    Pompete,
I knocked out the winner cos of its weight in February which left me with Erics Charms  and Arbor Supreme

I went against my weight rule on Black Appalachi and had a small saver on that but totaly struck off Dont Push It weeks ago.

If that makes me a mug punter then so be it and I’m happy for those folk who won a tenner on the AP bet. Thats the mugs bet usually but fair play to them, it wasnt on this occasion. They should have won enough money for a good night out not to cover a fish supper.

AP wouldnt give the horse a 10/1 chance cos he didnt fancy breaking his National duck in his Telegraph column on the Morning of the race.

Lots more rules of thumb on this years. The only woman on Character Building shorterned cos of once a year punters.

Why was Joe Livley shorterned right up? Lots of Uncle Joe’s and granddad Joe’s thats why. Its pathetic. Leave em in at the price they were backed at, its not improving there chances just the bookies liability.

If Joe wins at 80’s its made a few ladies weekend but the bookies cant have that. To say they lost ten million on the favourite winning is bollox, Only the favourite cos of mccoy riding it with one of your rules of thumb.

I dont understand completley how the overround works
but i know its something on the liability of losses against the odds and bets taken. Should run around 110% to give a small profit under any circumstances I guess like the Zero on a roullette wheel.

Is that the gist of it?

I agree, horses shortening by half there last odds all down the field and no way reflecting there odds, wagers and chances. It was an unmitigated disaster and the top four should be ashamed of themselves for there cowardice.

Once a year punters wont be back after seeing a horse jump boldly over 8ft ditches for 4 and a half miles like Black Appalachi did and be rewarded with a quarter or fifth of 14/1

I walked into Ladbrokes an hour before the off and it was like a normal Saturday with nobody waiting to to bet, despite this I was pounced on to fill in a quickslip bet by the National assistant. I refused but the fella says it will help us if you used the quickslip. I looked at the counter and back at him and answered perhaps it might help you further if I go down the road to Hills.

All part of the plan to stop you thinking and reducing the risk to themselves if everybody and anybody had picked the winner. I honestly think that the media are not exactly in the pay of the bookies but the BHA encourage cross the field promotion of horses with little chance to win to spread the betting evenly and build up favourites with little chance.

As you say Fontwell form impressive and it was double franked. The 4th and second in that race since won before Cheltenham. Colin Tizzard said to anyone who would listen he’s the best bumper horse he’s owned and if it was trained by Mullin’s would have gone into the race as favourite.

Had it with Notus de La Tour in a double who was a long way second to Sanctuire. Gutted so straight back on to PP and bet it on its own before the off. Only a couple of quid stake but its one of the most enjoyable winners I’ve had seeing it cruising off the turn.

Impressed with your Alberta’s Run tip as well well done though stupidly went for another and i was kicking myself on that one!

There all headline horses again apart from Dulcote and Deep Purple!??

Dont we ever learn how to beat the bookmaker? Start at the bottom of the card and work up. I had Cue Card in the bumper @ 40’s but theres a little matter of jumping eight fences at speed he has to negotiate.

All the other recomendations could have been repeated
by a four year old listening to the introduction of each days 2010 coverage by channel four and what we had to look forward to see running.

I’m leaving Ante Post alone and cant wait till 2011 as my hotels already booked!

And all this is without taking into account how many people were in ‘The Centaur’ (forgive the spelling). Can you imagine paying to get into any racecourse then watching it all in a big room on a big screen? And imagine what would happen if they all wanted to be in the stands?

Your spelling is immaculate, come on, you spent all day in there as well! The experience in the Centaur is unbelievable, a great mix of well behaved (though inebriated) enthusiastic punters and supporters who raise the roof when the tapes go up after a 30 second build up of tenable tension while the horses are circling at the start. This occurs not only before the championship races either. You really should try it.

So much more enjoyable than rushing around all over the place to see 10 seconds here and there peering over heads ten deep from where you want to be. I didnt go this year but previous two years I’ve had abuse from uppity pearl wearing folk saying I’ve pushed in to view Gold Cup runners leaving the parade ring. I’d only just left my associates at the rail after I’ve just returned from placing a bet which by the way keeps the industry going? I really could do without that and you dont get that in the Centaur.

I see the Supreme Novices parade then thats me, all day in the big bar.

I agree, he’s been run every weekend and not enjoying the same success it did last season. I read a piece from Pond House that if the horse box arrives and he’s not loaded on it he kicks up a stink and sulks.

Still appears to have the same appetite at the off but is getting too easily headed down the back straight so maybe its time to give Lough Dergh a prolonged break.

To a certain extent I agree with the thread starter that Racing could improve its media profile with a gool old barney between stables or jockeys but racing isnt as tribalistic as football or boxing. The audience is entirley different to that of a football match where punters will shout there horse home along with a few thousand others but theres gonna be another 50,000 shouting for another 10.
Win or lose the crowds gonna be philosphical and appreciative compared with rivalries between two opponents.

Racings a tough sport with some tougher characters
in it but footballs a 90 minute game seperated by two benches around 15 other staff members. Who’s going to kick off? They are in effect protected by cotton wool and can say what they want and know theres not gonna be any violence. Trainers and owners are there 7-8 hours in a stable, grandstand or paddock 7 days a week and the chance to have a ruck is far more likely should the fighting talk get a bit juicy.

If theres gonna be rivalry I’d want real rivalry like Benitez and Ferguson and not like the WWF.

Alex Fergusons like a pussycat on the race track calmed down by osmosis from his surroundings and enjoyment of the sport.
Trainers and jockeys only seem to fall out with people on the periphery of the sport like the hacks or TV presenters and dont appear to fall out with other trainers because of the carmaderie. Its a somewhat insular sport in that respect I geuss.

Definitley going to have some of the current odds of Kyhber Kim. NTD’s stable still running well, he’s had a long time off and beaten most of the other rivals in trials and qualifiers earlier in the season. Back on Good to Soft I think KK will be plugging on again at the finish.

Forgotten player like Punjabi was last season.
