To answer the question, No, this was not the worst ever weekends National Hunt action.
Chepstow, 1884 should never have been that price – this was a grade 2 hurlde and the winner was a fantastc price. Even the second, Frascati Park had excellent bumper form.
I thought all of the Nicholls runners looked as though they needed there first run and I refer to an earlier thread that I statrted about not following previous theories.
Nicholls horses need the run evident by all of his runners this weekend. Even his winner at Wincanton had the best form and should have been fav looked as though needed the run regardless of winning.
There were some very good performance. Monets Garden – 12/1 what a price.
Noble Alan – Fell – well thats racing, certainly this horse has a future.
Thought the Ian Williams horse which won at Aintree is an improver.
SONOWYOUNO landed a monster JP gamble – 6/1 early (although ladbrokes only ever went 3/1) openned on course 9/2 backed into 9/4, won a shade better than the margin suggested. This horse has got a big future.
Today at Aintree, Cappa Beu – needs further, thought Door Boy won well.
ALL OF NIGEL TWISTON DAVIS’ need the run.
TOBY JUG – awesome – will hill trophy at the festival? National?
Golan Way 12/1 e.w second was a great price for a horse which loves soft ground and a track where runners did not make up much ground to win.
October 18, 2009 at 16:39 in reply to: Jumps Season Gathers Momentum – Kempton/Fontwell/Ireland #254088Ok, so jumping today comes from Kempton Park, Fontwell Park and Ireland.
Kempton
Previously when Hpward Johnston has brough horses down from the North to the M25 tracks, the result has not always been great for the stable. You may recall the runners he took to Ascot last year and Old Raglan Road to Sandown.
However, I do think one of his is worthy of a bet today. Red Moloney – forget his Aintree run, I think at the prices and weights today he is worth a bet. Does anyone agree?
bergo has been ounted of the boards – would you really want to be on at 4/5? Not for me.
October 18, 2009 at 13:57 in reply to: Jumps Season Gathers Momentum – Kempton/Fontwell/Ireland #254065I though yesterday’s racing at Cheltenham was good and from it we can take some pointers.
I think Benbane Head will go on and improve.
Just Amazing, would if have won if the others stayed up? Yes, I think it would have. I stated this yesterday and still maintain that this could be a really fast improving horse. He is still on the smallish size and has some filling out to do, but he has some engine. Just look out for this horse again as I think he may win more races and end up being a good novice this season. Anyone have any ideas about an ideal trip based on breeding?
Sleep Over in the bumper – agree with the previous comments. Lets see this horse when it’s given a little more time and maybe a flat track.
Fivaways – can’t wait to see this horse over hurdles, it think this could be a good novice……
Starluck – surely this is horse MUST have a flat track. Newcastle, Kempton – then put it away for Aintree? Thanks for the insight that the horse still needs to fill out – Arkle Horse for 2011?
Poquilin = just got home under a very good ride by Ruby, I don’t think this is a horse to follow this year. I think the number of races the horse can go after will be limited although did improve for the step up in trip, I don’t think it would want much further.
Cossack Dancer – getting down to a winning mark – look out for this horse maybe at the Paddy Power meeting. Jumped well yesterday.
Anything Else worth talking about?
October 17, 2009 at 14:49 in reply to: Jumps Season Gathers Momentum – Kempton/Fontwell/Ireland #253829I forgot to mention – let me know your thoughts to the Cheltenham races – do you agree with my selections?
well…….
hi guys,
Why is it interesting that savethisdanceforme is standout 10/1 with ladbrokes, the magic sign.

letsgetracing: what do you think of the services – are they good for racing? or do they encourage addicted gamblers?
the thread is stupid. It was initially about whether o niel was out of form.
he is not out of form. he is a very good trainer.
