Hi all

Had a few days away due to new Mrs Hat prefers me to spend time with her on her kids hols.
Back to the fray of staking – think i followed whats been said.
What i have seen so far is purely VDW recently – correct me if i am wrong pls.

So i m going to guess at Formaths plan for today
We have an aim of £55 based on the £1 stake start.
We will be betting £10 & our bank is now reduced to £145

I don’t think we are playing on the staircase just yet & wonder how it would have fitted in as per my old posts.
We’d be looking at a heavier debit in my opinion to try to recover & only 3 steps left to do it

Just to confuse the issue what will happen when we have a winner – (or if)
According to George (i think) VDW then had a cunning (complicated) plan to add a new formula – (eek) to reduce stakes as our aim & stakes are moving farther away gradually.
We started off trying to get a 6/4 shot & are now up to 9/2 to profit.
Or are we just staving off the days as was said when it can’t work unless we have a high strike rate.

As to your comment about Timeform selections Billion
I had my fingers burnt many times in my younger days following their tips so reluctant to chance them again

Going back to the VDW i think i can see where Billion & myself are getting confused
& possibly many others over the years

This is my main point from reading through the posts – interpretation of how things are presented.

In Georges case – top man for trying to explain it.
I think you were only trying to show VDW & not how to incorporate the staircase into it.
You say the point is to win a point per bet (which i think everyone gets) but then its gets lost straightaway when you say that in theory have lost 10 points after 4 losing bets.
Stakes do not in my opinion equate to points as it is dependant on the price on which is available. Unless they were all even money shots. Your stakes might be .5pt, .25pt etc depending on the price.
So we can’t go forward on that angle until resolved.

The strategy of selection, odds & staking i beleieve are intertwined & was glad to see you using an example of 5/1 or higher as i think this allows a certain amount of leeway.
The selections though do have to have a reasonable strike rate.

Sort of what i heard before as George says.
At those strike rates i wouldn’t be worried about using any staking system

Let me have a go at seeing if i got the Billion thingy.
We are aiming for a target per race or point maybe – example £10
We use a staircase 4×1, then 4×2, then 4×3 if all else fails

Assumption is start with a few losers to get ball unrolling
Use 5/1 & 2/1 as test prices alternatively
Bet 1 – £2 at 5/1 – lost
Bet 2 – now we need to win a tenner plus lost £2 (Bet 1 stake)
So £6 at 2/1 to win the £12 – lost
Bet 3 – need to win £10 plus £8 (2 losing stakes)
So £3.50 at 5/1 – lost
Or
Are we looking to win an additional £10 every race ? It has to be or we don’t have a staircase Thinking out loud here
Bet 4 – need a £10 plus 3 losing stakes (£11.50)
So £11 at 2/1 – lost

So start again
Bet 1 – to win £10 – £2 at 5/1 – lost
Bet 2 – to win £22 – £11 at 2/1 – lost
Bet 3 – to win £43 – £9 at 5/1 – lost
Bet 4 – to win £62 – £31 at 2/1 – lost

Bet 5 – 2nd rung on staircase – how to use it ?
To win £103 + a second tenner = £113
Or use £20 to back the next 4 selections until in profit

So unless i know where we are trying to go will leave it hanging there
