Manny will win, provided he concentrates fully on the fight. It’s a far tougher fight for him than ODLH or Hatton, and I won’t be rushing to take the odds currently on offer.

I think Cotto has had too many hard fights of late. I’m not convinced that Margarito needed "hardened hands" to beat him, rather he just absorbed all Cotto could throw and kept coming back and eventually wore him down. Cotto wasn’t great against Clottey in his last fight, and I have the feeling that his peak days are just slipping away.

As always it’s all about styles – and IMO Cotto’s style is just made for Manny – he’ll be outspeeded and outpunched. I think he’s just that bit too slow to catch Pacman enough times to make a difference, though he certainly can hit hard enough to do damage if he connects.

Roach is very good at picking the right opponents for his fighters, and in this instance I feel he’s judged it right. Mind you, if I read any mention of Manny being involved in "politics" or "movies" in the build up I’d be worried – he needs 101% focus on this fight. Betting wise…I think I’ll just watch.

    Just my opinion.

Panic over….Lads confirm that "the system expects to see a date, so we stuck that one in". Now I just have to land the bet….!

I see that their "London Mayor 2012" book is flagged as closing Dec 31, 2009….so I’m concluding that the dates on this and the "Next Labour Leader" markets are probably shown for no particular reason….odd that "Next Labour Leader" os flagged "Dec 30 2009" and "2012 Mayor" a day later.

Still, I’d like a confirmation from Ladbrokes (have asked, am waiting!) that the bet is open-ended, as I don’t want to hedge it and later find I have a liability with no funds coming in from Lads to cover the hedge!

Do you remember an option for "no change" or "Gordon Brown" in the list of options

No, the market was/is purely on naming a successor. Two things can happen I guess….

1: Brown stands down/is kicked out and a successor chosen and annointed. For this option it would be reasonable to have an end-date for the market, but voiding it on Dec 30, 09 is a bit rich as he is rated odds-on to lead the party into the next election, which is also odds-on to be in 2010.. I’m not saying he won’t be gone pre-Dec 09, but the point is that the odds on him being in charge come a 2010 election suggest that a "By Dec 09" Successor Market is meaningless.

2: Brown discovers the secret of eternal life, becomes the voters’ favourite and wins every election till ther world ends. In which case a closing date for the market would be handy so I can recover my stake!

I’d suggest a "By Sep 1 2010" closing date might make more sense.

Frankie Dettori is on Spacious so he won’t be on Dar Ri Me.

Yes, just saw that. Had been wondering if he might have been lined up for Rainbow View but clearly not!