For those who think he is out of form, is Paul Nicholls?
officer de reserve – thrashed
predature – beaten
star de mahasion
elusive dream
etc etc etcfor jonjo – nor nor east ran up to form today. HE HAS NOT HAD MANY RUNNERS, but the number of stable stars are no different to recent years.
gdet off his back, and start seeing sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Letsget racings comments earlier about the stable stars being wachita, bjk, exotic, dont push it etc at this time last year are correct. but what has changed???????
exotic is still the number 1 chaser – you MUST ignore the Kempton run (much better going left handed and stronger gallop)
wachita – NEEDS 3Miles (interesting Ladbrokes didnt alter his price!!!)
BJK – overhyped, problem, tripless – one of those three reasons for falsafying position as a starJonjo has some very interesting horses to go to war with at this years cheltenham and aintree:
Butlers Cabin – national bound
Bearings Express – wait for better ground
De Soto – handicap at festical
Kahia Kaha -for cheltenham – novice
dont push it – ryannair?? not sure – but still is a good horse.
Crocodile Rockand im told there are some very nice bumper horses!!!!
just wait and see – but the stable are NOT out of form.
I dont believe Jonjo has the same amunition as P N. Jonjo surprisingly I know, has had the fewest runners c/f pipe, nicholls, king over the past 6 weeks.
apologies – left handed, my mistake.
but the issue here is surrounding the form of Jonjo’s stable. based on what I said earlier I don’t think the stable are out of form. Everyone loves to hate Jonjo – why? 3 winners at the cheltemham festival last year and winners at Aintree.
I read with interest the above posts, comments made by the racing commentators and the press about the form of the Jonjo O’Neil stable.
I am no expert at paddock picking or form selecting but I do like to think I can form a view based on what I say rather than what I hear.
Lets take Black Jack today. It is very obvious the horse does not have a ‘trip’ all it does is gallop, but very slowly. champion hurdle suggestions were crazy. The fact the horse dropped back from 3m to 2m4 today – 10 days after a hard race at Ascot meant it was a complete lay. If Mccoy felt the horse was going to win, he would have been on it – mark my words. BJK was racing against Afsoun 3rd in the Champ Hurdle last year (maybe a horse without a trip as well) Blazing Bailey and some fairly decent top performers. It was a very good race and based on form – it ran to a mark of what it is. I know it was pulled up, but it didn’t jump that well. If you were ever to see the horse in the paddock you will notice it is not very attractive to look at, no real substance. Its a horse where the hype has raised expectations.
Wachita Lineman. This horse is a 3miler. 2m4 at Ascot last time was too short, especially against ‘speed’ animals (HE and Af) I think its run today 2nd, staying on after hitting a flat spot was good. The horse will be seen to better effect at 3miles – although I dont think will beat Inglis Drever – who is my cheltenham NAP.
Jonjos other runners. At Exteter – they did ok – a winner. Good Company had a tough task against Osolot.
The bumper horses which have been running have needed the run. If you saw Travel Guide at Warwick – loads of scope, immature in the paddock. Another Bottle – 2nd against a good horse at uttoxeter. Exotic Dancer, never settled, needs a right handed track. (they didnt go much of a gallopin the king G in my opinion. Exotic needs a pace set.
Olay Olay – caught a leicester – it was a step up in trip, did it stay?
basic fact won.
If you look at the last 2 weeks, the horse JJ has run have been big odds and yes a few of them featen, however he has not had many runners, and I will be happy to back them when a find one which has a FORM chance not when its based on trainer/jackey/owner names. i.e leaving the horses making debuts in novice hurdles, bumpers etc because you DON’T KNOW how good they are.yellowstone will not be bought by an owner whose intentions are for the horse to be trained by Jonjo. As Jonjo trains for Derrick Smith and JP McManus – the horse would not have appeared at newmarket sales.
Honolulu – not a hurdles type.
Look out for a Magnier horse coming over to Jonjos from David Wachman.
I am not allows to tsay who – until it races. It could go for the Triumph.
i am after the article in the post on mon/tues last week – of you can help
